Great food and great ambiance – I'm a Portlander & stereotypically snobby about my food. I was incredibly skeptical of my Boise friend's claim about the quality of cuisine on offer in Idaho...until he and his wife took me here a couple weeks ago. The grilled kale appetizer was amazing and the pasta dish I had for a main course was solid. Our waitress knew her microbrews exceptionally well and did not steer us wrong on the beverages. Looking forward to coming back here on my next visit to Boise.
Only if You Have Time to Spare – We are new to the area, so we went downtown to explore and get a late lunch. The Red Feather Lounge was one of the only places open for food at 3pm on Sunday, so we went it hoping for some good food and friendly service.
No one welcomed us, or even bothered to make eye contact, so our party of three adults and two small children sought out a table for ourselves (a sign or verbal direction would have been helpful there.) Eventually, a server threw a "Be with you in a minute!' our direction. A while later she came by to take drink orders, and then sped off without asking if we wanted appetizers (we did!). Eventually we flagged her down to get some chips & salsa, but those took a half an hour - and a second reminder - to arrive at our table. Our lunch took an additional half-hour (burgers, grilled-cheese, and mac & cheese). They were tasty enough, but the lack of personable service and the excessive waiting had us all pretty disgruntled. Our server never smiled or offered her name - just took our orders and disappeared. If you do go, expect to be assertive and/or patient. From the time we sat down to the time we had our burgers was a whopping one hour - on a relatively quiet Sunday afternoon. Makes you wonder how long an evening dinner would take!
P.S. Watch out for menu surprises - I was charged extra for my side salad (with no apology from the server for the misunderstanding), and it was loaded with raw, chopped onions (not listed on the menu) that took a long time to pick off. I would have asked for a new salad, but I didn't want to wait another half hour!
