Do not use the Bainbridge Company. I cannot say strongly enough how bad of an experience my wife and I have had with our home renovation. Our project is a $45,000 full kitchen remodel, laundry room remodel, and refinishing our hardwood floors. Not one single task has been completed on time and in high quality.
Our contract had a start date of 9/18 and completion date of 11/15. As of today 2/24/2014 we are still weeks, if not months, away from completion. In the past two months we have had Bainbridge employees at our house a combined four times and only after we have had to threaten to sue and call Action 9 news. In fact, dating back to October, we have had to continually complain multiple times each day to get workers out to our home.
Rick structures his contracts with a large up front payment (to order the cabinets and other materials which are very expensive as we were told) and then draws at the start of various tasks. All of these tasks were started very early in the process so we were 85% paid within a few weeks and 100% paid by early November despite the fact that the job was far from complete. Once we had paid the workers quit coming and the project that was already stalled fell further behind.
We were still washing dishes in our backyard in December. After our appliances were delivered we could not even use our gas cooktop for over a month as Bainbridge could not, or would not, get anyone to run the gas line. Finally I got tired of waiting and just had Piedmont come out and do it and paid for it out of pocket.
Throughout the whole process we have been lied to by Bainbridge and Rick. For instance we were told that our cabinets had been ordered in late September which was confirmed in early October, only to find out in November that they had not been actually ordered. These cabinets sat on our floor without being completely installed for a month after finally being delivered although we were told that they could be installed in a day. As of today, we are still missing two cabinets because Bainbridge did not order the correct ones and does not have the money to purchase. This is 3 months after they were delivered.
During the process multiple Bainbridge employees have quit and personally called us to apologize telling us that Bainbridge is broke and we should take every action possible to get out. Unfortunately that was not possible as we were fully paid $45,000, our life savings. We've even been forced to become collection agents for certain of his subs that he has used as they were not paid either and have called us constantly letting us know that they can place sub liens on our home and asking us to get on Rick to pay them.
This is a terribly run, highly unethical company and what they are doing is point blank illegal. If you read this and currently have a contract with Bainbridge Crew and are experiencing these same issues, or previously had a similar experience, I would encourage you to reply to this post.
The Bainbridge Crew went through a period of adjustment, and without the right people in place, unfortunately sometimes, the homeowners suffer as a result. We have less than perfect people to rely on to get the job done. We have been in the Charlotte area for too long, to let a few unhappy people ruin our good standing in the community. We will continue to do the best we can, for happy satisfied homeowners.
We had a major water leak in the upstairs bathroom and the water ruined the walls and ceilings in the dining room below. We contracted Bainbridge to repair the dining room (insulation, sheetrock, trim) and to redo the bathroom entirely.
• Problem comes from owner/management issues - smooth talkers, liars, everything sounds good until they get your check. Then it's like pulling teeth to get any workers out to your home.
• 3-4 week job took 11 weeks, only after having to basically threaten to call lawyers and Action 9.
• No heads-up on when workers would show up. Lots of missed work waiting for workers that never showed up.
• At least 4 coordinators started and quit over the 11 weeks. Very disjointed workflow and no one was ever on the same page.
• We cancelled the floor refinishing part of our contract due to how disappointing and enraging it was to deal with Bainbridge
• Wrote us a bounced check for $450; had to request cash
• Also, small clause in their customer contract says the subcontractors can come after you, the homeowner, if Bainbridge doesn't pay them even if you've paid Bainbridge in full. Request a release-of-lien.
• AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Bainbridge has failed to complete our project ... Bainbridge agreed to complete a basement finishing project by June 15, 2013, as of October 31 this project remains incomplete with no clear plan. I signed the contract for this job on March 21. This job officially commenced on May 1 with a completion date of June 15 for a total duration of 6.5 weeks. My project has been in process for 26 weeks with no clear end date in site. I complained and requested scheduling information and received no response for over 10 weeks. The response was then that it would take another 6 weeks to finish the project. Those 6 weeks have come and gone and we are no closer to completion. There have been no unusual or extraordinary causes to justify such a delay. These delays were all within the control of Bainbridge, some of our issues: 1) Project leadership on our project has gone through six different individuals, none of which have achieved any real progress 2) Materials continue to be ordered incorrectly, causing delay and other issues: tile ordered over a month late, and order arrived short, tile installed incompletely then reorder of tile waited over four weeks, once reordered original tile not available, so incomplete tile job is sitting with no action or plan. Doors ordered late and when finally received, were wrong size. Bathroom cabinets finally ordered many months late, and arrived, but were not measured properly so ended up not fitting and now we are awaiting a plan for reorder and installation. 3) Fundamental lack of professional project leadership. Electrical sub arrives without clear direction, constantly asking for clarification that he cannot get from Bainbridge. Carpenters unclear on project plan, unable to get direction from leadership. Sub for shower door installation arrives to complete work, problem is that he is out of sequence as tile not completed. No adherence to plan or timelines. No response to request for timelines for stretches of 10 weeks at a time. 4) Damage and disregard for instructions or property. We provided specific instruction on a rug that was carefully wrapped to protect it from dust and damage as work proceeded in the basement. This property was moved, unwrapped, and damaged. Bainbridge has agreed to pay to have the rug cleaned, but added to our headache in the process. Our fence gate was damaged while bring materials in and out. In disregard to our instructions, subs were allowed to block our driveway, and store materials in locations we did not want (i.e. front porch) 5) Poor customer service. We have made multiple requests of Bainbridge to provide documentation of the schedule for building inspections as well as documentation of successful completion of those inspections. We have requested this information six times over 5 weeks and we are yet to receive a response. We have made multiple requests for schedule information and get inaccurate, incomplete and late responses, including a delay of 10 weeks before getting any attention. 6) Numerous meetings on site to bring new people up to speed have only wasted our time and not resulted in any advancement of the project. I would add that I cannot yet comment on the quality of Bainbridge's work as there is nothing yet to comment on in half a year’s work because nothing is completed.
We would like to express our appreciation for our beautifully remodeled bathroom and for the way the entire project was handled from beginning to end. When we called, we were put in touch with Greg Handzlik. He came out to our house and drew up plans for a new, modern bathroom that we would never have thought could happen in the small space we had available. Greg is a very talented artist and has great insight. We now see the finished project that was Greg's vision, and it is wonderful! We are both absolutely delighted with the outcome and feel that the enjoyment we will get out of our new bathroom is more than worth the investment of money required. Also all of the sub-contractors were courteous, did their jobs well and in a timely fashion. We cannot find one flaw or one imperfection in our new bathroom. Again, we feel very grateful and want to thank everyone involved for a job well done
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with The Bainbridge Crew. They did an great job on our tile floors. Their contractors pay a lot of attention to detail and complete the work in a timely fashion. Very professional. I recommend them to everyone for home remodeling projects.
The Bainbridge Crew recently remodeled three of our bathrooms and our master closet. My wife and I are very pleased with the quality of our rennovations. We normally dread the home remodel process, but our experience with the Bainbridge Crew just made us want to do more. I would recommend them to anyone. They did a phenomenal job with everything from presenting us with ideas on creating new and more efficient spaces from wasted space, to getting the job done in a timely fashion. We will definitely use them again in the future
The Bainbridge Crew magically transformed our study into a wonderful master bedroom. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the result was even more spectacular than we had anticipated.
The difference between the old and new looks to our home is like night and day. All of our neighbors have given us compliments on the improved facade.
Do not give this company any money...they have had our money for four months, demolished the kitchen and will not order the cabinets and finish the job. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The owner has lied for weeks now that he sent a check to the cabinet mfr. I cannot believe he can continue to operate in this way. Four months and still no kitchen cabinets!
