Hidden Gem – I'm not sure if it's quite that hidden anymore, given the citysearch following. I went there based on reviews I read here and was blown away. I opted for the prix fixe menu w/ wine and could not believe the quality of the dishes at that price. Very highly recommended. The restaurant is contained in one room centered around a huge bar and is located behind Cafe Bernard. Don't go up more than a few stairs, the first time I went my date and I made it to the 3rd floor I think. Although the room is dark and simple decorated, the place has a wonderful atmosphere.

Oustanding – In absolute terms, as good as you could want. In terms of value and overall feel ten out of five. Fantastic, this place absolutely rocks. We just got back from an inpromptu dinner and have nothing but praise for this small and eclectic place.

charming gem – We were visiting from Wisconsin and shopping in the Armitage neighborhood, and while reading reviews for good dinner spots - realized we were very close to the Rooster. Don't be fooled by the back door entrance - no that's not a service entrance, yes that is the door. We got there early (around 5:30) on a Saturday. Our server was warm and friendly. The house Cote-du-Rhone was quite good and cheap. I had rabbit, my husband had the chicken crepes. The bread was quite good (my husband thinks it's the best indicator of a restaurant quality). I highly recommend the chocolate bread pudding! Our only complaint - the restaurant was incredibly dark.

Cozy, lovely spot for an intimate dinner – Definitely recommend mondays for a quiet, intimate dinner for two! It was quiet, the food was piping hot, and the service was extremely attentive. I'll definitely recommend this as a hidden Chicago treasure.

What a gem! – We have a 7 month old son and have been taking Saturday night as "date" night since he was born. I always look in Citysearch for new, interesting places. When I saw reviews for the Red Rooster, I thought it couldn't be as great and cheap as everyone says. I was wrong! We had a fabulous dinner. The waiter was attentive and nice, the food was excellent, the ambience was perfect and wine was great. We both commented that you would never know just what a gem it was until you walked inside. We were very surprised that we could have appetizers (don't miss the mussels!!), mains, dessert and wine for under $80 total. Definitely save room for dessert ... a chocoholics heaven!

What a find! – We decided to try the Red Rooster after reading all of the glowing reviews on Citysearch. I am so glad we did!

Red Rooster is a very small cafe and you'll miss it unless you're going out of your way to find it. There are maybe 15 tables, and the dining room is kept very dark to create ambiance. The service is personal and the food is great, even for those who don't care for french food.

We tried the prix-fixe menu, which includes soup or salad, entree, dessert & a bottle of wine for only $48 for two. Yes, you read right...$48 for 2, including wine!

We loved the root vegetable soup, chicken crepes, and marjoline cake. The salad was good, but a bit heavy on the dressing. I would highly recommend Red Rooster as a date spot!

A perfect evening! – Delicious food, excellent service and incredible value are one thing, but the romantic atmosphere of Red Rooster simply cannot be matched. My fiance and I were greeted and seated promptly, tended to appropriately but were left alone to revel in the moment. The quaint European country decor and soft lighting transform the diner into another world. My soft-shelled crab sautee was exquisite, her garlic potatoes were flavorful without being overpowering, the steamed vegetables crisp and fresh, and the soft background music heightened the ambiance. With the two of us at opposite ends of the country and not able to get together as often as we would like, our time together in Chicago was precious. Red Rooster not only made it memorable, but easily the most romantic dinner of my life!

Fabulous food, ambience, and service! – The food is impeccable, arguably the best French cuisine I have ever had. The calamari was delightful and aromatic with just the perfect amount of garlic and onions. It was tender and robust in flavor. The escargot are reminiscent of something straight from Paris. Drenched in a garlicky butter/olive oil, it was sheer heaven. We had the beef sirloin on a bed of field salad. The meat was so tender, it actually melted in your mouth. It was cooked medium rare to perfection. The wonderful balsamic vinegar added the perfect touch and flavor to the salad. We are going back to Chicago just for this place! Absolute heaven!
We sat outside along the street, and that was wonderful. But we did note that the inside parlor was truly lush and romantic.
Caution: Located down a side street from the main street there in Lincoln Park. Don't blink, or you'll miss it.

Wonderful experience – We sat at a table next to the window and watched the snow fall as we sipped on a sweet Merlot. The food was very good. I had the NY sirloin and it came with a very delicious sauce. A special of the day, stuffed rainbow trout, was simply fantastic. We were in a seafood mood and also had two appetizers. The steamed mussles were a plenty and not a single one was left. The same is true for the oysters in a hlaf shell, which were huge!
