Great store – I love this store for it's unique selection of designers. They carry Gary Graham (one of my favorites) along with other lines with an architectural aesthetic. Really fantastic jewelry selection as well. Everything is at a higher price point, so I usually restrict myself to just one purchase.
Robin Richman does not show respect to her customers – I recently went to Robin Richman's store and bought 2 items, one of which was a bracelet. When I got home I put the bracelet on and, as I was latching the bracelet, the clasp fell off. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the bracelet was poorly constructed - the latch had been attached with a very small amount of glue or solder. I decided to go back to the store the next day to try to get a refund for the bracelet.
When I went back the clerk told me that they would not give me a refund. However, she said that she would show Robin Richman (the store owner) the bracelet and ask her to reconsider. Robin called me back a couple of days later and told me that she would still only give me store credit. I explained to her again why I felt I was entitled to a refund, at which point she started yelling at me. This escalated to the point where she was basically screaming, and then she just hung up. I tried calling back but only got her answering machine.
In my opinion, it is not worth the hassle to shop at Robin Richman's store. It isn't even about the fact that they sold me bad merchandise. The real problem is that Robin Richman apparently does not respect the customers who keep her in business. If she had spoken to me calmly on the phone and tried to work out a deal with me, instead of treating me like I was trying to steal from her, I would feel much different about her and her store. But now, I just want to get the word out so that this does not happen to anyone else.
When You're Looking for Something Different – This is boutique shopping at its best. Not only are the designers they carry cutting edge and unique, the store is designed to be interesting and reflects the owner's quirky, yet excellent taste. It's hard to go in here without finding something you've never seen before and that you have to take home. It seems they work really hard to create a good shopping experience for the customer.
Cool, handmade threads give this cute women's clothing store its cachet. – The Scene
Fast becoming a staple on the northern fringe of Bucktown, Robin Richman is actually much bigger than it appears from outside. The atmosphere is steeped in antique chic, with vintage travel knickknacks, weathered clothes hangers mounted on the wall and slightly creaky floorboards. Owner and designer Richman is usually around and eager to talk about her pieces. Don't miss the back room packed with more merchandise.
Richman creates her own fresh designs for each season and also carries a select set of international designers. What ties all the fashions together is a playful fusion of various patterns and fabrics worked together into individual stunning pieces. A co-ed shoe section featuers funky kicks from European designers. A nice assortment of beaded jewelry, purses, hats and Asian-inspired stationery rounds out the selection.
