WORST AFRICAN BRAIDING SALON IN RALEIGH!! Okay I hate to admit it but I am a repeat customer at YoYo's African Braiding World on South Wilmington. Out of 5 times, my first experience was the only good one. I went to YoYo the first time to get some Senegalese the braids were very nice they were done by some younger girls. The second time i went to her new shop on 1629 Ronald Dr. Ste 101, and had a horrible experience. The very next day my Senegalese started untwisting!!! I called YoYo to see if I could have them done over she was like that would be 90$. I talked with her and was like why do i have to pay 90$ for something ya'll did not do right the first time? She told me to come back in and she will look at them. I got there she picked through my hair did the unraveled ones over dipped them in water etc. A few more days passed same results more unraveling, so i just tried my best t twist them back up and hide them amongst the better braids. I said i would never go to that shop again no matter how much better it looked than the old shop. I took those braids out in ab 2 months. I went BACK to her old shop, where i got my hair dont the 1st time, hoping to get the same results that i did the first time, and that was a FAIL! I told them about my experience at the last shop and they laughed and bad mouthed it told me i should have came there instead. However they were just as worse!! Instead of cutting the frizz off the braids; the woman took out a candle and started burning the frizz off. I was like something isn't right but I let it go because they are the PROFESSIONALS right? These braids were not the quality braids i got the first time and i told myself that i would never get any braids there ever agin. Some time went by on my natural journey, and I decided to get a protective style a sew in. I called YoYo and asked her how much it would cost she told me 90$ i said ok so i went and bought some relative expensive hair. Going there was WORST DECISION ever. It took the 5 hours to do one sew-in and then they charged me 100$ instead of 90$ despite what YoYo said they refused to take 90$. I was REALLY frustrated already!! 5 hours then they charge me 10$ more, so i walked out and forgot my hair. My hair only lasted me a week and 3 days!! My braids started to come out and the tracks were hanging while attached to the falling braid. I called YoYo and i told her about the experience and she offered to do my hair for half off NEXT TIME. I told myself that there would not be a NEXT TIME. I did not plan on going back there until I remembered that I left a whole pack of hair there. I retuned to collect my tracks, 10" Sassy color #2 and they told me that they dont remember doing my hair o_O! I walked out and came straight to this computer to write this review. Half off YoYo? Oh no ma'am you will not get any more of my money.
Braids came undone, the same day! – Where do I start! I went by the shop a few days ahead of time so I could inquire about the cost of the Senegalese twist I wanted. I wanted them longer than usually, so I wanted to get a quote. Yo Yo told me $210, once I told her I was going to shop around she quote me $180. So I made the appointment. When I came for my appointment she was late. We had to go over the “$180” price again. It was like the first conversation about length and cost never happen.
Within the first hour after my braids were finish, I noticed my braids I just paid $180, were starting to come undone. So I called the shop and asked if I should come back tonight or tomorrow. Yo Yo told me to come back tomorrow.
I went back to the shop, I waited and waited. Yo Yo finally came over to acknowledge me; Yo Yo kept saying what did, I do, because this never happens. Yo Yo insisted I had to do something to cause the problem. Yo Yo kept saying she will fix the problem, but I couldn’t have any of money back. So I asked her if I experience the same problem in a couple of days, what will happen then. Yo Yo raised her voice and told me not to talk to her like a child. One of the other customers started to talk to her about the situation, how she was wrong and needed to listen to my concerns about my hair. Yo Yo really started to get mad. One of the other sytlist came over and offered to fix my hair for free. God Bless Natalie and the other customer for stepping up in the situation!
All I can say is beware of Yo Yo Braiding, if you are unhappy with the work be prepare to be treated like a kid. I will never go back to her shop again for braids. Sorry this is so long, but service was that bad.
Side note: I must say the other ladies in the shop was very friendly, I would hate for their business to decline because the owner doesn’t know how to treat people.
BEWARE – It took me 9 1/2 hours to undo the mess they made of my kinky twists. The roots of the braids were knotted together which made it hard to remove. BTW while I was getting this jacked up hair do, a guy came in and inquired about having his hair braided. Yo Yo told him it would be $80. He said ok, I'll come back later. She said, I'll do it for $50 NOW! He left anyway. Wise choice.
Went to YoYo's new shop at 1629 Ronald Dr. Ste 101 – This is Yo-Yo's new shop and I love it. It is extremely clean, very spacious, and the women do a great job with my locks. Yo-Yo always listens to what I want and will use any product I bring or ask for. Great place to start or maintain locks, or get any other hairstyle offered (Natural braids, cornrows, Senegalese Twist, Microbraids, etc etc.)
Also, Yo-Yo's is now offering deals for new and repeat customers. Check this new place out!
ANY COMPLAINTS?? IF SO.... – IF YOU HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS, PLEASE CONTACT THE BOARD OF COSMETIC ARTS @ 919-733-4117, YOUR CLAIMS WILL BE RESOLVED!!!
The Worst! – This place is a mess.. I made an appt to get Senegalese twist and the lady told me I could come at 8am on Sat. When I got there, there was a long line of people waiting to get their hair braided. One person pulled on the door to find out that it was never locked from the night before. This place was a mess! There was hair everywhere. On the tables, chairs and on the floor! All the products were left open on the table. We thought the place had been robbed so we stayed outside. The business didn't open until 10AM and my braider showed up 3 hours late and then worked on my hair for 1 hr before taking a lunch break. The owner has a bad ass 3 yr old that runs around the shop. Crying all the time. And playing like he is on a playground! He is the worst! And he is ALWAYS there!! Oh yea, and you will have to get your hair braided in front of a huge window so be prepared to get stared at.
