Best Place in Broad Ripple – I have been going to the Red Room for about two years and it is one of the FEW places I will go in Broad Ripple. My fiance and I had our engagement party there and it was handled perfectly. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was so romantic and upscale....Our guests had a great time.
I've read the previous reviews and I'm surprised...our service has always been great, the music is ok-not the best but current and great for dancing, and the people there are always hot. My girlfriends and I love it!
It is ruined – It is amazing how someone can take the class right out of a place RR used to be a great place with great people. Now it is just a bunch of INDYS finest yuppies! Not to mention the owner has no class what-so-ever!
Apparently has gone down the tubes – The Red Room to me is a waste of a very nice space. I didn't get to see it when it first opened a few years ago and I bet it might have been very classy at first. I do like the physical atmosphere there. It has a candlelit and very warm-looking decor. That warm look is deceptive though; it was freezing cold inside the night I was there (late April 2007). They had ceiling fans going full blast in anticipation of the crowds, which did arrive after a little while (around 11 PM). What wrecked the experience more than anything for me was the horrible music selection. An iPod would have done a better job as a DJ (or maybe one *was* the DJ). For example, they played Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back". Not just as a joke or for spice, they played it seriously from start to finish. This was back-to-back with Avril Lavigne's teeny-bopper stuff, Usher stuff from like four years ago, etc. Top 40 and stuff that's not old enough to be old-school and cool to hear, just slightly old and stale. This was played at earsplitting volume. A bouncer I chatted with claimed that the music selection is basically the same no matter which DJ is there. It was so smoky that I, a non-smoker, had a slightly raspy smoker's voice for about 3 days afterwards, probably because I had to yell to talk while inhaling it. I didn't try any drinks or food, so I can't say anything about them, only mention that they appeared to have a shorter menu than they used to. I saw no mention of tapas or anything, but maybe they're still there. They don't seem to enforce their dress code much, so that whittles down the "classiness" a bit (i. e. a few raggedy jeans, t-shirts and dirty sneakers were around). I don't plan to go back unless I hear they've gotten a decent DJ, or I might go check out one of their salsa lesson weekday nights. The people in the pictures from that look nice.
Editorial Review by Christy Buena – American tapas, desserts and a fully stocked bar draw locals in for dancing, rehearsal dinners and networking events.
Upscale? Whatever! – This place was supposed to be upscale. Yeah right! The music was extremely loud that you had to yell just to get the person next to you to hear. The service was aweful. My friends and I sat down at a table, ordered a few drinks and the waitress brought my friend the wrong drink, in which he had to sit there for about 15 before she came back. After informing her that she brought the wrong drink she stated..."What do you want me to do about it." Well, for starters, maybe another drink would do. She stated then that we should take it up with the owner. After talking with the owner, he stated the server had told him that he didn't pay for his drink. Ok, right! Why would any server bring a drink and not obtain the money for the drink. Nontheless, the owner provided another drink but was very upset and immature about it. After my friend drank his drink we saw that the glass was actually broken. Although the bar might be trendy, the crowd was just your average 'run-of-the-mill' bar flies.
More of a club than a lounge, but good! – We got there around 9 on a Sat night, place was nearly empty. By 10 it was packed! Get there early if you want to sit. A great place to hang out and have a few drinks; there is also a huge dance floor in the center. If you're looking for a chill place to sit and converse with friends, try somewhere else (even sitting the furthest from the dj, we could barely hear each other). But if you're looking for a trendy bar/club with great drinks, definitely check it out!
AN IMPRESSIVE CROWD – This is exactly what Broad Ripple has needed for a long time - an upscale lounge with very good food that caters to the most amazing people in Indy. I have been there a handfull of times and without fail the atmosphere and crowd has been fantastic. (If you are looking for a star sighting this is the place to go - I have seen Pacers and Colts players, White House staff members, famous musicians after their performances, not to mention all of the notable local celebs). Most nights there is some form of live music (jazz, funk, latin). The place is a little hard to find - no sign, no neon, no velvet ropes - so just look for the red door and walk upstairs.
Best spot in Broad Ripple – The best place to hang out any evening. The owner's dedication to great bartenders and great food, her class shows through in all of the customers that frequent her bar.
Happenin' – Perfect for great food and drinks in a trendy atmosphere. We loved the live music which had us dancing and mingling with a cool crowd. Definitely a must-do-night-out in Broad Ripple!
GREAT FOOD & ATMOSPHERE – Finally something different in Indy. I just discovered the Red Room when I scheduled a dinner with friends for my wife's birthday. The food was amazing, the atmosphere and decor was funky and unique, and the service was attentive and knowledgable. We had the pork medallions, seared scallops, and filet mignon (beef tenderloin) rolled in spices. Dishes range in price from $7-11 and are smaller in size and encourage sharing. They have amazing martinis and a great selection of wines by the glass. As if the evening wasn't good enough - a number of the Colts players came in and sat next to us. In short the perfect birthday gathering.
