Bad Service – Hi,
My husband and I visited this restaurant tonight, I have always been a huge fan of flatrock. But my experience was less than poor. We were seated and were treated pretty well, but then as people started coming in we were treated as if we weren't important at all. The family behind us was addressed with mam and sir and thank yous. My Tea was never refilled even after I asked for a refill, when she asked if we were ready for our check. She handed us our check and the people behind us at the same time. She handed them theirs and said she hoped they enjoyed everything and then just tossed ours on the table as she walked by. Not only was the service very bad, the food suffered too. My husband bought a $20 steak that was nothing but Fat. He couldn't even eat half of it, they also forgot to bring out his salad. He had to ask for it. I ordered the shrimp and grits and the grits were too dry and not completely cooked. I had a hard time finishing my plate since I didn't have any Tea. Oh and when the waitress came to pick up the check she still never brought me a refill. WE did give her a small tip, but I didn't want to. But I felt that maybe we were treated so differently because she probably assumed we weren't going to tip well and the people behind us would. So I wanted to make it clear that I was just as capable of leaving a tip also. And to top it all off when I went to inform the "Host"/Manager as he seemed to be. He acted as if he was to busy to hear my complaint and didn't seem to care. His excuse was that they had gotten really busy having furman coming in, but as I was trying to explain as he cut me off, was that the waitress had enough time to treat the people behind us with respect and hospitality so being busy was no excuse. He was most interested in cutting me short. We will not be back to this restaurant, all I wanted was for someone to take my complaint seriously.
Furman famlies love Flat Rock – We are now bringing our second daughter to Furman (2011). Every time we come to Greenville we visit Flat Rock Grille. It doesn't matter if we come in the fall, winter or spring (to visit our daughter) the food and service has always been great. I say this because we know it is not a national chain and we think that is why they are soooo good. The servers really are the BEST and they always accommodate our special needs. Try the layered salmon, tuna or prime rib. As far as the comment below.... the person says there is nothing to complain about, but that is all they are doing. They also say they are not looking for free meal, but then complain because they did not get something for free.
From a family that visits and are on the road a lot, go to Flat Rock and have a good, relaxing dining experience. Furman football and Flat Rock go together... Go Paladins!
Flat Rock Grille - at Cherrydale – As we waited for our appetizer to arrive, we noticed an extremely large (although dead) bug staring down on us. Ok, we can handle it. It's dead, afterall. But that wasn't the only thing. The table was extremely sticky and dirty. (Could have been used as a roach trap, it was so sticky!) Potato skins were over-cooked. Meal arrived, fries were tasteless and dry. Same with the rice. Filets were pretty good, but one was a little overcooked in areas (nothing to really complain about - they were good). Have to say, the crab cake was absolutely delicious! We pointed out the bug at the end of the meal to our waiter and asked to see the manager. The manager is actually the owner of this restaurant. We pointed out the bug - he said "oh, yes, we just sprayed a few days ago". (Might want to do a sweep through after a spraying?) Then we addressed the sticky table syndrome too - he said "oh, yes, residue it left on the tables from what they they use to clean them". (Okay... let's maybe look into a cleaner that doesn't leave that much residue?) That was it. Seriously??? Trying to be nice, we didn't even mention our dissatisfaction with the meal itself. We were not looking for a free meal. We are not that kind of people. But really? At least act like you give a hoot and want to keep your business! Take the drinks off our bill? Offer a coupon for a return visit? Nothing! If the owner keeps up these practices, this will be the next one closing.
CLOSED – This was a great place to eat. All Flkat Rock Grilles have been closed. :-(
Excellantay – We travel all over and find this to be a good restaurant to stop in and visit on the way home. As we live in Charleston we can atest to the good seafood instead of the frozen junk that most national chains have. Life is good and their food makes it better.
excellent food--excellent service – The staff and food were excellent. I travel throughout the SE and think they have some of the best food. We visit the location on North Pleasantburg. I have been to the low country where they advertise that they have good "shrimp and grits". Their "Shrimp and Grits" were awesome. They have other good food too, but this is good stuff.
Friendly Service, Bad Food – We ordered the fried fish sandwich and the grilled tuna special. My friend loved his sandwich - the portion was amazing - almost 3 filets on a bun. I ordered the tuna and was told it was suchi grade and I could order it rare - I did, with the Caeser and slaw. The fried food was fine, but the tuna was well-done, not rare, and tasted like rubber. The slaw tasted like candied cabbage. My friend really enjoyed the fries. This is a poor excuse for seafood. I suggest you walk about 100 yards over to the Greek restaurant in the same complex. Great food, average service.
Great seafood – The food is great. Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, but it is rarely bad. The blackened tilapia with lobster cream sauce is very, very good. The shrimp and crab dip appetizer is also quite good. For dessert, they have several selections including a brownie with a whole Hershey bar melted on top, a huge piece of peanut butter pie, and cheesecake sent to them from Carnegie Deli. I would give it a 9 out of 10. I can only speak for the Cherrydale branch, however.
