Great Food! – I went in thought it was going to be decent food because it looks so small and quiet. but when i ordered the deviled shrimp and i tried it, wow was it great, and spicy too just how i like it. the chips were warm and the salsas were fresh, and i loved the rice water. the waiter was extremely friendly. i would for sure go back and bring all my friends. Great food.

delcious regional mexican food – went on a saturday night the week of valentines day not expecting to get a table, but the place was comfortably full and the service was excellent. friendly and helpful. food was delicious- we got the chorizo flautas appetizer, chiles rellenos and some kind of chicken for dinner, and plantains and ice cream for dessert. total bill was $33. SWEET. plus, it's BYOB which wins me over anyway. the restaurant was small so it would be uncomfortable for parties over 4-6, nearly impossible for ones larger.

Friendly B.Y.O.B. storefront in Uptown serves fresh, creative Mexican fare at cheap-eats prices. – In Short
With its sunny yellow walls, purple wainscoting and floral tablecloths, this two-room restaurant is a refreshing splash of color on the gritty Sheridan strip, with low prices that make it a popular spot for locals dining solo and on dates. The menu features regional Mexican dishes like caldo tlalpeno (simple, hearty chicken soup with avocado and lime wedges) and grilled chicken in tangy tomatillo and pumpkin-seed sauce, plus standards like tacos and tamales.

Best Mexican food in Chicago – I love Mexican food, and have tried many places searching for my favorite. A group of people recommended this place to me, and since then, I've brought probably twenty people there to dine with me (not all at once of course - the place is pretty tiny). Awesome food prepared hot and fast. You couldn't ask for better service from the waiters and waitresses. I can't say enough great things about it - you should go check it for yourself!

Fantastic Mexican, Great Value! – Rique's might look like a little homespun cafe from Mexico City, but the food and great value are worth it! Everything from the ceviche and guacamole appetizers to the pork and steak were to die for; being BYO makes Rique's even more of a value. Will definitely go back to try everything on the menu!

Very Disappointing – I understand that people in general think that mexican food is a plate full of spicy meat with a huge portion of rice and beans all run together. It's not. But it's also not Rique's.

While I think it's great that this "neuvo" type of mexican cuisine is starting to emerge, it should be prepared right. The fish shouldn't come with bones and scales. The sauce was some what flavorful.

Why couldn't the same zest that went into the guacamole go into the watery and bland rice pudding? The tamales had a good flavor, but were so dry, they crumbled when we cut into them. The list goes on If you do go, I recommend the guacamole and the chicken mole.

And don't expect to get out of there quickly. While the wait staff if very friendly, it's also difficult to bus your own tables.

I won't be back.
