Yummy – This place has such delicious food and they always give you little samples of other things to try with your meal. I especially like the mashed potato/vegetable--it's not potato, it's some other vegetable, but it's so interesting and different. They have very good friendly service. The only suggestion I would make is to upgrade the atmosphere a bit.
Good food, consistent service. I always enjoy going back. – I've been frequenting the Rice Box for several years, and I have to say that it is not surprising why I go back. The food is of higher quality - no greasy-wok establishment here; the service has always been polite and considerate; you get a very filling meal for you money; the place is always clean, (restrooms included.) I cannot give any specific recommendations for dishes. I only can say that whether or not I liked or disliked a dish, it was not because it was poorly made. Other notes- very casual, not fancy. A good place to grab a quick bite.
Like mom's cooking...if she was Korean – Rice Box may not be as hip as neighbor Koryo or uptown's JinJu, but the food is as hot and delicious and ample if your mom made it...if she was Korean, that is.
People wanting to try Korean food for the first time can find themselves here in an atmosphere that is unintimidating and friendly. Newbies are encouraged to their their tender bbq ribs (Kalbi) or sauteed beef (Bul go gi).
People more daring should give their Bi bim bop (a Korean rice casserole that you mix yourself) a shot: spicy and filling, their portions leave you rolling out the door. It doesn't get better than this.
The lunch specials are worth every penny, with dinner size portions at less than $6.
Highly Recommended – Rice Box is one of the better deals in the area as you get a lot of food for no more than about $6.00 or half that for lunch. I would recommend the tender Bul Go Gi beef or the chicken teriyaki. Great tea is included as well.
Quick Korean Food – Finally, a take-out Korean restaurant in Lakeview/Lincoln Park. Serves various Korean dishes (a few Japanese also) in a food-box format, complete with soup, salad, and other vegetable sides. If you want a quick fix for Korean food, Rice Box can satisfy your appetite. Not the best, but it is better than nothing. For a sit-down meal, head of Koryo down the street. Rice box also delivers.
