Best Thai! – My husband and I love the food here! The restaurant atmosphere is not the greatest, but who cares when the food is so good? The menu is very extensive. The service is very prompt. YUM YUM!!
Awful service! – We ordered from them and after receiving our delivery order, we realized they COMPLETELY forgot the sauce and had brought us DRY Peanut Chix/ Broccoli-- no sauce whatsoever! We called to tell them and ask for the sauce to be brought to us- they insisted they included it and basically told us we were lying! I told them we did not and that we'd like them to bring it to us! Their response was that they were too busy and would give us credit for the next meal! I was upset that they refused to bring us what we ordered AND paid for and then had the nerve to think we'd want to order from them again! Needless to say, we will never go back and they never did bring us our sauce or refund the meal!
Bland – The food quality is fairly good but everytime I order something extra spicy, and when one orders a thai dish extra spicy one should expect a good kick, it comes back very bland. The flavor is nice, but almost like they reversed my request for that extra kick.
Southport cheap-eats destination satisfies with generous portions of Thai classics. – The Scene
This corner spot is bright and super-casual, with smiling service and a simple decor of cream walls, green carpeted floors and framed Thai prints. Budget-conscious couples and friends from the neighborhood chat quietly at tables; a small outdoor seating area beckons during the warmer months.
The extensive menu covers the bases with satays and pot stickers, tom kha and tom yum soups, and a few dozen noodle and rice dishes. Golden Crab is a deliciously crunchy, cream-cheesy starter. Among entrees, Once Upon a Thai pad thai jacks up the classic noodle dish with crystal noodles and shrimp, tofu and chicken--mild, but fab with a splash of hot sauce. Lime shrimp bathe in a mellow mixture of coconut milk, lemongrass and Thai ginger, while pepper steak gets its heat from jalapeno and green and red peppers. Cool off with sticky rice with mango or a fruit smoothie with tapioca pearls.
the best thai food in chicago – The food here is by far the best and most authentic thai food in Chicago and I have tried many. The best rated thai restaurant on Citysearch is 'Thai classic' but don't be taken in by the glowing reviews - I just had take out from there, thinking that we should try something different - and it was very bland. I have actually tried thai food in a number of countries and once upon a thai is one of the best I have tried.
