negative reviews are true – This business needs to class up
Neg reviews are old... new awesome management! – So I read a lot of negative reviews, and they're all so old! They've had a new manager for about a year and the place has really turned around. New equipment, cleaner, and just better. True it is small but you can't beat the price and it is so much better than it was!
Worst Trainers – I've been a member for 5 years and it's perfect for the 25 bucks a month it costs. Yes the equipment is crappy. Yes it's dirty. But for 25 $ it's a steal.
Do NOT use their trainers though. Besides being jerks, their clueless and improper training methods will get you hurt. Sometimes these guys are so bad it's laughable- tossing around weights close to where people are working out, not knowing the difference between quadriceps and hamstrings, hitting on the women they're training... unprofessional. The good news is that there's been a high turnover lately- many have been moved or fired I guess. The bad news is that it's not happening fast enough.
Best Deal In New York! – I don't know what these people are talking about. The guy I signed up with was perfectly friendly. I got 6 months for $149! They have similiar deals running now. I must say that this is a great deal.
It's in a basement and it's a little worn down. Every machine I have been on works, though, and they are good quality machines that are maybe a few years old. I must say this is a WAY better deal than Ludlow Fitness - the other L.E.S. gym near me. At Ludlow I had to wait up to 20 minutes just to get on a machine. It was a really nice gym, just too tiny and way too crowded. It gets crowded at Dolphin, but I can always get a machine. With the amazing 6 month deal, I can't complain!
Worst Gym Ever! – There is so many reasons not to join this gym! I agree with all the other review that it is a dirty, slimy place, with bad business policies. You are attracted to the gym because it is so much cheaper than other gyms in the area but the truth is that they lock you into a contract for training and then your stuck paying for services you never wanted or never recieved. The trainers seem like they were recruited straight from a prison yard. STAY AWAY!!!
STAY AWAY FROM THESE SLIMY CROOKS – WOW, All the reviews for DOLPHIN FITNESS GYM are so TRUUUE!!!. PLEASE whatever you do DO NOT, AGAIN I REPEAT DO NOT, sign any sort of contract with this facility. Take it from personal experience I was taken for a ride by the RUDE,SLIMY, DECEIVING STAFF. Now I want to pull out of the contract which I was told by the manager at the 4th st. location that I can pull out within 30days if not satisfied with the service and much to my surprise Sports Fitness (headquarters) is making it impossible for me to cancel, making my life a living nightmare. If they can't charge one credit card they will gain access to another credit card and charge that one without your authorization. Yes, they're prices are cheap but remember you get what you pay for. The equipment is ancient, the majority of them are in non working conditions, benches are torn. You'll probably find new and better equip. at your local Y. SPORTS FITNESS CO. is the shadiest company I've ever seen out there. I have reported this company to the Better Buss. Bureau. If you have any intentions in joining this deceitful gym don' t say you weren't warned.
Don't say you were not warned ! – Join at your own risk. The last two reviewers are quite right. On the plus side, it's cheap but everything has a price. The staff is helpful until you sign a contract and then it's all downhill from there. They will not give you the time of day after that and sadly, they will not let you cancel your membership. You will have to fight for months to get them to stop changing your cards and they will not answer their phone or return your call (I wish I was exaggerating) It's one of my worst experience in New York and I have been here a while. The place is always packed with people and you always have to wait. I have since joined the YMCA and it's high luxury compare to Dolphins. Do not join !!!
No-frills gym with ultra-low membership fees. – In Short
This New York-area fitness chain lures customers with rock-bottom prices for six-month and one-year contracts, or non-committal monthly memberships that run almost as cheap. The gyms, bare-bones and compact, are packed with treadmills, exercise bikes, weight-training equipment and televisions providing entertainment--and, with the low prices, you can expect a wait when it's busy. Change up your workout at certain locations where personal training services and a schedule of classes are offered.
Extremely Rude Staff Member – I am not renewing my membership because of the extremely rude staff member. I go to this gym every morning, Monday through Saturday. And every time this man is working, he seems to single people out to hassle. He waits until a line forms to inform everyone that they have to put their name on some list to get a machine. He accuses people of sneaking into the gym when he watched these same people sign in only minutes earlier. His attitude is not appreciated, and I will not tolerate rude customer service. For the executives at Dolphin, perhaps you should reconsider continuing his employment because not only is he rude, but he isn't promoting good health (i.e. he has to rush out the door to have a cigarette when there is no one to give a hard time).
DO NOT JOIN!!! – The worst gym of which I have ever been a member! Half of the exercise machines are broken and all of their stair-masters are out of commission! All three broke in December and then one reappeared in January. Because there was only one, it was inevitable that it would break because of nearly non-stop use. I voiced my concerns and heard another member complain, but all they say is "we're working on it". The only thing they are working on is running a terrible gym. It's cheap you say? Well, what management doesn't realize is that word of mouth is powerful and numerous people have asked me about Dolphin (because it's cheap) and I tell them it's definitely not worth it. It's costing them more to be cheap than it is to fix the equipment and have a positive reputation . Oh well, they reap what they sow...
