worst service ever , not friendly , food quality is pretty bad
Diarrhea equals Wasabi – My son and I went to Wasabi on February 2012, we ordered the mistake roll,volcano roll,spicy octopus, softshell blue crab roll, and softshell blue crab fried as an appetizer. We enjoyed our meal while we were that, but at around 3.am yesterday morning i took very ill, i began having severe diarrhea around every 30 minuites i was up out of my bed pooping(very loose stools).. It gets worse, then i felt like vomiting, but i couldn't instead continued with diarrhea. I missed work today because i couldn't stop using the restroom. At around 9am,, the nurse from my sons school called and said he was having diarrhea and needed to be picked up. I ended spending 25bucks on recovery supplies for myself and my son(i.e. pepto,chicken broth,mashed potatoes, power aids with electrolytes. I called wasabi first thing this morning and a woman answered the phone and assured me that they would refund me my money back..I was so sick that i had to be driven up to wasabi to try and get my money back $62.00 was my total bill. When I got to Wasabi, the manager told me she wasn't giving me my money back. Keep in mind i lost money from missing work, plus i had to spend money on recovery supplies, now this ladied had lied to me over the phone and had my mom waste her gas driving me up there because i was in no condition to drive....I WAS REALLY PISSED...WASABI SUCKS THEY GIVE YOU DIARRHEA AND WON'T REFUND YOU YOUR MONEY BACK ....STAY AWAY!!!! KEEP IN MIND ALL SUSHI THAT MY SON AND I ATE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FULLY COOKED, NOTHING RAW....SO THERE MUST HAVE BEEN SOME UNSANITARY PRACTICES TAKING PLACE...
Sushi + Much More! – This is my new favorite restaurant. I have not been big on Sushi ... but now am a convert!! The salad is awesome. The Mistake Roll & Sun Roll are the best ever!!! Highly recommend this place! My 13 year old daughter even loves the chicken teriaki dish.
Agree with previous reviewer.... – The hospitality shown by the proprietors of this restaurant is sorely lacking. Isn't sushi supposed to be a Japanese art form anyways? Why is a Taiwanese couple running Wasabi? I have always wondered why Wasabi received such glowing praise when it is not an authentic sushi restaurant. Perhaps because this is Indiana and people generally do not know better? I have had Robert Liu's Chinese cooking before and it is GOOD - I don't understand why go into a field of cuisine that is out of his league.
And the racial slurs recounted by the previous patron are unacceptable. I would guess that you are not the first one that it has happened to... only the first one to be able to understand it!
Decent, but unfriendly. – I spent a good portion of my life living in China because my Father worked for the government in the U.S. Embassy in Shanghai and Beijing. I'm very familiar with this type of Asian cuisine. To be fair and factual I will first say that the food is decent and fresh. However, the food aside, I ran into some very troubling problems. The young Itamae (sushi chef) was a bit inexperienced. The nigiri fell apart before I could dip in the soy. When I tried to make small talk I was ignored. Later on the proprietor came to the bar to chat with the young Itamae and I realized they spoke Taiwanese Mandarin. Despite the fact that they were making negative comments about the American guests I ignored it and once again tried to engage in some small talk... this time in their own mother tongue. Still I was ignored and by this time I felt uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disappointed. I'm deeply saddened that a place with such beautiful cuisine is run this way. I believe that the proprietor has lost the highest ideal that is the embodiment of all Japanese cuisine, okyaku-sama wa kami-sama desu (The guest is God). As for me, I don't like being treated like a dollar sign because, unfortunately for the proprietor, I was much more than he expected. I was appalled to over hear ignorant hatred slandering a particular nationality, especially the one that I am a proud part of. Unless the owner and his family have a drastic and miraculous enlightenment that all people on this Earth are equal , whether Taiwanese or American, I will find another place to satisfy my sushi craving.

One of a very few GREAT sushi places in Indy – Always fresh - and always extremely good.... very nice wine list as well. Busy on Saturdays; wait can be a while w/out a reservation.
Fabulous Sushi – I've said it before...will say it again...I really like Japanese food and I love, love, love sushi. But, I am a bit picky. I don't like restaurants that try to be too creative...and I prefer more traditional rolls. Am not a fan of "fusion" sushi places...
Wasabi on 82nd does a fab job! Their sushi is incredibly fresh and there is a large variety of choices. From the traditional rolls (their spicy tuna is divine) to a few "newbies" the owner/manager forced me to try. Overall, I loved everything.
Of special note: The Shrimp Tempura and Asparagus was divine...
The wait staff and the owner(s) were very attentive, but did not too much. Also, their prices were BEYOND reasonable! Most rolls were between $5 and $8 per roll and they had fab wine choices...
Too bad they aren't located in Chicago...I'd be here at least three times per week!
The best – Wasabi has the best sushi in town! They have the best selection of food and best tasting sushi anywhere in Indy. There is nothing on the menu that is bad and I would recommend it anyone!
Wasabi on 82nd: Customer Service Nightmare – Craving Japanese food, my boyfriend and I decided we'd try a new restaurant, one a friend had recommended--Wasabi on 82nd. We ordered the beef sukiyaki soup ($30).
The dish promised beef and vegetables marinated in sukiyaki sauce, but only a very small portion of the dish consisted of beef--the vast majority of the shallow pan consisted of soggy, overcooked seaweed and rubbery "bean noodles" with a helping of mushrooms. One unidentifiable, mossy object with an unappealing gray color floated on the surface above the beef. Skeptical, my guest and I both tasted the food and found it unsatisfactory, so we called the waitress and asked if we could send it back to order something else. We had barely eaten it, just a few bites.
Initially, the manager offered us a food credit worth 50% of the value of the food, but my guest and I decided we weren't interested in spending more money when what we'd ordered had turned out to be unsatisfactory. I had the waitress call the manager again and offered to pay the bill there so that we could go.
The manager, however, informed us that we would have to pay the full price for our meal--we couldn't apply the food credit to the item we'd already ordered, but would have to order something else. I politely told her that I had no problem paying our agreed price, but that I was not going to order another full-priced menu item and "eat" the cost of our original meal. The manager objected, saying that "that would be like giving you a discount." Highly perceptive.
At this point, the manager threatened to call the police if we didn't "pay our bill in full." This was a first for me. When I worked in a restaurant, if a customer complained, I was authorized to give them a discount if that would satisfy them and keep them coming back. Obviously, I'm never going back to Wasabi. Any restaurant owner who fails to satisfy service obligations and then threatens legal action against her dissatisfied customers doesn't deserve my business.
