Recently, I bought a pair of New Balance shoes from Republic Shoes in the University Hills Shopping Center and within a week noticed that they were defective. Upon trying to return the shoes for a refund I was told that this was not their policy. I was told that they would try and find something else that would work.
While this was going on, I asked if since the shoes were defective, would they return them to New Balance and get a refund? I was told by the store owner that they would receive a full refund from New Balance for their investment. I asked then since that was the case, if I could receive a refund and be on my way. He denied me a refund, I even offered to pay a restocking fee of at least 15% to cover their shipping costs and the time that they worked with me. Keep in mind that I paid $180.00 total for these shoes, which means I would have just given them $27.00 for their time. I was denied that and told that I would just get a store credit if I could not find anything suitable.
This was frustrating since that meant they would keep my money and not have earned it by giving me anything I could wear. I was polite and said that I just wanted to make it a win win and this did not work either. The store owner then just walked away from me while an employee continued to try and find a pair of shoes for me. I let the employee know that I could just return the defective shoes and contest the charge with my credit agency, this is when he became loud and rude and stated, " You can try that but it'll never work, that never works for anybody." I explained to him that I don't have the finances to just take a credit and go somewhere else for shoes at which point he said, "Well it sounds like you need a better job or at least need to find some side work."
In the end I settled for a pair of shoes which retail from New Balance at $140.00 and a *free* pair of insoles which would make them fit more comfortably. The sales associate said he would just be, "...giving these insoles away to me...a value of thirty nine dollars ... I am just giving you thirty nine dollars." I asked if the shoes he just gave me in exchange retail for the same amount and he told me that they did. Let's do some math now and compare $140.00 to $180.00.
This experience is disappointing for a couple of reasons, one is that my initial visit was pleasant and I was made to feel welcome and was told that I was going to be taken care of, no matter the circumstance should the shoe not work out, by the owner. My follow up visit was a Jekyll and Hyde experience, having the owner treat me with indifference and neglect. C'mon, I offered to give him money even though they will be getting a full refund on the defective product.
Oh and by the way, I was told I was not allowed to leave the store with the replacement shoes and original purchase receipt. Even though it is a carbon copy of which they still retain the original. Just a tad shady in my opinion, I would've needed it in order to contest it with my credit agency. Why did I not contest it? I need some shoes on my feet, and I just don't have any more time for this nonsense.
I will never return to this store and will ensure that local residents are aware of their poor return policy and downright rude ownership and sales staff. I was not getting my money back so I settled, next time I need shoes I will be shopping elsewhere.
Bad first impressions are hard to fix – Called Republic Shoes on the phone to make sure I had the right address and hours. Whoever answered the phone hung up on me. Called back, asked my question again, this time slowly, so I could be understood. The guy answering the phone answered me back real slowly as well, spelling out each word and number.
Paid a visit the next day anyway, since their website lists the shoes I was interested in looking at. Drove all the way down to the store, in a crappy old strip mall on CO Blvd. Their return policy is no cash back, but they will try to figure out another pair of their shoes to put you in.
This is a reason why old time stores are out of business in favor of competition with selection and more reasonable return policies. Did not purchase a pair of shoes and glad I didn't.
A spectacular place with all sizes in stock!!! – All I can say is that you NEED to see for yourself how great this shoe store is! I never knew they even existed until I happened to walk by the store and decided to walk inside. The best choice I have EVER made! They greet you and help you with everything from start to finish not to mention that they have knowledgeable sales help that can answer any questions that you may have. I left feeling very satisfied and all the shoes that I needed! I am now a new customer for life!!!!! WELL DONE REPUBLIC SHOES!!!!!
THE BEST SHOES STORE IN THE WORLD!!! – I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN? I HAVE HAD A HARD TIME FINDING SHOES THAT FIT ME FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS FAMILY OWNED SHOES STORE FROM A FRIEND AND THOUGHT I WOULD JUST TRY THEM OUT. HANDS DOWN THE BEST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD, NOT TO MENTION THEY HELP YOU WITH EVERYTHING! THEY EVEN PUT SHOES ON YOUR FEET FOR YOU!!! I WILL NEVER SHOP ANY WHERE ELSE AND THE QUALITY/STYLES ARE AMAZING! YOU MUST GIVE THEM A TRY YOU WILL BE IN FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I WOULD GIVE REPUBLIC SHOES A 10 STAR RATING BUT 5 WAS ALL CITY SEARCH OFFERED.
nightmare! – This store would not give a refund on Saturday for shoes that were ordered by phone (not yet picked up) on Friday night! I ended up with store credit and had a REALLY hard time finding something else. This was after buying 3 other pair of shoes from them on Friday. No sense of customer appreciation at all!!! Additionally, many, many of their shoes are discontinued styles and brands, all sold at an elevated FULL PRICE. I was appalled! Will never set foot in this store again.
Best Shoes, Huge Selection, All Sizes and Widths, Great and Friendly Help! – I am in awe of this shoe store! I Found it in the phone book and I am soooo glad I did! I walked in with feet problems and many other issues and concerns. Let me tell you after I left I was like a new woman! The whole experience at Republic Shoes was 5 stars in my book. No shoe store has ever been able to help me with my horrible feet problems until now. I have been in and out of other shoe stores for many years and was going to possibly have foot surgery. I am glad I waited because having good quality shoes and the proper fit, really did improve my feet. Take it from me. I would of never believed it myself but it is true, I went into Republic Shoes in pain and discomfort and left with a smile on my face and on my feet. I will continue to go back to Republic Shoes for all of my shoe needs.....They also have great handbags:) I love knowing that when I go into Republic Shoes I don't need to worry about a thing, they have everything covered. I don't generally brag about stores, but REPUBLIC SHOES is hands down the best shoe store I have ever been to!
My Feet Love This Store! – I am on my feet all day and needed some help finding a perfect fit The wonderful sales people at Republic hooked me up with a pair of clogs that our super stylish and comfortable. Even gave me the behind the scenes scoop on shoe making of that particular brand. Interesting, entertaining and all around great neighborhood shop!
Diamond in the Rough....Awesome Shoe Store! – Look no further! This is it guys and gals:) I recently found out about this shoe store from a friend of mine. I have lived in Denver nearly my whole life and just now found out about this Awesome Shoe Store! I bought several great men's shoes in my SIZE. YES THEY HAD MY SIZE!!! I wear size 17 in men's shoes....sometimes I can wear size 16. Republic Shoes had my size and different choices to choose from. The help I received was great and they measured my foot to make sure I was fitted properly. I feel so lucky. I was never able to find shoes in my size that I liked or that was in stock, I always had to special order shoes I did not like and I had no idea if they would fit? I am done searching, Republic Shoes is "MY" new shoe store....I think everyone should check them out, you won't be disappointed! Great location and easy parking. No more fighting with mall traffic and parking spots.
BEST SHOE STORE EVER.....IT'S ON THE TOP OF MY LIST!!! – From the moment you walk in you are greeted by professional and courteous salesmen! The selection is amazing and to top it off they have every size and every width in STOCK! I can't tell you how many times I have been to different shoe stores or department stores and have to help myself and answer my own questions as if I work there. If I wanted them to measure my foot, they would look at me as if I was a tourist speaking a foreign language. Not at Republic Shoes, they answered every question I had, measured my feet and helped me try on all of the shoes that I picked out. Every one is entitled to their own opinion, but I read the rating about the "bad return policy" and disagree with that comment and rating. When I am on a mission about buying shoes I want three things, good service, big selection, and knowledgeable salesmen.....period. I have been a customer of Republic Shoes for years now and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else to buy my shoes.
Bad Return Policy – If you buy shoes here, be very sure you love them, especially if you have hard-to-fit feet. They actually specialize in the hard to fit, but if you get home, wear them indoors for an hour to test them, and find out they hurt, don't expect to return them for a refund. They will give you a store credit - BUT the remaining selection may not be to your liking, and then the clock starts ticking. I came back 3 times during the 12 months following my cursed purchase and didn't like anything. I finally bought a pair I didn't love just to use the darn credit. And wouldn't you know, I still had $20 left over in credit and they still wouldn't give me even that amount! Plus I found the same exact pair at another store for $20 less (not on sale)!!
Bottom line. Limited selection of quality shoes that are overpriced AND a bad return policy. Shop Nordstrom instead. So much for trying to support a small local business.
