Worst Spa Experience...NO PUBLISHED PRICE LIST – DO NOT GO TO THIS SPA. You will end up paying for services not rendered. Not to mention there is no description of services or a published price list.
I do not need fancy music or furniture to be impressed by a spa. I do not need a fancy store front either, what I need is a fair value and this spa failed at delivering that.
My husband sent me to this spa to get a facial and any additional service I requested for my birthday. Awesome gift, right? Wrong. With his credit card number on file, the "add-ons" kept coming. A $30 nail polish change, a $65 10 minute foot massage with baby oil, a $32 eye brow wax to "clean up the shape."
First the facial was fantastic. However, the pressure I felt from the minute I walked through the door was unsettling. My husband had mentioned that he thought I might want a body scrub. However, when I said I did not feel comfortable because I was pregnant...Milla was angry. She told me she had 30 years of experience and had never heard of such a thing. This is when when the experience went down the toilet. She left the room, wrote up my bill and I left the spa feeling completely taken advantage of. I gave a tip based on the facial that I requested which was scoffed at my Milla. When I called later to inquire further about the breakdown of the charges, I was told I was cheap.
Milla even walked in on me using the restroom and told me it was no big deal she didn't mind!!! Umm....
The entire experience has been unsettling. I still feel uncomfortable about it.
Known for its raves from Goldie Hawn and photographer Victor Skrebneski, this salon is surprisingly low-key. – The Scene
On the second and third floors above stylish Oak Street boutiques, this salon could easily be missed. Despite Gold Coast digs and big-name fans, Face & Facial isn't nearly as ornate or plush as other high-profile spas in town: This unpretentious atmosphere translates into friendly, sincere service by experienced professionals.
Hollywood stars favor this spa when in Chicago, and celebrity photographer Victor Skrebneski sends all his models to Face & Facial owner Mila Bravi before his shoots. It's no wonder that Bravi has won several beauty industry awards. Besides signature facial services, the salon offers other luxuries, like enzyme peels and paraffin treatments for head, torso and extremities, and the popular body facial: Skin is cleaned with an electric body buffer, massaged with exfoliating cream and rubbed with a light moisturizer.
Body treatments, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, manicure/pedicure, makeup application.
Best facial in Chicago! – The salon is definitely low-key and maybe not as "sleek" as other salons in the area, but honestly the facials and the service is so good, that it doesn't matter. The staff is wonderful and treats everyone like a good friend. I got the feeling that every facial is pretty custom; I had come in for the moisturizing facial, but my temperamental skin was sort of oily in spots that day, so we wound up doing a combination of treatments. Even two weeks after the facial, my skin looks great and feels amazingly clean.
Great facial, pushy service, high product prices – The facial I got was superb -- really took the redness and inflammation out of my problem skin. It was truly one of the best ones I have had. I also had my eyebrows waxed with great results. I even got some compliments on my brow shape afterwards.
On the downside, Mila was very pushy with her product line. I bought a product (not from Mila Bravi's personal line), and I am very pleased with the quality. However, the price was way too high -- I later found out that the same product as the one I bought for $98 retails for $54 on many online sites. The markup was nearly 100%!
I don't plan to go back regularly because of the poor customer service.
Very good experience – I got a facial with Mila, a pedicure and manicure. The pedi was complimentary for 1st time customers. The manicure was just okay, because she did it during part of the facial. But the facial was fantastic. My face looked and felt just wonderful! I bought the scrub and mask to use at home because I liked them so much.
Bad Experience – As you walk in this spa, you hear a radio station instead of soothing spa music. I had other services, but the worst by far was the massage. The masseuse used baby oil instead of massage oil, didnt understand what I meant when I asked her to work out the knots, pressed her elbow into my kidneys (twice), let a cellphone in the room ring 3 times, and ignored the cd player which was skipping. As icing on the cake, when I told the cashier that it was a terrible massage, she didnt offer an apology or discount. Instead, she overcharged me!
alucastaylor – I've had a facial or too (I myself am an esthetician) and I am obsessed with clear skin and clear pores. Facials here are thorough and not comfortable....b/c they are doing what they are supposed to be doing...cleaning and clearing up your skin. The estheticians here are amazing... and it's the first place I've ever been to where I can see true results (besides the usual exfoliation and steam and cream) after the first time I have been there. I won't go anywhere else... and neither should you.
Pressured to buy products/services – I called ahead to make an appointment and was told that first time customers got a free pedicure or manicure. I decided to get a pedi. I was given the pedi at the same time as the facial (which was strange). The pedi was not great and the person who did my pedi sliced the skin on the bottem of my foot.
The facial itself was great. However, I felt a lot of pressure to buy the over-priced products at the end of the facial. I was also told the wrong prices for the products, which I did not discover until I was checking out.
Also, they ended up charging me $60 for the pedi that I was told was complimentary for first time customers. I ended up paying $300 by the time I was out of there.
Bait & Switch/Bad Wax – I read such glowing reviews for Face & Facial that I HAD to try it out. I called ahead and had requested a full leg and Brazilian bikini wax. The woman on the phone said that since I had never been there before she would include a spa mani/pedi all for $135. When I arrived I was given a mani/pedi by Betty, but the bikini wax ended up being sloppy and in the end was NOT a real brazilian. The girl that did it was too quick to hustle me out of there. Made me feel awful. When I went to pay, the gentleman at the front desk tells me I owe $180. With tip that put me at over $200!!! That's AFTER I made my appt. thinking I would be charged $135. Not worth it for that price.
My face in your hands! – Mila started the whole european facial phenom - and she's the best! I wouldn't trust anyone else. Instead of a "one size fits all" approach, she customizes her facials for everyone. And don't we all have unique skin? Get over the decor; if that's what you are looking for, go somewhere else. When it comes to the best facial in town, this is it!
