This BBQ won't disappoint – On our way to visit a friend, saw the BBQ signs and had to stop in. The menu was simple but had all our BBQ needs. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich and rib tips, which were both excellent! The sauce was perfect... sweet, tangy and with a lil kick! They had great sweet potato fries too, and I don't even like sweet potatoes. Our waitress (Allison) was very friendly and attentive. The place was somewhat small and seemed to have a lot of regulars stop by so I'm hoping space doesn't become an issue. Will definitely be going back again!
Horrible Customer Service! – My family and I, along with another family, at at Smokin' Woody's tonight. As we were waiting for our food to arrive, my 14-month old son began to cry, as babies will do. Suddenly from the kitchen, a woman yelled extremely loudly at my child to "Shut Up!!!" I was shocked beyond words.
First of all, the fact that any person would yell at the top of their lungs at a baby and tell him to "shut up" is horrendous. I have no idea if this woman has children of her own, but if she does that I feel sorry for her children. She should be ashamed of herself. She is a grown woman and should know better than to tell anyone to "shut up," let alone a baby. Clearly she lacks any class or manners. Second, the restaurant was probably half-filled with families with children, all of whom witnessed the event. And finally, the fact that the restaurant is located in a primarily family-oriented neighborhood, and thus caters to families with children, warrants that the staff learn how to be courteous to all. If they do not want children in their restaurant, then they should make that fact very clear before their customers are seated. They are in the customer service business, but clearly at least one of their staff does not know how to treat customers.
Suffice it to say that we will not be returning to Smokin' Woody's. There are too many good BBQ restaurants in the city, and even in the Lincoln Square/Roscoe Village/North Center neighborhood. We do not need to suffer being treated in such a disrespectful manner.
If you have young children, do not go there lest your kids be yelled at too!
Outstanding top-notch BBQ, great service, friendly, fast – New management, recently re-opened, and it's awesome. Really outstanding BBQ. The guys there a VERY nice and prompt.
I never got a chance to try this place under the previous ownership, but didn't see any of the negative points other people seem to have commented on. I'm assuming that had to have been the "old" place. I'll definitely be going back.
Love the Food, Hate the Service – I love smoking Woody's for their BBQ. They absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to BBQ. I give them a 10 for great tasting food. But I can't get over the fact that every time I go there or order in, I receive terrible service. Normally customer service isn't a big thing with me, but they are starting to annoy me. Honestly, the only reason why I continue to eat there is because my significant other begs me. Last time I called in an order they didn't tell me they were out of chicken until I went to go pick it up. Hello! Why didn't they let me know right away or call me back? On top of that they forgot to put my dessert in my bag. Another time I called in for delivery, which took 2 hours, and they forgot a pulled pork sandwich and completely messed up my meal. I ordered a smoked turkey breast entree', and when I opened the box there was just deli meat in it. I don't understand what they thought I said or if that was a joke. When I called them to let them know the girl told me they were closing the kitchen and offered me a certificate. Ridiculous. Clearly the owner isn't there all the time and the staff doesn't care. They also had a waitress there who had extremely long green nails with dice and other things glues on to them. She's no longer there, but it really grossed me out when she offered to wrap my food up for me. Needless to say, I didn't take it home with me.
THIS PLACE IS A DISASTER ! GO ELSEWHERE ! – THIS PLACE IS FOR THE BIRDS. THE SERVICE IS AWFUL ! YOU CAN'T ENJOY THE FOOD BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET PAST THE SERVICE.
I CALLED TODAY TO PLACE AN ORDER. I HAD AN 8.00 CREDIT BECAUSE THE LAST ORDER I RECEIVED HAD TO GO IN THE GARBAGE. I'D HAD HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES THE LAST SEVERAL TIMES I ORDERED. I ATTRIBUTED IT TO THE PERSON TAKING THE ORDER. I FIGURED I WOULD GIVE IT SOME TIME AND TRY AGAIN ONLY IF SOMEONE ELSE ANSWERED THE PHONE. THIS PERSON WAS JUST AS RIDICULOUS AS THE OTHER ONE. I TRIED TO GET A MANAGER THERE ISN'T ONE. SHE SAID SHE COULDN'T FIND THE CREDIT. SHE BASICALLY ACCUSED ME OF TRYING TO RIP THEM OFF FOR 8.OO AS IF I DON'T HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO. SHE SAID SHE WOULD ASK AROUND TO SEE IF ANYONE REMEMBERED ME AND THEN APPLY IT TO MY NEXT ORDER. HOW STUPID IS THAT ?
THERE WON'T BE A NEXT ORDER.
THEY ARE POORLY MANAGED AND THEIR IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY. THEY SEEM TO BE GOING DOWN.
THAT WAS TOTALLY DISHONEST OF THEM TO PACIFY ME IN THE MOMENT AND THEN ACT CRAZY WHEN IT'S TIME TO MAKE GOOD ON A PROMISE. THEY TOPPED IT ALL OFF BY CALLING ME A LIAR. SHE ACTUALLY SAID ANYONE CAN CALL IN AND MAKE UP A STORY.
THAT'S WHY A GOOD COMPUTER SYSTEM AND RECORD KEEPING WOULD COME IN HANDY.
THE GIRL ARGUED WITH ME, MADE EXCUSES FOR THE OTHER ONE WITHOUT KNOWING THE DETAILS, HAD A NASTY ATTITUDE, AND TRIED TO DISCREDIT EVERYTHING I TOLD HER.
First time was the LAST TIME! – Tried this place after receiving coupon in the mail. Placed delivery order, but wasn't allowed to use coupon (unhelpful person on phone said it had expired?) Wouldn't allow ANY substitutions, (charged $2.00 for an ice-cream scoop of dry potato salad), and the food was pricey and of low quality.
DELIVERY TOOK 2.5 HOURS, AND a second phone call. When food arrived part was cold, part was hot. It was delivered an hour AFTER the second call we placed 1.5 hours after the order was placed. Then the delivery guy quoted a price that was higher than the receipt reflected- and without reviewing the receipt we tipped on his figure- so he got a $7 tip for a 2.5 hour delivery time!
When we opened the wet bag- the cold food was slopped everywhere and OUR ORDER WAS WRONG! Go elsewhere!
THE BEST BBQ NORTH OF THE SOUTH! – Excellent food! Excellent service! Great atmosphere! Go in and say hi to Woody, he's always there making sure you have the best food and service!
Casual barbecue place draws a clientele of North Center neighborhood regulars. – In Short
Nostalgic photos and whimsical tchotchkes crowd the walls and shelves in this comfortable room; seating is available at a handful of tables and on a back patio. The menu highlights simple barbecue classics like ribs (half or full slab), brisket and jumbo turkey legs, plus sandwiches, salads and sides. A sure bet is the pulled pork sandwich: big shreds of meat in a sweet sauce served with baby red potatoes and slaw.
Smokin' Goodies! – Annually omitted from the hokey "Northcenter Rib Fest", this cozy little joint is the real deal. Look forward to massive portions of delightfully smoked BBQ served with a smile. The friendly and very funny proprietor is always on hand to make sure you're happy. The best kept secret on the menu is the burger... just about the best around.
Smoken as in GREAT! – a small but rustic and busy little spot on the near Northside just pass the old Beer Palace on Lincoln Avenue. The place permiates of sause and fresh smoked chicken and babyback ribs. You get a small side salad, coslaw and plenty of bread to go with each order. The sause is tangy with a hint of spice and just drips off your finger's. The wait staff is small but friendly and effeciant. The price is right and the taste is great!
