Today my fiancé and I went to Subaru of Gwinnett to look at a WRX. We need a more family friendly car for trips but still want a vehicle that is fun to drive. When we arrived, Lance Willhite introduced himself. We told him we were interested in the WRX and he showed us over to the sedan and hatchback. He seemed nice, but unknowledgeable about the vehicle. He asked us multiple times if we were planning to purchase today, to which we replied no, because we have to sell our other car first. Another customer came over to Lance while he was with us and they talked for a while. Afterward Lance seemed very much in a rush to be finished with us. We asked for a test drive and he seemed reluctant to allow it. Eventually he asked for my fiancé’s license. He went inside the dealership then came back out immediately, said it was too busy for a test drive, gave us the license back, then went to help the customer who had talk to him a few minutes earlier.
I went inside to speak with the sales manager who said that a lot of people want to test drive the WRX because they are fast, to which I replied that we drive a 400hp Mustang 5.0, so to us the WRX is a family car, not a race car. He then said he would try to get someone else to help us, but it may be a while.
I understand they were busy, but this is America. Discrimination is illegal. Just because the other customer was older, dressed nicely, and white does not give the sales man the right to leave us standing in the middle of the parking lot so that he can help someone who he deems more likely to purchase a car.
In the Subaru Responsibility policy, adherence to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all business transactions is listed first. Unfortunately, this standard was not upheld today at Gwinnett Subaru.
My fiancé and I are using our connections and contacts in the "car enthusiast community" to spread the word of this unacceptable treatment. The WRX is a wonderful vehicle. We will purchase one for our family, but it will not be from Gwinnett Subaru.
