New owner is very good – My wife and daughters needed a quick service and the nearest nail salon is this place. However my family vow to never return there from past experiences but we didn't have much time to travel to University Area to Todays Nails so my family decided to give this place one more try.
My family was surprise that there is a new owner now. The new staff are much more friendly and the service was excellent as it should have been before. I believe the last owner and rude manners could not manage the nail salon successfully.
The new owners though are great people but having a hard time being accepted since the last owner left a bad impression for everyone. Give this place another chance and you won't be disappointed. Good riddance to the previous owner.
NOT RECOMMENDED DUE TO HEALTH HAZARD – Not recommended for manicures. I went in for regular manicure (no false nails or tips). The nail tech damaged the cuticles on both hands w/ dangerous cutters AS WELL AS cut my skin around the top of 2 fingers leaving both hands scarred. I will never again get my nails done there and don't recommend it to anyone else. This practice of clipping and cutting cuticle skin is VERY DANGEROUS and could easily lead to infection. Cuticles are very important to the health of your nail bed as well as your overall health. It is highly possible to develop a staph infection this way. I am dumbfounded by their carelessness and ignorance and will be reporting them to the Health Dept and Cosmetology Board. I hate for Birkdale to lose a tenant but this is truly a health hazard.
Lousy Customer Service – I rarely get my nails done, but I was getting married over the weekend and wanted a nice manicure and pedicure. I brought my sister and mother with me to have the same service done. I called ahead to make an appointment and I was quoted $35 for both a mani and pedi. The quality of the work was fine. When the bill came (my sister had already paid for herself), I was charged $80 for my mom and myself, which is $10 more than they had quoted over the phone. I chalked it up to the fact that I got a french manicure, which I did not tell them when they quoted the original price. I never saw a printed price list while in the shop. I paid by debit card and my mom paid the tip in cash. About two weeks later, I checked my bank statement and discovered that they had charged me the $80 THREE TIMES!!! I went to the shop with a printout of my statement and I was told to come back in an hour since the manager was not in. When I came back to the shop, she looked at my statement and told me to leave my phone number and statement so she could go over her recorders at home. She told me she would call me the next day (Saturday). By this time I was getting pretty frustrated, but I agreed. On Saturday, it was already 12:30 p.m. and I had not heard from them. My husband and I were out running errands and decided to stop by. She seemed surprised to see us, looked at her watch, and said "Oh, the bank is already closed." She was albe to produce the receipt from my transaction. (There was only one receipt.) She still insisted that she need to see if her bank had been credited three times before she would refund my money. The issue has still not been resolved. Although I am sure that this will clear itself up it has been more hassle that it's worth. If you go, pay in cash.
If you want your nails to burn and turn yellow come here – I went to this nail spa the other day, and I had the worst experience ever. I came in wanting a mani/pedi. The pedi was fine. The nail tech put some "cuticle stuff" on my hands, and placed my hands in plastic bags. A couple minutes later the product starting tingling....then burning. I let her know that it started hurting me, and as she was taking the product off it hardened and turned my nails yellow. She had to take this "cuticle stuff" off with her cuticle nippers because it hardened and it took the top layer of my nail off. I just wanted to wash my hands, and get whatever she put on me off. I wouldn't let her continue the mani because I was scared. I didn't know what happened. I have had hundreds of manis before, and nothing like that ever happened. When it came time to pay I didn't feel that I should pay for the whole service. I didn't get a full mani, and my nail were yellow. They girl and owner/manager came over to look at my nails. They said I came it with yellow nails, and tried to ask if me I fake tan or work with chemicals. They kept on trying to take them blame off them. I know I didn't come in with my nails yellow and burning. When I told them I didn't feel that I should pay for the mani, but I'd pay for the pedi they told me I was crazy. I didn't know what to do. Then to top it off as I was leaving, the owner/manager was talking about me to her client. I was shocked. I work in customer service. I would never do that to a client. I wasn't trying to get the enitre service for free. The are unprofessional to say the least. I would never recomened going there. It's just worth it to pay the extra money and get a luxury mani at a day spa.
