A pleasant, pleasant surprise – We had a wonderful experience at Cafe de Paris. From the outside, it has somewhat of an unassuming look to it (my husband though it was WAY more casual--like a sub shop--given the exterior!) But once inside, it was warm and vibrant at the same time. We had a going-away dinner for my cousin and his wife, and since they currently live in Sherlington, VA, and we live in Baltimore, it was a good halfway point for all of us. The barkeep was pleasant and knowledgeable and took care of our needs well--very attentive. The hostess was pleasant, and our waitress Jennifer was right on the money with her recommendations.

She, too, was very attentive. The food was stellar, from the warm chicken/sausage on salad, pan roasted pork loin, pan seared swordfish, prime rib, filet mignon, crab cakes, duck confit, to the lamb chops! Ah, the the lamb chops! They were perfect, and my waitress DID ask me how I wanted them. The desserts were delectable: the warm apple tart, the warm peach and pear cake, and the fresh fruit crepes with fresh whipped cream! Mmmmmm. Our wine, a French Pinot Noir, was a great accompaniment to a great meal. They didn't rush us, they were attentive, and we will definitely come back for more! Don't be discouraged by the other 2 reviews: it was magnifique!

Terrible Dining Experience – From the moment we arrived in the restaurant and waited at least 5 minutes for someone to greet us, to the time we were leaving and had an interesting conversation with the nonchalant owner, our experience at Cafe de Paris was total disappointment. I should have known based on my call to make reservations. I was rushed off the phone as I told him it was my daughter's birthday.

The following is a sampling of our evening: Waiter did not know specials, had to keep referring to his notes. Not given a wine menu. Tonic water flat in drink. We asked for lemon in first drink. 2nd drink was brought with a lime instead~no attention to detail. Candle on table~not lit. Ordered escargot but was not given a cocktail fork until we asked for one. It wasn't until halfway through our caesar salad we were offered pepper. Two of the three entrees ordered were cold and had to be sent back. As we were finishing our entrees a table nearby was being brought out desserts as the Happy Birthday song was being sung. Of course, it would have been nice had a note been made about our celebration. Again, no attention to detail. Please keep in mind it clearly was not a busy night as our table was one of five that were occupied. As we were walking to our car, the owner was sitting outside smoking and asked us how everything was. We politely told him what transpired and his response was "there is nothing I can do" Very unapologetic, cocky.

The price is not worth it – I saw the rating for this restaurant and wanted to try it out but I was really disappointed with the entire experience.

Authentic French country cooking in a relaxed yet romantic setting that comes with a soundtrack. – The Scene
Owner Erik Rochard, who is French, recreates the feel of a 1950s French bistro in this charming space with intimate booths, hardwood floors, and warm ruby and mustard walls adorned with Parisian prints. An alcove houses a cozy bar area, and one side of the restaurant is devoted to a deli and pastry shop. The music is so sunny and romantic that diners might think they've stumbled into a Maurice Chevalier movie.

The Food
From savory roasted red peppers stuffed with goat cheese to an unbelievably rich chocolate mousse, the theme here is decadent without being fussy. A green salad in a light vinaigrette becomes something special with the addition of bacon, shrimp and chicken, and a hearty braised chicken arrives with rich mushroom risotto. Desserts are rich but not overly sweet, and include a warm, buttery cake topped with peaches and pears that is, quite simply, manifique.
