great food, great value – wow, my bf and i have nothing but good things to say about our early bird dinner experience. we both got 3 courses for about 15-20 bux each. I got the tomato soup, salmon and tiramisou. and he got the salad, steak and sorbet. Salad was just OK, but all the other courses are exceptional. after tax and tips, it was under $50 bux. That was the best meal we've had for $50 anywhere.

9.7!?? Give me a break – This place is average at best. The wine list, the food, the appetizer -- all very average.

Poor service, decent food – 3 of us went there for lunch last week, and the service was terrible. I think the place was too busy for the few # of people working, but that's no excuse for getting 2 of the 3 orders wrong, needing to ask for water refills more than once, and no attention to service whatsoever. We all agreed the food was average--the scallops in the risotto were too rubbery and the falafel in the wrap was undercooked and mushy. I will not go back there again.

Unique and Classy... My wife loves the place. – We have known of Zucca since it first opened. It brought life to a section of Castro Street that had been dead and run down. Zucca has a great night life without the horde of low lives. I love the food, the owners are good people, and the food is bar none. We love the food especially their Hangar Steak its our favorite.

Great, vibrant place! – Terrific food and ambience. Period. The service can be diffident at times, but they're very nice. And one of the owners, a jolly "Zucca" of a man, is as affable as anyone I've encountered while dining out. Go w/ the hangar steaks, the meze platter and have them whip up some dessert for you. It's all great stuff.

Spendy, but Fantastic – It's a little spendy here. However you will walk out of there very happy that you were there. Their Martini list is huge, and of excellent quality. Their bar is increadibly stocked, even with rare Grapas. Do yourself a favor and order the wildest thing on the menue, or actually the beef is super well. The rabbit is nice too. The owner and higer level staff treat you like someone special. It's a really great place to visit.

Pretty good, a little pricey – The food and ambience were good, but not great. The service was okay; I remember we weren't too happy with it, but it's been a while so I can't be more specific. I had the rabbit, and my boyfriend had the linguine with crab, and we shared calamari. These were all pretty good. They have a pretty interesting drink menu, which was cool. We went on a Saturday night, and it was quite crowded, so I would recommend a reservation. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Overall, though, I think there are other places that are better for the price (or the same for less :) ). Worth trying if you are looking for a new place though.

An elegant, romantic Italian restaurant that also produces delightful, unexpected treats from Greece and Turkey. – The Scene
This elegant restaurant is a favorite with locals who appreciate inventive cooking, gracious service and surprisingly reasonable prices. The long space is romantically lit with flickering candles that reflect in the wall-length mirror. Walls are hung with brightly colored Middle Eastern rugs and dishes, dried flowers and a painting of Greek fishing boats.

The Food
At first glance, Zucca appears to be an Italian restaurant, but the imaginative menu includes Greek and Turkish dishes. Creamy butternut-squash ravioli float in a pool of mild brown butter with fresh cranberries and a hint of hazelnut. Garden-fresh Tuscan tomato-bread soup is a riot of herbal and acidic tastes. Parmesan risotto with sautéed spinach and tomato-pepper confit is very flavorful. Juicy, golden, crisp-skinned Greek spiced chicken is a perfect blend of delicate meat and tart baked tomatoes. End with the excellent molten chocolate cake, a compact bittersweet round served with homemade pistachio gelato.

Horrible Hostess – I have been to Zucca a few times and each time the food and cocktails were delicious...HOWEVER, the greeting hostess was incredibly rude and ungracious. Last time she was so bad, we left the restaurant before being seated and went somewhere else.

Hip interior, mediocre food – Great ambiance both inside and outside. On cold nights the staff bring blankets for outdoor diners. However, the food is mediocre and doesn't warrant special attention.
