Joy East – I give the food a 3.5 out of 5 but the food poisoning I got lowers the overall score. I think it might have been the shrimp and fried rice. Buffet food is usually low quality but I expected a little more after hearing such rave reviews.
I LOVE THIS BUFFETT – Well as a native Chinese I think those Chinese food are good very good!! But I think the price was a bit expensive and not all Chinese food in there there are some Ameican fried food and Japanese food (Sushi).
Mediocre food, overworked wait staff, Customer NOservice Manager. Dingy dining area full of day laborers, blue collar, and kids – A plate & tea is going to run you about $10. If you are adventurous and enjoy buffet slumming, you are at the right place. The place is huge and sits A LOT of people, so expect LOTS of people there. There is quite a big selection of different types of food, unfortunately it is mostly mediocre quality at best. (IMO, the wonton soup is the best thing there) Manager is proficient in customerNOservice, so don't expect any of your issues to be resolved by him; he will say he is too busy or say he can do nothing due to company policy. Lastly, the wait staff to table ratio is low, they appear over worked so IF YOU MUST patron this establishment, I recommend when you are first introduced to your waitress to ask for the following: TWO glasses of water, FOUR napkins, THREE forks, and the BILL.
In the past, had visited this establishment for the last 5 years (about 50 visits total) and seen it go down hill. Sept 2008 was the last time I went and I will never go back.
OMFG, I wish I had just gone home and ate a sandwich. – Absolutely awful. I wish i could say I tried everything on the buffet, but the signs that declared they would "charge double for excessive waste" scared me away... what i tried was either tasteless or downright inedible, with the bizarre exception of the enchiladas (wtf?). As if the incessant techno music they play wasn't enough, now I was worried that if I didn't like the COMPLETELY UNLABELED food I had chosen, I would be charged for it. The place is LITERALLY crawling with children, most of which can be found running around the buffet, haranguing other guests. The best thing I can say about the restaurant was that the staff was attentive, but even then, I had to wait for my "waitress" to finish her celphone call before I got my bill. I tried to speak to a manager and was told he was "too busy". Avoid this place at all costs- you can make better food at home with La Choy canned food, just go buy it at the HEB next door. I only wish i could give a lower rating than 1 star.
Great Place Good Eats – I love Joy East. When I first moved to Austin Joy East was the first chinese restaurant I ate at I have tried others which were ok but I I always find myself right back at J.E enjoy all my favorite dishes. The services are top notch they never let my tea or soda get empty. All the waitress and waiters are very well mannered and extremly polite. The crawfish or crawdads, egg rolls, fried rice, and soups are just a few of my favorites that I recommand to all who want to try this place.
Not good – I could not finish the entire plate and it was only chow mein, fiend rice and oange chicken, I was full by the time I ate the second part of my dish. They obviously put something in the food to temporarily fill you up the waitresses ae dressed in booty shorts and there is too many illegals dining there.
Waste of money! Never again.
best place too eat in austin texas !!! bring the family too. – the joy east by the riverside on the barrio area of austin texas is one of the best places in the texas region too have something too eat.
the atmosphere is good, the waitress/waiters are pleasant and prompt...
the icetea is great.

the food is tremendous and pleasant.
great franchise opportunity too.
Terribly terrible – Wow. I don't know what there is to say about this place other than it's the worst. It may be cheap, but I personally don't think cheap food is worth spending days hovered over the toilet ralphing your brains out. Avoid it. The only review I've seen of this place that hits the nail on the head is at That Other Paper.
