Wealth of knowledge and Great Atmosphere – This is a fantastic hair salon. I went in to this salon without knowing any of the designers, merely walked into this place because they had a sidewalk sign that caught my eye. The receptionist was welcoming and kind, and this place was clearly busy! I knew that with this many people getting their hair done, it had to be a great place. I did have to come back an hour later to (first time they had an opening) but didn't mind waiting at the front desk to get my appointment. I had Melissa do my hair. She is amazing! Great hair stylist. This place offers a vey friendly atmosphere, very obvious there are years of experience in this salon. The designers all looked great, and knew what they were doing I was instantly comfortable, and I am a FAN of this place! Will be back with my two teenage boys and my husband will be coming here too. Both men and women are really comfortable here! Color room is in the back which is also a great plus. I don't like my color done in front of everyone. I HIGHLY recommend this salon!
Great stylists, but reception needs some help – I love this salon. I had a regular hairdresser who left and am very picky as most stylists I have encountered love to go crazy on my hair! Sarah did my hair today and she was just wonderful. Listened and asked lots of questions to make sure they style worked and was what I wanted. Very friendly and personable. Only thing I dislike about this place is the receptionist. She is not very friendly and half the time its like your bothering her. Or she just kind of talks off to the side like your not even there. My boyfriend complained about her too, saying when he went in to get the gift certificate it took her forever to even acknowledge him becaus she was so busy talking. Ok anyway she just threw out my gift certificate without even looking to see if there was a balance on it. I figured maybe she took it (was not much, $7 but still it could be used toward the next time instead of just thrown away.) Then looking at the receipt I saw the balance was still on there. Called and was told nothing could be done if that was the case. I would give five stars if she had better service skills. It kind of makes me not want to go back. I hate getting people in trouble and I'm sure if my name comes up it will come back on me when I go back there.

It should have been explained to you is that the remainder balance of your gift card does remain in our computer system, so rest assured your balance, if any, is still available to you. In all reality, if there was a remainder, the card should have been returned to you. Just a note: we have two receptionists at this salon, and one is BRAND NEW this week. She just began on Monday. If it happened to be the new receptionist, I am sure that the she's very much on a learning curve and continue to grow. I hope this situation with a recpetionist would not harm your outstanding relationship with your deisnger.Again, I (we) apologize for this situation.
Perfect visit, great prices, great staff !! – I had a thermal straightening process done, and Mandy was great. She was so helpful, and offered great advice. The staff worked well together, everyone was so positive and friendly and courteous. The prices were completely reasonable. I will be back !! You can really trust this salon.
VERY KNOWLEDGABLE – This salon has a wealth of expertise. I had a non-formyldahide blowout at this salon and I swear theirs is better than any other brand out there! This is an excellent blowout service and makes your hair feel much better than any other straightening blowout I've had! The consultation was complete and I felt completely comfortable doing this service over my last Brazillian Blowout (which I was dissatisfied with). Connie did my service, but the other designers in the salon are also very friendly an all seem well qualified with loads of experience. Well run salon with great atmosphere. I highly recommend! By the way had a cut right afterward and the cut was awesome as well! Added later, by the way the receptionist is wonderful and friendly?!? Don't know what the previous person was talking about. Everyone here has a great attitude!
Studio K Salon Convenient – I have visited this salon on several occasions as it
is in my neighborhood. Must say that I have been
exceptionally pleased with Gloria who is friendly and willing to listen and fill all my requests - and
my hair is STUBBORN. I've been very impressed
with the entire staff with one exception. The daytime
receptionist needs some customer service training.
She's always reading a book and barely looks up
when you enter. Someone wrote that the owner
talks about communication - well this young lady needs communication skills, a pleasant smile and the ability to greet customers. I've heard from friends that they have not returned due to this one factor. Possibly she is
very shy - but then she shouldn't be in the position of
receptionist. Please make a staff change as I would
like to continue coming to your salon. Thanks. Jill
Love my new look!!!!! – I actually walked into this salon without an appointment. I was fortunate enough to be able to get my hair cut AND colored in the afternoon. (I had to come back for an opening that one of the designers had). The staff was very friendly and I truly wanted something DIFFERENT. I had no idea what I wanted to get done, but did have some old color to match if they could. Not only did Many match my color, but she added some lovely highlights, that I had not had suggested before, and I love them! I also had my hair cut changed ...wanted something a bit more 'today' and a bit more 'sassier'. Well, I am THRILLED THRILLED THRILLED with my new look! Great job! Great salon, know their stuff. I will be back and I HIGHLY recommend Studio K!
Studio K is GREAT!! – I love this salon. It is one of the rare salons where you don't have to put on an attitude to get great hair! The designers are varying, there are some that are more edgy with hair, some more conservative which I think is a great attribute. I have been to almost all of the stylists over the past year and a half that I've been living in the area. I knew this salon was the right one for me the moment I first walked in the door. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and well versed. Some I know love color better than others, some LOVE to do haircuts, I have not had a bad experience yet. The stylists DO take the time to communicate, and listen to what it is you are asking for, and they even ask each other when it comes to opinions if needed. I have always felt comfortable with this salon and continue to do so. I recommend this salon to anyone, especially when someone asks me where I get my hair done!! Thank you Studio K!
Excuses, Excuses – This place was awful. So, I saw all of these great reviews and read the bad ones where the owner said communication is important. So I made sure to communicate when I went there.
I went for a simple hair cut and blowdry my hair straight. I won't go into the haircut part, but suffice it to say A LOT of communication was needed to get my hair cut the way I wanted it (which is more annoying than anything else).
The worst part was when I asked to have them blowdry my hair straight. My hair can get pretty frizzy, but in all of the salons I've gone to (good/bad/ok) they all can blowdry my hair no problem. Anyway, she starts blowdrying the whole thing (and I remember a stylist telling me before that for hair that can frizz easy, you want to do it in sections and straight right away b/c its harder to get the sleek look after). I mention to her that ppl normally do my hair in sections, she says its personal preference of the styler but begins doing it in sections. Each section is getting frizzier and frizzer and she keeps coating my hair in product (my hair never needs that much). I try communicating more, telling her I've never needed that much product before and my hair is a lot sleeker when they finish a section. Her response is to tell me she's sorry but she shouldn't have been working that day, she's having a bad day, etc. In the end, I had a bird's nest on my head, I had to put it in a bun when I left and the woman (thank god) didn't even try to charge me for the straightening. I also had to wash my hair out when I got home because it was so gross from all of the product.
I don't care how many good reviews you get, what excuses you try to give, what miscommunications there could possibly be-NO WAY a good salon doesn't know how to blowdry someone's hair straight, even on their worst day. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a salad with bugs in it-its so simple, even I could do it at home and with less product in my hair.
I don't care what the owner will try and tell me when she reads this...if it's not a complete ownership of my experience without some kind of excuse attached, I don't want to hear it. I would NEVER EVER give them a second chance. I recommend to everyone else not to give them a first.
Sorry you had a bad experience. No way for me to know who you are and attempt to make this right. If you got bugs in your salad,(your scenario above)you would notify the waiter. We would have preferred to have the same courtesy. We checked -no one by the name given above. There are many ways to dry curly/frizzy hair, and to 1st take moisture out of hair by generic drying (not sectioning)is not an incorrect manner to begin blow drying curly/ frizzy hair. Hair has NO memory until last % of dampness remains. Please email StudioKSalon@nc.rr.com, and info will go directly to me. Not only is this a highly unusual situation, I am unable to validate your review. It is rare to have someone this upset and not indicate so while IN the salon so we could have found you another designer, or some way for you to be satisfied. I can only apologize. I STRONGLY encourage you to contact me. I would like to understand the entire occurrence and certainly cannot deal with it without any info.
One of Durham's Best – I have been coming to this salon for over 5 years. There is stability with designers, with the owner, they know how to create excellent cuts and styles, there is something reassuring about coming here KNOWING full well you will get customer satisfaction, as well as a great cut and excellent color. On occasion I have attempted to 'try' another place just to 'see' what they'd do and never have I felt as well taken care of as I do at Studio K, and I am always satisfied. The prices are great, the designers are all very well versed and it is friendly! EXCELLENT salon with a great reputation and outstanding long-time record of excellence.
Mandy is the best! – I went to Mandy after a botched haircut and horrible color that turned my hair yellow. I didn't even want to go out in public. Mandy very carefully matched up my real, normal color and in just a little while, I left feeling like me again. It was just wonderful. Two weeks later, it still is wonderful---the small amount of fading (which she told me to expect) has improved the color. Definitely a good experience and a great stylist.
