This place is awesome! I got great deal on a dark brown cool looking Italian sofa, cool stainless steel coffee table (heard it was starred in a movie!), and a cool dining set which was featured in another TV show. Totally unique and high style. The price couldn’t be lower. The sales guy Karim was really helpful and the furniture was delivered on time. All the staff I encounter at Domicile was very courteous and professional. I give it five stars!
UNBELIEVABLE! (IN A GOOD WAY) – Unbelievable (in a good way). That's the only word I can think of--which is a big deal, because I'm a writer--to describe Domicile. My wife and I have shopped at Domicile for over 10 years now, starting when we first moved to Chicago from San Francisco. We had a store just around the corner from us in Lakeview (on Broadway, now closed), and now we live in the 'burbs, near both the Evanston (closing soon) and Lincolnwood stores.
Larry, the owner, puts so much heart into every aspect of Domicile: the quality of the furniture, the showroom, the service, and the unbelievable (there's that word again) prices. We used to shop at Crate & Barrel and Room & Board, but now we always go to Domicile first.
Two days ago we bought 6-7 items at the Evanston store, to take advantage of the great end-of-business prices on floor models (things were getting snapped up fast!). After coming home, we realized the sofa and two of the chairs we bought weren't quite right for the room we wanted to put them in. But the delivery was scheduled for the next day. I called Larry and told him we were having second thoughts. Without hesitating he said, "No problem. You can get a refund or store credit." We were thrilled, especially because the receipt/invoice make clear that all sales of floor models are final, etc., etc. Unbelievable service like that makes us confident about shopping at Domicile--we know we'll find what we need, and any issues we have will be taken care of in the best possible way.
Of course, service doesn't matter if the product is low-quality. We've loved every piece we've gotten from Domicile, from the $80 end table to the $2500 sectional that has lasted over a decade with minimal wear and tear (despite our kids' best efforts!). The Lincolnwood showroom is spectatcular, just like the service, selection and prices.
Look, I came up with another word for Domicile: spectacular!
Unbelievable/spectacular selection + quality + service + prices = Domicile!
Love my new Italian sectional from Domicile! – Got my white Italian leather sectional delivered yesterday. My living room looks fabulous now! Cannot wait to invite my friends over for the house warming party! Thank you Domicile! Thank you Nadia --- she was very knowledgeable on furniture and interior design, and extremely patient while I couldn't decide which sofa to choose from for the whole afternoon (that happens when you got too much choices, isn't it?)
Great shopping experience! The store was very impressive --- it is even prettier than their photos on Google, filled with beautiful furniture. My first expression as I walked in was WOW. Seriously, I’ve never seen a furniture store as nice as this one before. The owner must’ve put a lot of effort. Fast delivery --- my sofa was delivered in two days, can you believe that? I never shop cloth or furniture on line, one reason is you lose the fun part of shopping; the other reason is waiting for the item to be shipped from who knows where it is (totally painful). So I always shop at local stores, and I feel good by doing this --- think about it, the local stores pay the taxes which support our own community, so I’m actually supporting our local community, and if more people doing this, I’m sure we will be the first out of recession! --- Pardon my long lecture, a professor’s old habit. Back to Domicile’s Furniture, about the quality and price, I did my research before I went to their store, literally had a book of sofas slips from other stores to compare with, the result: I got the best deal! To use a simple example --- it is like only paid $300 for a LV handbag in Nordstrom. How good feeling is that! Although it is kind of hidden behind Toughy, the store is very close to I-94’s Toughy exit, and it was not hard to find with a little help from Google Map.
Interior Designer's Choice of Furniture Store – I am an interior designer and their furniture is almost in all of my projects, and I recommend this store to many of my clients. --- Why? I love their large selections, wide range, reasonable price, good quality, and excellent customer service. Not long ago I had a client who was moving in town from out of state, I looked at several furniture stores for a nice Italian Leather sectional and I found the ideal Gamma sofa on their showroom floor. The price was unbelievable low compare to the other stores. It was a short notice and they did the delivery the same night. I was so grateful of what they did, because the very next day the historical snow storm shut down the entire city, and my client wouldn't have anything to sit for a couple of days. So these are real nice people work there. AND their store is very pleasant to walk through --- I mean it is such a beautiful and unique furniture store!
Worst Customer Service – We purchased a very expensive sectional in November of 2010. While the shopping experience was pleasant, the customer service afterward has been horrible.
The sectional was missing clamps. We were assured that the clamps would be ordered and the couch would be fixed by January 2011. To no avail, we are still waiting.
Since February 1st, we have been calling and asking for status and everytime we are assured that the issue is being handled, it is not... no clamps and no call backs. Out of pure frustration I escalated my complaints to the manager and again I was reaasured that this would be resolved, but again.. no clamps. I've made several calls in the past week and still have not received a response. It is now March.
What started out as a pleasant shopping experience has turned out to be a horrible one that will leave a lasting impression of this company. I highly doubt I will shop there again.
The best independently owned furniture store in Chicago area – I totally agree with mylittlek, don't listen to a few negative reviews --- I am very happy with my experience with Domicile, and so do my friends who purchased furniture there. I've been their customer for many years because they are doing business just like in the old days --- with trust, honesty, and integrity . As one of many good examples, I bought three cherry wood book cases from them, I was quite happy because the exact same bookcase in Room&Board was priced much higher. Later that day, I got a phone call from Larry, he said when he review the orders, he found that someone moved the price tags on the 60" bookcase and 75" bookcase, the 60" book case I bought should be $75 less and they refunded the difference back to my credit card! What an honest guy! Great service, large selections, high quality, beautiful furniture, great price... Domicile never disappoint me.
Don't listen to the negative reviews – I was somewhat put off by the negative reviews listed for this store, but they had exactly what I was looking for so I decided to take a chance. I am glad I did. The product, service, and attitude that I encountered at the store could not have been better. The salesperson, Chad, with whom I dealt, was attentive, patient, and honest. The pricing I received couldn't be beat by ANYONE. Delivery was on time and my house looks great.
Didn't listen to the reviews, paid the price – This place is bad news, please, please, please listen to the reviews and avoid. After two months i still didn't have my sofa, nor my refund, add on top of that being cussed out by the staff/owner, hung up on, and never returned calls. you are asking for added pain into your life if you shop here. avoid at all costs.
The owner, Larry, is NUTS. Don't buy anything from this store! – I got caught up in their going out of business sale. The owner, Larry, gave me the measurements for a dining room table (the one on display was a smaller size). Unfortunately, they delivered the smaller table. I called immediately and they said that they did have the larger size in back but could not locate the leaf. I called every day that week while they were closing the store to see if they found the leaf. Larry said he would let me know once they moved everything to their Lincolnwood store (he was sure that they would find it). I continued to call every few days for three weeks to have see if they found the new leaf and if they could deliver the correct table. Larry kept telling me that they would find it. Finally, he said that it I had purchased the wrong table and that he wasn't not going to be able to find the leaf. When I told him that I didn't want the table, he said that I would have to pay delivery charges (again) for them to come from their Licolnwood store and pick it up. I told him that's ridiculous when they delivered the wrong table! He hung up on me and I have never heard from him again. The guy is a total scam artist. Don't buy anything from this store!
