Almost Your Mama's Kitchen ... – I've lived in Richmond my entire life and have sampled a good majority of what this city has to offer food-wise. Comfort is hands down the best restaurant in the River City. Not a birthday goes by that I don't find myself here. From it's scrumptious mashed potatoes to the delectable squash casserole, we are talking perfection here folks. And where else in this city can you get a whiskey list that tops 30+?! Sure, you will be paying more for mac n' cheese than you would out of a box ... but, isn't that the case with most eating out experiences? Stick to Golden Corral if these Southern sides are a bit pricey for you, topped off with a searing slice of vibrant city life. Comfort is well worth the wait and money spent.

What EXACTLY is comforting about a $40 bowl of macaroni and cheese? – DO NOT be another FOOL that will pay $17 for a piece of fried catfish and some slapped on sides that anyone with half a brain, a deep frier and $2 could make. A little math - how many pieces of catfish can you buy from your neighborhood grocery store with $17? If you said, oh, about SEVENTEEN youuuu're right! . But, if you must go, do NOT go with over 7 people! They force you to do family style and make you decide on 4 side dishes - even if you have 14 people. Hey lets make the beginning of the meal as difficult as getting a bunch of people to divide up a bill at the end of the meal. Yay! Then, if you want another side they charge you PER PERSON for an 'extra' side - totaling for us to almost forty dollars. Now the kicker - our vegetarian friend was charged TWELVE DOLLARS for an EMPTY PLATE! Ywes, 'tis true, they actually carried it out like it had food on it and presented it with the rest of the dishes. His 'dinner' of sides (their ONLY option for vegetarians) did not even allow him the option to choose his on sides - even though they are PRE MADE sides. When I suggested to the manager on duty that if you drop the 'per person' we essentially paid almost FORTY dollars for a bowl of macaroni and asked if they were proud to bring an empty plate to the table and then bring a bill, they got an attitude with me. Then when I mentioned the fact that I had waited for a beer because the bartender was filling up coffee mugs of beer for the kitchen they got a bigger attitude with me. And when their only excuse for forcing people to do family style was that they had kitchen capacity issues and I suggested that perhaps 'space' wasn't the only capacity issue back there, they asked me to leave. Hey, people hate the truth. Come on Richmond - I know your food options can get a little sparse at times - but don't be stupid enough to let this place go on ripping people a comforting new ***hole.

High Prices, but makes a good experience – Comfort has a great atmosphere and a wonderful menu. They take great southern classics and put in a swanky twist. Good portions. You will be pleased with the restaurant, but maybe not the price.

a MUST VISIT when in Richmond – "Comfort" is definitely what you will experience here. The food is excellent, the people that work there and own the place are truly wonderful people. I will always plan to make a stop there when I am in Richmond. Have spent hours there. Don't let the "outdoors" fool you. This is a jewel of a restaurant.

Good place for good food with flair – We've been to Comfort twice now during the week. We've never had to wait for a table. There were more people there the second time, and we were more aware of the noise level with a crowd, and the service was a little slower, but not bad. The menu looks basic, but everything is served with a twist, which gives it a little class. We love the sides - so many places treat vegetables as decoration, it's great to fine a place that gives them the showing they deserve. We've tried the trout, meatloaf, mahi, and a variety of the sides, and have only had a few hiccups. The second time there, the greens were served to both of us stone cold - another serving was promptly whisked out, and the waitress handled it well. The okra was not to my taste - it was a little overfried to crunchiness instead of moist - but thats just my palate. The banana pudding - which is really more like a creme brulee - is worth the calories! It's a great place when you're looking to casually drop in for a good home cooked meal that has flair.

Worth the wait – Since moving to Richmond we've been looking for interesting and individual restaurants with great food and good atmosphere. We definitely found both of these at Comfort. It's a little out of place (we couldn't see much else of interest near-by), but the ambience inside is one of 'the place to be'. We had to wait some time for a table (I don't know if they accept reservations) but there was a great bar and good music, with ample opportunity for people-watching. The food was really fab (the au gratin potatoes were to die for), and we loved the drinks in jars! I liked the style of ordering - you choose your entree (e.g. salmon), they tell you how it's cooked and then you pick a couple of side dishes. Great way to try a variety of things if you're with people who'll share!

Best Side Dishes EVER. – This is my new favorite restaurant in Richmond. The parking can be a challenge and the neighborhood is definitely in flux, but don't be scared, what's inside is definitely worth the effort! the service is outstanding, the food is fabulous. They do a wonderful job with fish, chicken, meatloaf, pork loin, pretty much everything. But their sides are where they really shine. Their mac'n'cheese can be off or on, but the squash casserole, green beans, mashed potatoes and sweet potato puree are awesome. and my friends who eat such things tell me that their fried okra is also wonderful. Their banana pudding dessert is much more like a creme brulee than a classic pudding over 'nilla wafers. Seating gets more challenging every night of the week after 6:15. Lunches are also lovely.

One of the best in Richmond – One of my favorite places to eat in Richmond. Just feel like ordering sides? Go for it. Fried catfish is great, not greasy, and oh, did I mention the sides? Atmosphere is nice but comfortable. As mentioned before, the location may not be the best, but it's well worth the trip.

Go Early! – Comfort was recommended to us by a shopworker at a gourmet boutique in Carytown, while on a visit to Richmond. We were looking for something different from the plastic suburban chain restaurants that are always recommended by hotel staff.

Comfort is located in a not so savory section of town, but totally worth it to find something special! Homestyle southern cooking in a cool atmosphere. I had the roasted chicken which was marvelous, the seasonings were divine and meat was moist and tender. The sides are incredible. My husband had the fried catfish, which was absolutely the best. The coating was crisp and not at all greasy. Decor is spartan with original artwork throughout

Sweet tea is served in a mason jar! As yankees, we really enjoyed the new tastes and excellent service at Comfort. GO EARLY! Place fills up by 7pm and thats on a Tuesday night.
