Corcoran's is not only pretty awesome because it's a super cas spot on what can sometimes feel like an uppity Wells Street, but on any given night, you'll probably run into a Second City comedian/enne.
Just a dependable bar in a primo location with a good crowd. Grab a spot on the Wells St patio for top-notch people-watching.
Had quite the issue with getting a drink removed from our tab that was not ours. When explained, the manager threatened to call the police if we did not pay for it. Mistakes happen, but you shouldn't make the customer pay for them.
If you like being treated like s***, this is the place for u – I was at Corcoran's one night with a bunch of my friends. Everything was going fine, seems like an alright bar. I took my glass to the bar for a refill, and the bartender filled it up, and then promptly handed my used glass to someone else. But here's the best part- I pointed out to her that it was my cup, and rather than correcting the mistake and getting the cup back, she cut me off! Yeah, I had been drinking...but come on, it was right in front of me! (I don't exactly make a habit of going around to bars and falsely accusing the staff of using my dirty dishes). So then, when I asked for the manager, she had me thrown out! Absolutely incredible! What a b****!!!
Was fun until they gave my used glass to someone else without washing it! – I went to Corcoran's on a Saturday night with a bunch of friends. The place was nice-ish, really just a normal bar. I was at the bar to get another beer when this really FAT bartender asks me what I would like. I order, and then watch her take my glass and fill it up, and then serve it to someone else. I pointed it out to her, and rather than correcting my mistake, she goes "what are you accusing me of?" I told her again. Again, instead of correcting her mistake, she cut me off! DISGUSTING! (and extra b**** points to the fat woman behind the bar)
AWFUL experience – I visited Corcoran's today for lunch, and be it safe to say I will never return again. When we arrived the place was not too busy (most of the tables were empty), but after we placed our drink orders, we did notice that there were only 2 waitresses. When our waitress did come back to take our food order, she did not write anything down. I do have experience waiting tables, and I know it is never good when the waitperson doesn't write down your order. So we requested an order of mozzerella sticks and a house salad for an app, and then we both ordered appetizers as our main courses (so we didn't order anything that should take an extraordinary amount of time). 45 minutes later, we still had no food, but nor had our waitress even come over to refill waters, refill our bloody mary's or reassure us about our food. Another 20 minutes later, after finally getting her attention, she returns to confess "I'm so sorry guys, I completely forgot about your order. I don't even know what you got. Do you want your check?" Again, I do have waitressing experience and I do know these things happen, however, not only did she forget about our food, she just completely forgot about us as customers. Nothing else was done to alleviate the situation on the restaurant's side. After, we went to O'Brien's down the street (yummy food, and they definitely do not forget their customers!), but while there, we saw a huge table of about 10 that we had seen go into Corcoran's after us, and we overheard them complaining about the same exact things we were. I will not be returning here due to their lack of respect and care for their customers.
UPDATE: A few days after this horrible experience, my boyfriend was checking his credit card account, and the waitress charged him way more than he had spent!!!!! We called the manager, and still have not heard back.....They should not have even charged us for the drinks in the first place, but charging us more is just the cherry on top...
GREAT Neighborhood Pub – Great place pre-movie at Pipers Alley, or pre-show at Second City.
Old Town neighborhood pub with a consistent crowd, above average bar food, friendly service, and plenty of seating.
Best burger in Chicago – Forget Top Notch, forget Portillos, if you want a quality burger and a decent place to meet friends for a burger and beer, go to Corcoran's. I say it is the best burger in Chicago and i am a fanatic when it comes to burgers! When was the last time you had anything but an average meal at Hackney's?
A pleasant Irish bar in Old Town, with sidewalk tables in front and a smallish beer garden in the back. – The Scene
No surprises here--just a pleasant Irish pub with tables and booths along one side of the narrow room, with a bar on the other side. A couple of TVs are usually tuned to sports. Deep, high-backed booths and colorful Tiffany lamps hanging from the ceiling add to the old-fashioned charm of the place. While the bar stools provide a comfortable perch, larger groups gather at the sturdy tables in back. Surrounded by high walls and brick buildings, the small patio is a tad claustrophobic, but pleasant on summer evenings.
As would be expected, there's nice selection of beer on tap (from Guinness to Goose Island). Mixed-drink specialties include pint-sized margaritas and a very smooth Manhattan (made with Knob Creek bourbon). Food ranges from the usual fried appetizers to Irish entrees.
"Pub grub"can't be beat – Fun bar with first-rate bartenders, personable servers and better than average "pub grub." Beers come out of the tap just right, drinks are good and strong. Nachos (not too Irish but,,..) are loaded with cheese and salsa. Shepherd's pie is tasty, chicken wings hotter than most places. Salads are reasonably priced and fresh. A good place to catch up with friends or meet some new ones.
upscale pub grub – I found this to be a typical pub, with a good beer selection and menu. The Cajun fingers were good, because I love Tobbasco. The service was not very attentive, but they did their job.
