Great fallafel, excellent Kosher choice on Melrose – Tried Wholesome Pita for the first time today and was pretty happy with the quality of the food. The service was okay, though it seems to be primarily a take-out place with take-out type service expectations. I ordered the falaffel plate which was a good value at $8.99 which included salad, hummus, 6 falaffels, pita, and choice of rice or french fries. One thing I don't care for is that the fountain drinks have a sign posted that says "no refills"...seems a little cheap.

Still, if you're looking for a good Kosher place on Melrose this is definitely one to try. The bakery located next door (which I believe is owned by them too) looks fantastic (and has a huge pareve selection), though I haven't tried it personally.

Regarding a prior review that criticized the service as rude when the cashier threw the change on the counter I have one thing to say. Many people may not be aware that for certain (very observant) Jewish people it is forbidden for a man and a woman to make physical contact (even passively, such as handing change) with a person whom they are not married to. It is VERY common for female cashiers in kosher stores to toss change onto the counter quickly so as not to accidentally come into contact with a man whom they are forbidden to. This isn't rudeness, but I can see how it would be interpreted as such if one is unaware of the custom.

Bad service; worse food. – I went in to this place for lunch. Seemed fine. Was seated and given a menu. The waitress took my order: a chicken kabob wrap and a diet coke. Well she never brought my drink over and THREE people got their food before me. When she brought my food, I had to remind her about my diet coke. She brought over a warm can when everyone else in the restaurant had iced sodas from a fountain.

The food was TERRIBLE. Usually you pay extra for kabobs because they are white meat. Not in this case. I don't mind dark meat but this was the worst quality dark meat I've had in awhile. Gristley and overcooked. There was also very little of it (not that I really minded). The wrap was mostly pita or whatever they use.

Avoid unless everything else in a 10 mile radius is closed.

best shwarma's! – Wholesome Pita is a typical shwarma joint. If you want to eat what they make best, you should order the shwarma plate, or just a single. The chicken kabob's are good as well as a chicken hoagie sub. Everything i've ordered there is delicious and it is a great spot to hang out with friends after a long walk on melrose. The place is open late, so you can hop in for a midnight snack. Order food for what the place was made for, not the random "tuna" or "fried fish" dishes.

Terrible service. Average Food. Never going back. – I worked around Melrose and often pass by Wholesome Pita and finally decided to go in and try this place. I ordered a fried fish sandwich. "No fried fish left". Then, I ordered a plain fish sandwhich which was available. The waitress charged me $8.99 when it cost $7.99 (I corrected her to her annoyance). Then, instead of handing me my change, the waitress threw in on the counter. They also got the customer's order before me wrong which he sent back. When I did receive my sandwich, it was nothing but a slab of tuna slathered with mayonaise on a bun. All for $7.99. Don't waste your time here. Worst I've had in LA.

Great Food, great value – My boyfriend and I go to Wholesome Pita a few times a month for the nice waitstaff and the amazing value. We get pita combos: only $7 for great food, fries, salad bar, and a drink. I love the falafel. This place is kosher but we aren't and love it.
