Service was poor – Service: It took close to an hour for us to get our food. I am not exaggerating. The waiter apparently got our order wrong or forgot to put our order up altogether. More than 30 minutes after we placed our order another waiter came by to ask us what we ordered. Then yet a different waiter came by and asked us how our food us when we had not yet received our order.
Atmosphere: While it is pretty roomy, we went on a Friday night and there were a bunch of young (college-aged) loud people that made the atmosphere less than desirable for a couple looking to have a decent dinner. Perhaps it is different on a weeknight or earlier in the day.
Pricing: Average for Korean
Quality of Food: Low average to average.
Lots of fun, Would go back – I think this is the best Korean restaurant in town. The service is great and the food is always good. They have cooking grills on the tables and food comes with every type of kimchi you could imagine. I've never been disappointed going here and I know lots of military who say the food is comparable to being in Korea.
Average Korean BBQ – Forgoing our usual Korean restaurants in C-springs (Tong Tong or Seoul Restaurant), my wife and I decided to try a new Korean restaurant in town off somewhat of a dying part of Academy Blvd. The parking is off the street in the back. The atmosphere was decent as we walked in (plenty of seating) and were seated promptly.
Having lived in Cali for the past 4 years w/ access to plenty of good Korean restaurants and being Korean, I rate the food average. About seven side dishes were served, but the taste and selection was average. We ordered two types of BBQ meats (ju-mul-luk and tong gar-bi) and a spicy soup (yuk-gae-jang). I would recommend the tong gar-bi (short ribs), but would pass on the ju-mul-luk and soup. Both had somewhat of a stale taste (too much sesame oil?) - missing a clean taste.
The service was pretty good considering only one server (typical of most C-Springs Korean restaurants) and the prices for the meat orders were similar to other restaurants in town ($15-17) per person. I was actually impressed w/ the amount of meat we got.
Would I go again? Undecided - Yummy BBQ is next first.
Phenomenal, authentic Korean food and BBQ – I live in CA but always make it to Halla San when I'm in the Springs visiting family or friends. OC has some of the best Korean restaurants in the US and this one could sit among the best in the OC! The kimchee is top notch and the food preparation and service are second to none. My wife and I love getting the bbq since they grill it right at your table. They give you a ton of those tasty Korean side dishes and they have an extensive menu to choose from. For those who know Korean food, you'll be amazed at the selection of soups, noodle dishes and even duk-bokee (I don't think I spelled it right but it's those little rice cakes in a hot pepper sauce. YUM!)
If you live in the Springs, you're lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber in such a small city. The atmosphere is pretty cool. They have cooking tables and even traditional floor seating tables where you have to take off your shoes. Give it a try sometime. Lunch or dinner, it's a treat whenever I'm in town. Enjoy!
Excellent food; nice atmosphere. – Great food; good price; very nice atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restauraunt if you would like to try authentic Korean cuisine.
