Great place if you get the right therapist... – My husband and I were traveling through Chicago and had long layovers in both directions. On the day of our departure I got a massage from a young Polish man. I couldn't completely understand his name but I believe it's something like Cirpin. He was excellent and in fact gave one of the best backrubs I've ever had. He relieved soreness in my neck that I'd had for months that several other therapists could not help with. His touch was strong but gentle. I felt like a new person afterwards.
On the way home, I was excited to get another massage from him. Unfortunately for me, he was not working that night. I decided to try another person, a middle aged man with a strong accent. (I didn't get his name.) This was very possibly the worst massage I've ever had! I felt like he was beating me up and I'm still in pain 3 days later! I definitely should have asked him to slow down and relax and I'm thoroughly regretting that I did not. He pushed and pulled me in so many different directions, seemingly as fast as he could. I think I may actually have some bruises.
So, just be careful who you get and if you happen to be there at a time when the man from Poland is working, it's your lucky day!
Great after a long flight – After a long flight, a visit to the Backrub Hub is definitely called for.
I felt so much better after a visit to there after my return flights from Rome both last year and this year - each of which were ten hours long. The soreness and pain of sitting on a plane for over ten hours straight were massaged away by the people who work there.
Massage chairs provide relaxing refuge in America's busiest airport. – The Scene
Next to the security checkpoint/exit area in O'Hare's Terminal Three, this small, locally owned kiosk shares retail space with national chains like Chili's and Sunglass Hut. Unlike them, however, BackRub Hub doesn't technically have a store, rather an alcove outfitted with tall, self-standing cabinets that separate professional massage chairs. A smattering of lotions and other easily transportable personal-care items await purchase atop a counter at front.
As the business name and simple set-up suggest, upper-body massages constitute the extent of the offerings. They're skillfully administered by licensed massage therapists in final-boarding-call-friendly increments-- ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. Stressed business-travelers and anxious vacationers have their necks, shoulders and backs kneaded without having to remove their clothing or fuss with appointments. Management claims that loyal passenger-clients schedule layovers here--instead of Atlanta--in order to indulge in this unique airport amenity.
