The only remainder of the Polish honky-tonks in Wicker Park stands as a lone wolf of Polak pride in a sea of new wave bars. – In Short
Chicagoans looking for strong Polish vodlka, the native tongue and a relaxed atmosphere find this haven admist high-end bars that have consumed the old Polish Broadway. Still, that's not to say that the dark, cluttered basement-like space--complete with old wooden bar and well-stocked liquor cabinet--doesn't hold indie appeal. In fact, its old-school flavor makes it cool. So do the leering Polish men who dominate an ill-placed pool table and the sassy bartendress. A jukebox provides streams of early Madonna, Tom Jones and on occasion, Lil' Wally, the polka king who once called this bar his local.
