Horrible, Filthy, Rude – This place needs to be shut down. I went in for a fill yesterday and they completely destroyed my nails. I don't know the gal's name but she was rude and got really pissed of when she filed my nail down to bed and I yelped in pain. She was rough and just basically did a horrible job. The place is filthy. I'm surprised they didn't have rats running around. When I went to wash my hands there were a bunch of dirty dishes piled up in the hallway along w/ of old food. It looked like they just dumped buckets of trash. It smelled really bad. I'm going to contact the Health Department to see if they can inspect them or something. Someone is going to get an infection from that place.
I love this place! – I can't believe all the hating about Tips and Toes! I do agree that Lee is the best and it's very sad that he's out of the country, but I get great service there all the time! You may have to say what you want, but they are nice and friendly and will work with you! Plus, it's right next to Massage Harmony... bonus!
DO NOT GO HERE- NOT WORTH THE TORTURE!!! – I have been going here for years and I usually have Tweety of Lee do my nails. Tweety has not been working much and Lee is out of the country currently. They told me to see Jennifer. Jennifer screwed my cuticles up SO BAD, by the time I left, 6 out of 10 of my cuticles were bleeding and in intense pain. She then put alcohol on them to get them to stop bleeding- let's just say I almost passed out from the intense pain. I didn't say anything until a few days had passed and I went back in and she told me "sorry I hurt you" and that was it. I wanted more than that and she said she would have the owner call me. That never happened. It has now been a week and my cuticles are still crusted over with blood and they hurt terribly. My step daughter, my mom and me all went there and probably gave them over $400 dollars a month in business- they will no longer get this business and I will make sure I let everyone I know to NEVER go here again. So much for customer loyalty!!!
The rudest people in the world – So I go in there one day and there were five of them sitting around talking. I told them what I wanted done and they said they were too busy. What? There wasn't another customer in there. The place was filthy, too. I couldn't believe they were sending business away. I don't know how they stay in business at that shopping center. If you're in the neighborhood, go to Diamond Nails in the Brody Oaks Shopping Center (the one with Last Call, Texican, Chili's and Pok-E-Jo's). They are nice, speak English AND the place is sparkling clean.
Jennifer is awesome – I moved here some time ago from Houston. In Houston there are a lot of great nail salons - almost any one you go into is going to be at least good. I have not found that to be true in Austin - I've had a hard time finding a good nail place.
I get acrylic nails done and Jennifer is amazing - she is quick and she does them very thin and natural looking. I've gotten pedicures from her and they are average. I've had two other techs do my nails and one was horrible - really horrible and the other was the guy who works in there, I don't know his name, he's okay - he does a good job, but not great. I'd go to him for a manicure but not acrylic.
I highly recommend Jennifer - if she isn't available I don't know of anyone else I'd see in there.
Do not waste you're time or money going here. – After leaving the massage place massage harmony next door, my friends and I decided to go and get a mani pedi. Bad bad idea. My nail tech didn't completly remove my toenail polish, she clipped my cuticle so far on one toe it still hurts a day later, and her touch was so rough I was literally cringing. My friend was totally mortified when her manicurist used the same cuticle cutters she used on me (with my cuticles still in them), so gross. She also filed my nails really unevenly. My friend got her nails filled and one of them broke the same day. My toenail polish is already coming off one day later. Oh and to top it off, the manicurist's station said "Please tip in cash whenever possible". Talk about tacky. Definately not going back.
Ok, but not superb – I thought I was just going at the wrong time; I know Saturdays are busy, so I've just accepted the fact that they don't have time to really give a good manicure and pedicure. However, not long ago, I was able to get off work in time to go on a Friday afternoon. There weren't very many clients in there, so there was no excuse. This time, I'd get the full treatment! But, that was not the case. The pedicure was rushed - she did not massage the legs or feet. She didn't do the full treatment. I felt like I was in some kind of race to see how quickly it could be finished. There was time to do a manicure as well, but that was not any better. She did not file my nails; they were left ragged and had to be redone at home. She wouldn't shape them properly - even after being asked to make them a little more rounded. This place is ok if you need a touch up or are in a hurry. But, it's not a relaxing experience if you're really wanting to be pampered. Merely "ok".
horrible! – I went to this place based on other reviews.
We were barely greeted. The pedicure was OK.
But the manicure was HORRIBLE! The lady didn't even file my nails! When I left, I noticed that she hadn't completely removed my previous polish. The whole time they spoke amongst each other across the room, often stopped working on us to hold another conversation.
I would NOT recommend this place.
Best mani/pedi deal in town! – While I don't get my nails done too frequently, my four or five times a year has taken me to many salons around town. I've been to Tips and Toes several times for manicures and pedicures, and I keep going back! As a walk-in, they can usually work you in within 15-30 minutes even when very busy (like on a Saturday afternoon). It's easy to put your name on the list then pop into Borders or Bath and Body Works next door for a few minutes before coming back.
Every staff member I've worked with has done an excellent job. The pedicures are especially notable - mine always last weeks without a chip or getting dull, even in the summer. The $40-45 (including tip) mani/pedi price is a steal, especially since it includes a lower leg scrub/massage and a shoulder/neck massage.
Tips and Toes isn't a glamorous shop - it's a bit crowded, there's no spa ambience, and the small TV gets spotty reception. But the pedicure "thrones" are comfortable and there are always lots of magazines to read. Everything is clean and the staff are friendly. If you're looking for an unpretentious but efficient nail shop, this is your spot! They'll get you in, out, and looking good in about 40 minutes!
