Wonderful brunch!. My family has eaten at Downtown Cafe numerous times. We love to eat on the patio as it reminds us of living in Europe. The brunches are pricey but amazing! When we want to splurge on brunch, this is the only place we'll go!

Metal in my soup!!. I am a huge fan of french onion soup so I figured I would give this a try. The waitstaff warned me that they "bake" it in the microwave... Actually, the soup wasn't bad until I found a piece of metal in it. I told the waitstaff and she said "oh that came off the grill, Im sorry!" and offered to bring me another soup... I declined for obvious reasons. I get my sandwich and it was as if I was licking a block of salt. Completely inedible. My bill for a 1/2 sandwich, cup of soup (with a side of metal), and an ice water was $9. When I went up to pay my bill, the owner was actually the one to cash me out. When he asked me how everything was, I politely told him of my experience. He said, "oh yeah, she told me about the metal. It was a piece of the scrubber that they use to clean the dirty pans. It happens every once in a while." Eww. as if that was supposed to put me at ease. As if not offering a discount nor an apology was bad enough, I looked over at a waitress delivering more french onion soup to another table... they didnt even throw it away. The food was not only gross but dangerous as well and the owner was downright unprofessional. Avoid this place!!!

Hair in my Michigan pancakes. We unfortunately will not be going back to this location to eat. My mother pulled a hair out of her mouth, put in on the plate and returned the Michigan Pancakes, then promply requested the pancake to be remade. The waitress returned with a new pancake and no apologies - sort of strange, but whatever. Then we received the bill, and noticed that the order was not removed. We asked for the order to be removed from the bill. The waitress explained that since the pancake was remade, the order could not be removed. When we asked to speak to a manager, the chef came out (the owner was not present), quickly requested if the "food was enjoyed" and proceeded to explain that since the order was remade they would not remove the item from the bill!!! Almost made us think that this is a common occurrance. Can you believe this???? I would expect to pay for something if it was sent back for a personal taste and returned to our liking. However paying for something that was sent back with someone elses HAIR??? Give me a break!! Poor poor customer service!!!!!!!!!!!

Great food.. Food, service and prices were great. Best part is the unusual menu of interesting foods...like one of the many specials the day I went: chocolate raspberry pancakes, and clam chowder that couldn't be called a soup...it was so thick with great stuff it could have been served on a plate.

Small, but clean and a great place to just relax with good food. Comfortable wooden chairs.

Great cafe for a relaxing breakfast or lunch.. Great little cafe for a relaxed meal. Prices are very reasonable. Staff are friendly and polite, and service is excellent. Tim's the manager and he's done a great job with the menu. Recommend the turkey reuben. Good stuff. The cafe is popular with the locals at lunchtime on weekdays, and also for breakfast on the weekends. Nice place to unwind and watch the world go by for a while. Stop by for a meal if you're ever in Rochester. They're located on the east side of Rochester Road at the north end of town, just north of Pier 1 imports. Enjoy!
