The best steak and sides in Atlanta! The cheesy mashed potatoes and corn make my mouth water just thinking of them ...
A true dining experience. Great bar and bartenders. Waiters were knowledgeable and friendly. The steak was perfect as were the sides and dessert.
New York Prime, One Word Awful – I visited the NY Prime Atlanta last night to celebrate my 13th year anniversary with my wife and the experience was totally awful. I should have known from the start when the valet ask me to park my own car . We were early around 6:30 so there was plenty of seating however the maître decided to pass all the good tables and booths and seat us in the a corner toward the back of the restaurant. I ordered a NY Strip medium rare and it was burned all over the top so when you took a bite you only tasted burned steak plus it was so dry . My wife ordered the chicken and it too was very dry. Our waiter never came back and asked how we were doing or are we enjoying our meal. If we needed something the person pouring water had to assist. Then to top it off when the maitre came over and ask how was everything and we said awful he just turned and left. This was a total waste of $95 dollars . Like I said in my title, AWFUL. I had a better Steak and experience at Applebees
Steak charred beyond recognition – I am completely mystified why some “high-end” steak houses have embraced the “Pittsburgh Style” cooking method in which they take excellent cuts of meat and char them beyond recognition. We were guests in a rather large party and we shocked that all of the steaks, regardless of how they were ordered (rare, medium, etc.) were served coal black with charred bits falling off on the plate. The rare and medium rare steaks were blood red raw on the inside and none of them were any warmer than room temperature. If we had not been guests most/all of us would have sent these back immediately. We had to cut the blackened crust off the outside and the partially cooked portions inside. Every plate I saw cleared contained piles of inedible burnt or raw meat. What an incredible waste.
Sub Par – I tried NY Prime for the first time and was so disappointed I had to write a review. I ordered my NY Strip rare, and the server told me it would have a cold red center. First of all, when you're paying almost $50 for a steak, it should be kept at room temperature long enough to not be cold in the center even when served rare. But that wasn't the problem.
The server didn't tell me that the steak would be charred. It came out closer to Medium, and I had to send the steak back. Even then, they didn't ask me if I would like light or no charring, so they brought out another steak that was a bit redder in the center but so charred on the outside I had to cut off the outside and top and eat only the center. My date ordered his ribeye at Medium Well and loved it, so I guess if you like very well done steaks this might be ok, but for true steak lovers, it's a mistake.
The servers were efficient but not at all personable. The sides, appetizers, and wine were great, but I went hoping for a great steak. I should have gone to Hal's or Rathbun's.
Amazing Service, good food – My family and I went to NYP on a last-minute whim after an event. It was early evening, and we were the first customers there. The bar staff was incredibly friendly, and we carried on a conversation with them as we had a round of drinks.
When we were being seated, we asked for a table out of the center area, and they quickly made the change. Our server was a young woman who put up with a lot from my rather particular father-in-law, and she handled it with grace and humor. The atmosphere was friendly yet elegant, and the service impeccable.
The only negative of the night was the way they cook steaks--apparently, they intentionally char them. Perhaps some people enjoy eating a $40 steak that is burnt, but my family was not a fan. My husband sent his back, and the server handled it with aplomb, and quickly had a new steak for him, prepared without char (and a new side dish).
Overall, the service and willingness to please was tremendous, and I was very impressed.
Special occassion....not anymore – I was first introduced to New York Prime by an associate while at a business dinner. I entertain a lot and the meaning of "customer service" means everything to me. I was absolutely amazed with the people, food and atmosphere at NYP! The timing of the staff is PERFECT and the conversation never drifts towards, "where's that waiter"?
The food is absolutely fantastic!! I have eaten steak and all types of food all over the country and I can say without a doubt this is the BEST of every world.
To top off the evening I asked for a tour on my very first visit and much to my surprise they gave it to me. I now visit this establishment whenever I can with clients or for just a simple evening with my wife. They staff learns you name and the owner is one of kind. Never will you have a guy that owns the joint at a 5 star establishment take your jacket!
Trust me when I say if you haven't eaten here then you haven't had a great meal yet.
Steady Qulity – Have eaten here many times. Always for a special occasion.
Service was as expected. They are not always the nicest but are on top of things.
Food was as expected. Get the Steak Fries. They are amazingly huge.
It was not overly crowded as it has been in the past. Not sure if that is a sign or just the economy.
Read My Honest Review – Don't let these snooty people make you think a restaurant that allows smoking somehow deserves 1 or 2 stars. I am a non smoker and I did not hesitate giving New York Prime 5 stars. Here's why;
My wife and I recently dined at New York Prime. I was a little shocked when I first walked in because my initial impression was that this was a high class, formal restaurant (based on the menu prices and the lambhorgini that was valet parked outside). The place was actually load and smokey like a bar. But that was fine with me. My wife best summed it up when she said it was like an 'old gentleman's club' that had a sophisticated Frat type atmosphere. We were greeted at the door by who we believe was one of the owners or managers who immediately took our coats. The place was packed and everyone including the guest were friendly.
The food was awesome. I had the bone in ribeye with baked potato and my wife had the garlic chicken. Both very juicy and filled with flavor. We must have had about 3 or 4 different servers and they all were not only knowledgeable about the menu and wines but also had a keen sense of humor and made us laugh. They made sure we were happy with our food. My wife got a wine she didn't like, and the bartender immediately brought her a different type that she loved (she ordered two glasses). I had two rum and cokes and the bartender made them exactly how I like them. This made the evening go way better then anticipated.
We had an amazing first time experience at New York Prime and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Honestly, Just Average For A Buckhead Steakhouse! – I have been by this restaurant, dozens of times since it has been open. Last night, a business associate was staying next door at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead. My friend insisted I join him here for dinner. As to why he did not ask me where to dine in Buckhead for steak, is beyond me. He is from NYC. Buckhead has many excellent steakhouse fine dining destinations. I was hesitant, but gladly went along. The first thing I noticed, was the smell of strong cigar smoke. I'm not a smoker, and well you know the rest. The menu read nicely, but at these prices, it had better be darn good. I opted for one of those 3-4 lobsters, I usually order across the street, at a well-known NYC steakhouse. The presentation was terrible, Why did my server forget the drawn butter? And my friend's steak was overcooked. I just smiled, and thought about all the other really great steakhouses in Buckhead. Our waiters attitude, was that of someone serving a salesman at an auto convention. I dine out several times a week, and I will never come back here, even if my friend is from New York!
