The basil tofu dish, the taro root bubble tea and the Asian eggplant were very good, but I became deathly ill with food poisoning from their meatball soup....not to mention the consistency of the meatballs was extremely odd.DO NOT order this soup!!:-(

This is my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. Amazing selection for veggies. About parking: Evergreen has a parking agreement with the asian grocery next door - you can park in the spaces next to the building, BUT you MUST get a little piece of paper from the restaurant saying that you are a customer of Evergreen and put it in your front window. Ask for one when you go in to the restaurant, and they will give you one to keep in your car so that you will have it any time you visit.

A neighborhood favorite – This is some of the best Asian food in the Twin Cities. I dine in the restaurant or do take-out at least once every couple months. I am not a veggie but enjoy experimenting with their tofu dishes and enjoy the dishes with meat, too. Favorites include Ma Po Tofu, Eggplant with basil (spicy!), satay sauce beef, chicken in black bean sauce, pan-fried dumplings, sauteed green beans,Taiwanese Style Meat Sauce Noodles.

Veggies used in the dishes are crisp and fresh. My only negative comment is that sometimes the mushrooms used in the dishes appear to be canned rather than fresh.

The restaurant is located in the basement of a small city strip-mall on Nicollet Avenue. The decor is rather basic and stark. This is what many restaurants are like outside the US - you are paying for the food, not the interior decoration. Over the years, the owners have changed lighting and flooring to warm up the ambiance a bit.

My family and I often choose to go to Evergreen when we're in the mood for Asian cuisine. Better food at better prices than many of the trendier restaurants on "Eat Street". Give it a try - either dining in or as take out.

Great food – I had brought a friend here to do a school project on ethnic dining. When we got there the layout of the place is somewhat like a school cafeteria. The food was great, it had wonderful flavor. They had a WIDE variety of food for anybodies liking. Some reviews said they over charged their credit card. My bill was 16.38 and in my pending transactions they charged me 20.38. I talked to a lady who owns a restaurant who said some companies will charge 20% or more until the charge clears. So I watched my account and the next day it went through for 16.38, so I WAS NOT overcharged. I just wanted people to know before they thought this place was a rip off.

Great food, nice ambience. Tricky parking. – It's so often that service suffers at family run restaurants that are always busy, but definitely not the case this time.

The food has always been great, and service is excellent as well.

The parking situation in back s very tricky though. Evidently 2430 is the lot you CANNOT park in (that's the child care lot). You'll have to pay a $250 tow if you park there at any time (evidently). We were one of several victims wondering where our vehicles were after the meal... although after a few calls are in the process of getting in resolved out of court for a refund. We were there after hours and on a Saturday so no child care was going on.

IMPORTANT! If you're parking in the back, only the 7 (or so) diagonal spots with the sign in front for 2424 only are for Evergreen parking. Where the "2424" is painted on the ground is NOT.

Fresh/Delicious! – Good spot for takeout. The food is fantastic and inexpensive. The Eat Street location is a little...run down and has minimal off-street parking.

It's a TRAP!!! – Went to pick up some food from this restaurant for the first time. Parking is confusing - their very tiny lot was full so I parked in the lot right next to it (as close to the restaurant as possible - I think the lots were connected but it was dark and difficult to see), which was apparently for some school. Got my food - the guy at the counter took quite a while (went back and forth across the room) etc. and wasn't very friendly. By the time I returned to my car it was on a tow truck being pulled away! Yes, it's partly my fault but the entire thing was very shady. This was a weekend night so the school was definitely closed and their lot was empty. The towing company had a guy just waiting around in a car to call in the trucks. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the restaurant is in on it. I saw them pulling at least two more cars away while waiting for a ride. Thanks a lot evergreen! I'll NEVER return. $250!!! There was nothing special about the food, when I finally got a chance to eat it a couple of hours later. I don't really understand why people are raving about the place. I'll also mention that this happened during the winter and it was about 5 degrees out.

Tasty and cheap takeout – The atmosphere here = lame but the food is FANTASTIC. I really like the Beef with Tomato/Green Pepper and Steamed Buns.

This place is wonderful-take your friends and family! – I love Evergreen for the following reasons: The food is excellent. They will make almost anything "mock"-if you are a vegetarian and you haven't had Sesame mock chicken, you are in for a treat. It is also great for kids, and sharing. The service is very nice-the owner waits tables and will always listen to what you need. Besides the food, the TEA IS FREE! That's right-I love tea and can drink a lot of it, esp with Chinese food. So the fact that they give you as much tea as you want, and it's free is great. They could charge 2.00 or something, but they don't. The one thing that bothers me is the weird place it is located. I can take it being in a basement, but I worry about the alley it is on, and if you have to park in back and walk thru the strange strip mall to get in, it smells really bad. Like stale smoke and mold. So I always try and park in front. Also, if you have friends that drink alcohol, and want drinks with their meal, they won't get them here. I brought a friend and she was so upset she could not order wine with her meal that she wanted to leave. Dumb!! I don't care if I they don't serve it-Evergreen was a PERFECT choice for our dry new years eve last year. A funny thing that happened at Evergreen a few months ago. We took my brother there for his bday. He loves hot food, so he ordered this shimp dish with peppers. He started to eat it, and began to sweat. Pretty soon he was gulping water and fanning his face. I called the server over and asked her what kind of peppers those were, as they seemed very hot and my brother was used to hot food. She said, "Oh no!! You are not supposed to eat those peppers, they are for flavor and should be put to the side of the plate. They are the hottest peppers from Taiwan-we have to import them specially." Oops.

Great Veggie Option – This is a great place for wonderful selections of vegetarian dishes--often in other restaurants we have limited choices, the problem with ordering in Evergreen is that the choices are TOO many!

Highly recommend: tofu with basil, orange peel veggie chicken, vegetarian noodle soup, noodles with black bean sauce, stir fried noodles (Taiwanese style), peppery deep fried veggie chicken and veggie dumplings (steamed or pan fried).

I would not recommend the mapo tofu (a popular dish in Sichuan) as it is very salty and sweet. Having traveled in Sichuan and tried authentic mapo tofu there, I did not find Evergreen's version satisfying.
