I used to recommend this pizza to tourists.... – Until they did completely sell out. This pizza used to overflow over the edges of the pan, now that's deepdish! When you took out a piece the cheese would spill out into the pan and one piece was enough to make you sick because you'd be so full. The sauce was chunky and full of zing. Now the crust is like stale old crackers that you can pick up and eat like some abomination from pizza hut and what scarce cheese there is is burnt to a crisp. Before you truly needed a knife and fork or else the greasy cheese (yum) would burn your hands. My parents have been going to Due's since they were in their 20's and me since I was 3. I go to college here now and the last time my mom visited I took her there for old times. She almost cried! They ruined a place where she had such fond memories and there is no way me or my family will be going back. Neither will we recommend tourists to go there.
If you want what Due's used to be, go to Lou Malnatti's and oder deep dish with extra cheese and extra sauce. It really is sad that greed wins out over keeping a Chicago institution alive. I wonder if Daley knows what happened.....
Changed the original recipe crust, run by a chain now – I grew up eating Due's and have gone only for the delicious, crispy buttery crust. In the past few years they changed the crust, now it tastes like crispy on the outside, Wonder bread on the inside with no rich flavor. I think the tomatoes and cheese are the same, but they sold out to some Boston company that changed the crust. I even wrote to the company and they denied changing the recipe. It is NOT the original Chicago style pizza, and I recommend tourists visit Gino's or Lou Malnatti's for an authentic Chicago style deep dish pizza. At least they didn't sell out.
Best Pizza on the Planet!! – My husband and I have been going to Due's since his college days. We even went there the day we became engaged to celebrate - very Chicago of us!
I needed to comment on the idiot who had only bad things to say because the pizza was too hot - gee stuff coming out of the oven is usually hot. Plus, part of the joy of this pizza is the chunky tomatoes and sauce!!! If you want watery sauce - get a frozen pizza from the grocery store.
Anyway, back to the compliments. Due's is always consistent and the taste has been the same for the 35 years we have been going there. The place always satisfies and the pizza is the best in the country. My mouth is watering just thinking about the great tastes that await when you go to Due's (or Uno's for that matter).
There just IS no better pizza anywhere!!!
Best pizza on the planet !!! – Well let me first start off by saying this is the best pizza on the planet...hands down!! I have been going here for years and needed the phone number only to stumble across the scholar who posted below me. First off who doesnt know that pizza is very hot when it comes out of the oven(Same guy who would have complained if it was a tad to cold) ?? and if not is your posting even credible ?? My 8 year old cousin cuts his pizza and lets it cool off before his first bite !! Maybe you would be more comfortable at the northside pizza oven grinder on north ave......and if the pizza is too hot there maybe you can jump across the street and pickup some sushi....maybe that will be cool enough for you !! Oh yeah about the law_suit.....maybe I can turn that into a real man of genius commercial and receive some form of payment myself....THIS PIZZA IS THE BEST IN THE CITY !!!!!
A little too hot... – First time to Chicago and I heard this was the place to go for an authentic pie... I'll give them credit - their pizza is good... but what ruined my experience was the temperature and the fact that they clumped tomato sauce on the dough instead of spreading it smooth... so after 45 minutes of waiting the pizza finally arrived right out of the oven... and after a few bites I finally bit into a clump of sauce at what had to of been 400 degrees. My entire mouth including my tongue is burnt. The rest of my stay here in Chicago will be spent eating soft, cold foods.... Thanks Due! Maybe next time tell your guests that the pizza may be a little hot?!? Didn't a lady take McDonalds to court for millions over hot coffee?? Maybe I should seek counsel?
Everytime I come to Chicago, we come to Pizzeria Uno (or Due) – It is really the best pizza in the world. The crust, the sauce, the cheese... everything is in perfect proportion. It is a bit difficult to get a place, but the wait is worth it. Can't be beat.
Excellent Deep Dish Pizza – Pizzaria Due or Uno are excellent places to have the traditional Chicago deep dish pizza experience! Bring your appetite a large pizza will feed 4 adults sufficiently! The place can get cramped and a long wait for a table but it is well worth it!
Best Pizza – We have been going to Due's for years now. The food is great as always. The wait is still long, but worth it. The staff is always friendly from the host to the waitstaff. The two brothers that work there are a good example of fast, friendly service. Can't wait to go back.
I'm A Believer! – Pizzaria Due was amazing! Our server was friendly and prompt with salads and beverages, he left a card with his name on it on the table which we thought was a nice touch! Be ready to order at the door, before you even get a table. Portions are enourmous- a medium pizza easily feeds 3 people. If you haven't done Chicago deep dish- you NEED to try Due!
The best Pizza on Earth – During the week you might wait an hour or more for a table and on a Friday and Saturday night, much longer. But, the wait is worth it! The Aroma from the Pizza pies cooking in the Kitchen, will keep you waiting. When the speeker outside calls your name, for a table... Prepare for nothing your mouth has tasted before. Your first bite of the slice your server cuts in the pan and serves you will be a sprirituil event. You will not think of Pizza in the same way again.
