Bright colors and comfortable furniture give this chain cafe a laid-back feel, with scattered tables that beckon coffee-sipping readers, chatters and diners. All baked goods--bagels, muffins, two dozen kinds of bread--are made fresh on the premises. Sandwiches include turkey-artichoke panini and Asiago roast beef, plus standards like chicken salad and smoked turkey. Soups change daily, but popular choices like broccoli and cheese, chicken noodle and French onion are always on the menu.

Have it your way. All Panera shops are terrific. At first, the board menu is intimidating - everything sounds good! You can mix and match the bread, filling, topping to suit yourself. My favorite is the Roast Beef on Asiago bread with horseradish sauce. Can only eat 1/2. Soup and 1/2 sandwich is good value. Best part is that you can buy the same breads to take home. The soups and salads are outstanding too. A combo with salad is available too. The Danish rolls are way too good! Local companies build their weekly "Bagel Day" around this place.
