Happiness Is Finding A Couch – Earlier this year I had my living room redone and decided to buy some new furniture to compliment my new digs. I specifically was looking for something practical but not old fashioned, so Ethan Allen was definitely out (sorry).
After shopping through many, many, many furniture stores, trade showrooms and online retail outlets I finally settled on a Crate and Barrel in Soho, NY. Now typically I am very particular about my selection in furniture. However, I wanted to give Crate and Barrel a chance because my Aunt had used this store to redesign three of the rooms in her new home. As soon as I entered I was approached by a sales associate who was very helpful throughout the entire shopping process. He helped to guide me each step of the way from my selection to the purchase. I was surprised that I hadn
you win this time, crate and barrel – I don’t think I will ever find a store that I can spend hours upon end in like Crate and Barrel. When I was nine, I convinced my mom to buy overpriced popcorn bowls that were literally just bowls that said “popcorn” on them and were illustrated with little cloud like wisps of popcorn. I also tried to get her on the matching ice cream bowls, but in the end we both agreed that the popcorn bowls were cuter. Crate and Barrel has this magical way of subconsciously convincing you that you absolutely NEED new throw pillows, or that your kitchen is incomplete without glasses with little fishes detailed on them. I found that this silent urge to swipe everything into your cart does not wane with age. The only problem is that as I get older, I still am unable to afford the majority of beautiful objects that Crate and Barrel has to offer. At the end of a rough week, I sauntered into my local Crate and Barrel in search of stem-less wine glasses. Chic as they are, stem-less wine glasses are terribly flimsy, and my roommate and I have broken all four of them in the last year. In seeking to replace them, I managed to pick up a new memory foam bath mat, a set of martini glasses (what grown up apartment is complete without them) and candles and candleholders. Waaaay too much money later, I came home and distributed the new things about my apartment. While I cannot actually afford these things, it was comforting to a point of being soothing that I had spent my hard earned money on items I felt were necessary to better my life at home.
