terrible – I moved away from Chicago months ago and they still haven't figured out the situation with my final bill inspite of the fact that I called them repeatedly and told them when I was moving. Also, my DSL service with them was very buggy and unreliable. If you can find a better company, go with them.
Maybe I'm crazy... – I've had no problems at all with the Ameritech folks. They flipped on my phone service and it's been just fine -- except for that one week when it went dead, so I guess I can't say I've had no problems. And I've got DSL service and that's ben pretty close to flawless too -- of course, I chose the self-installation.
I'm pretty much with you on this one ... not too many problems for me either.
More charges than a 12 volt battery – Ameritech seems to have a hold on the business and therefore, doesn't offer the best in customer service. Average hold time is about 5-10 minutes. The fees for various options on a line are too high. But, I think what bothers me the most is that they charge for calls you make, per minute. I'm used to getting a line, spending the $$, and then getting unlimited calls. And of course calling the other Chicago area code is a higher per-minute fee. I get the basic line and have an answering machine. I use my cell phone for the rest, including long distance. All that said I still have a hefty bill every month.
Terrible service – Having recently relocated here, I have been amazingly disappointed with Ameritech service. They missed my original hook-up date, almost missed the second one two weeks later (!), were very unprofessional about their errors and never successfully sent my phone books--crippling when new in town. I think it is terrible when a utility co. takes advantage of its position as a necessary provider. At least their "Stick with what you know" ad campaign is honest--they don't claim to be good.
Absolutely the worse – In the year I have dealt with Ameritech, I have yet to have a pleasant experience. All service people I have dealt with were incompetent. They never do what they say when they say. And they continue to have a monopoly on the local phone service. If there was an option, I would take it. I heard a rumor about AT&T hitting town. When that happens look for me at the airport with a large banner saying -- 'Welcome -- my local phone life has been local hell and I'm glad you are here.' The only thing they are good at is television commericials. I hate to say it, but darn they are funny.
