Roscoe's is a Boystown staple, a beacon in the gay community, but it's good for everyone. Boys, girls, boys and girls, anyone!

A young and fun gay bar that's a popular hangout for people watching. The space is small, but you can stretch out on the dance floor and move back to the pool hall area for private conversation.

they need to be more open to other rasis at the door – On Sunday August 8, 2010 at approximately 11:30pm i decided to invite my friend to Rosco's bar where i never had a problem feeling discriminated by the color of my skin. On that Sunday i felt so singled out cause my friend had a Mexican id that looked exactly like him. your door Security Bob took his id and did not even try to give us the opportunity to get it back. he said "you tried this before, same thing every week." Bob was speaking to my friend in English and got upset cause he could not answer his question in English. i tried to step in and Bob ignored me and kept asking his question in English." I told Bob that my friend did not speak English. after he told us to wait out side, i told Bob i was ashamed of this treatment and i was upset. I gave him my business card and said i was going to come back for that id, i promise. he said "Well, if you want your friends id come back with the police." I called the police but as you know it was clean up time on Haulsted after the Market day event. Unfortunately, we had to call it a night. he had his passport in his hotel in Joliet Il. We where not able to enjoy the night cause of the discriminative action your security guard took that night. How would you feel if your friend came from another country and he or she was embarrassed by a unprofessional security guard that did not think twice of his racist action. we did pick up the id's the next day, and the sad part of if was your manage after comparing the id's with the same names and addresses, he told us to wait for the police and your manager did not not even apologize after the police returned the id's. I am ashamed of the actions your establishment has taken and i hope you take this mater serious.

A really great place – I noticed there wasn't any updated reviews of this bar. I was made to feel very welcome. The music was fine; both patrons and bartenders were friendly. I highly recommend it.

Needs Improvement – Everything you hear about this bar is true...both positive and negative. It is a fun bar if you tend to skew younger and are from the suburbs. I don't understand why that phenomenon occurs, but it is true. It can be fun if you want to go with your (younger) friends and shoot some pool or dance. As with bars that attract that age demographic, they do tend to overcharge for drinks, not to mention a cover (a cover!!!) on weekends. I frequented Roscoe's 10 years ago when I lived in the burbs, and immediately found myself repulsed by it as soon as I moved to the city. $5.25 for a mixed drink in a small plastic cup is unacceptable. A cover charge to simply enter the bar on the weekends (when none of their neighbooring competitiors do so) is unacceptable. They have a dance floor, but are by no means a dance "club". The bar is poorly layed out, doesn't appear to have been updated in decades, and has a stifling ventilation system. On crowded nights, you will find yourself pushing your way toward the back/middle part of the bar (before you enter the dance floor) to stand under the ceiling fan...or invoking the ultimate option and simply leaving.

The above are not bitter, catty musings, but informed observations from a Chicago native who has frequented many estabilshments. I'm merely offering some advice for improvement to a Chicago mainstay that needs a little work.

Great for happy hour – Roscoe's defines the epicenter of gay Chicago, being located at Roscoe & Halsted (that epicenter is migrating in recent years, however). The bar boasts some of the hottest tenders in the area, while still being friendly too. They don't pour the greatest however, but beauty before brains ;-) j/k guys. Roscoe's is probably best outside of the late night times. It's especially fun Sunday afternoons in the summer.

great bar – If you?re in your twenties or thirties Roscoe?s is probably the best gay bar to meet people in the Boystown area. It?s a pretty fun spot. I highly recommend getting trashed Sunday afternoons during the long island iced tea special. Very fun. There is some attitude at the bar during busy nights. Overall the bar is a bit small, but it?s the best around so enjoy it!!

horrible staff – picture this: you leave your personal belongings in the bar, they close the place down, you go back to get your items, and the whole staff is screaming "we can't open the door and give you your things"....meanwhile, saying "get them tomorrow" while waving the stuff in front of your face...bottom line- a bunch of washed up men who see their position as a bartender or bar staff as a means of showing some misguided perception of success and/or authority...remember ladies....you are still running a business and you just made your establishment look like yourself....tired...go back to school..find something that makes you happy and allows your patrons to feel happy too...

the truth hurts..

Twenty-something boys and those who love them gather at this Lakeview bar to drink, dance and cruise. – The Scene
The bar is divvied up into four distinct areas: The front bar serves as a comfortable spot for chatting, flirting and watching videos, while the side bar has a more languid vibe. Men ogle each other and gyrate to house tunes on the back dance floor, while there's always a game in the adjacent pool room. The pleasant, cruisy outdoor cafe serves burgers, bratwurst, chicken sandwiches and corn dogs.

The Draw
Roscoe's plays a high-energy mix of dance videos from the likes of Britney Spears, 'NSync, Madonna and whoever else 12-year-olds and gay men are listening to. The bar loves to experiment with high-maintenance drinks, such as chocolate martinis with lush liquers and powered rims, and sometimes features specials like a free hors d'oeuvres buffet. The crowd ranges from gym rats in athletic gear to slim gay men in their 20s and 30s wearing tight clothes.

Good Times – I think that Roscoe's is one of the funnest bars in Chicago! If you are either a gay man or a woman that loves them you will have a good time. Drinks are Great, Music is Kicken, and the croud is always outgoing and inviting.

Sunday is the best night – Cant beat $10 pitchers of Long Island Iced Tea. Other than that, stick to the other bars.

I'm a Roscoe Ho – Well what can I say this is the bar with the youngest crowd and the cutest boiz. Although the crowd varies little with alot of the regulars stopping in, this bar is still the probably the best Chicago has to offer. The measured drinks are bit ridiculous but whatever, because the pitchers on Fridays and Sundays more then make up for the weaker mixed drinks. One or two pitchers and even the biggest drinker will be buzzin hard. =)
