Great hotel BUT.. – It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at goo.gl/FPxYD They have some of the best hotel deals on the web!
Great location, nice staff, awful room – Self Parking is very close, easy to walk anywhere, staff was nice and helpful to us. Room was awful, furniture needs to be replaced its falling apart and the mirror was broken. Bed was beyond hard you could feel the springs and metal frame. Rips in chair and tops of tables were ruined, wall paper was peeling in bathroom and cabinet was in bad shape. Bathroom also smelled like sewer gas entire trip. Windows were very drafty I would hate to stay in winter you would freeze. Pillow also smelled like smoke. Hallway and elevator while clean were all in need of repairs. Elevator took forever and shook like crazy. Lobby was clean and charming although stong smelling candles make me think they are trying to hide bad smells. I get it this is a small old hotel but there is no excuse for the state of disrepair this hotel is in. This hotel should be a one star at most and then only for its location, and the price, for the condition its in, should be under $60 a night regardless of how close it is to the Mag Mile. Will not be staying again.
Little gem – All the previous reviewers regarding this charming little gem on the Mag Mile should stop in and visit. Although the lobby has not changed, the rooms themselves have vastly improved. I have stayed here several times througout the year and have seen the difference. The rooms are brighter and feel refreshed. The staff at the front desk is great. They are always friendly no matter what they have to deal with. Which brings me to state: when you book a room for less than $100. Are you really expecting the Ritz? I give kudos to the Tremont for their efforts to keep their little known gem polished. Love the Fridge Burgers at Ditka's too.!
Gold Coast hotel's exceptional location and affordable rates make up for its small, dated rooms. – In Short
Like other well-worn Gold Coast hotels, the Tremont's 120 guest rooms and suites sport the feel of a vintage apartment building. Most rooms are European-style, with only a single bed and tiny bathroom. Located just across Michigan Ave. from the Hancock Tower, the hotel provides an ideal base for tourists and conventioneers. Iron Mike's Grill (coach Ditka's classy joint) abuts the intimate lobby, which is decorated with historical prints of Chicago mixed with modern abstracts.
Worst hotel stay ever – How is this place rated 9.1? Please take the other reviews people have written to heart before considering staying there. There are so many hotels in that area that I see no reason whatsoever to recommend staying at the Tremont. The rooms are small, which I can deal with given that its an old hotel, but the rooms and hallways had poor paintjobs, the place smelled musty, the bed was horribly uncomfortable. While some of the front desk staff were nice one gentleman in praticular was incredibly snooty to not just us but other guests that were at the front desk when we were. The only pro I can say for this place is the location, but again, that can be said for numerous other hotels in the area and their rooms didn't look like a hotel in Baghdad. Stay away at all costs
9.0 or 0.9? – How this hotel is a 9.0 I will never know. The rooms are small and dated, the people at the front desk were rude, the shower in my room had tiles missing and looked disgusting. Doe that deserve a 9.0? The location was a plus and it was comfortable , but I would not reccomend it.
Tremont needs update – The Tremont in the top 10 hotels in Chicago? Maybe in 1960, but these days, its rooms are too tiny, and the decor is dated and tired. If you are looking for a so called luxury hotel, you will be severely disappointed here. Right now the main reasons to stay here are cheap rates, proximity to Michigan Ave., and, of course, Da Coach's restrnt. It only costs a little more to go first class-I'd pay the little more.
dirty – The lobby to the Tremont gives the illusion of a fancy and well kept hotel. The front desk staff was extremely professional and polite. This pleasant picture was shattered when I reached the 5th floor and my room. My first shock was at how extremely cramped it was. The ugly flowered drapery clashed with the plaid bedding. One of the curtains didn't open, and the other revealed a view of metal heating machinery. The chair had a stain on it, and the lighting was horrendous! It was so dim I could hardly see across the room. The television stopped working. The mini bar was completely empty, even though the hotel literature boasted about the selection. Finally, the bathroom creeped me out enough that I did not want to be barefoot if at all possible. Great location and friendly staff, but too scary and rundown of a room to feel comfortable.
Filthy! – Our room was filthy -- stained and dirty drapes and bedcovers. Walls were dirty, carpet was stained and worn and wallpaper was peeling. The staff was polite and efficient at check-in, but we couldn't get any toilet paper. We only had 1/3 roll toilet paper and 6 sheets of Kleenex when we arrived. Very loud, smelly and terrible view. The only thing going for this hotel is its location. I would never stay there again.
Dump. – this place was a dump. the room was tiny and dirty and unkept. when i came out of the elevator i was hit with the smell of cigarette smoke. when i arrived in the room it smelled of sewage. after making a big deal out of having a room with a view, they transfered my room to one with a view of the roof next door and the big metal heating system. the only staff member that wasn't rude to us was the valet parking attendant.
