A place I feel at home! – I started going to Blackwatch in 1994 with my brother to watch Our beloved Deutschland in the world cup. I grew fond of the place as I grew older, food is good during the day, traditional Pub fare. Now I am a regular during the week, I don't go as often now, as money is tight, but its a great place for me, what I do like is there' lots of regulars, and many new people who fit right in, Tattoo artists, Dart players, dancers, Hotel/restaurant workers, Claremont college kids, everyone fits it, the fri/sat bar girl, is terrible, but Autumn rules from Sun-thurs, and the day girl/s seem ok. nice, relaxing hangout.
Excellent KIck Back Pub! – The first time I went to the Black Watch Pub was so many years ago to play darts once with a friend. This a is a great place for that by far!
Fastforward 8-10 years and My Band gets booked to play their. We are a band that does almost all originals. I have to say as a musician that I like this places integrity. We played for a percentage, and what we got seemed very inline with what I saw. After so many stories of friends that say that got ripped off at other places that were busy all night and then gave the band $60, This place was reassuring. The beer selection was very good, the prices reasonable, and the people very affable.
Now if you are reading this post before Oct 4th 2008, then come out and see us there at the Black Watch and see if everyhting I say isn't true. The band is Sugar Penny and I am a singer/guitar player in the band.
IF a couple of you show up I may by you a beer! (if a hundred do I can't!)
just ok... – Ive been there twice. I was realy looking forward to finding a lounge bar in the ontario area, because i generaly have to drive to LA to find a decient Bar...
the first time was pretty great except the fact that if people werent pumping quarters into the jukebox the atmosphere went dead as a doornail. a nice strategy to make money, but it was kind of anoying most the place seemed to be content to let me and my brother pay for the music all night.
The second time i went with my girlfriend, and aparently it was 'gay night' or something. Nothing but men holding hands and stuff, which is cool with us, gay bars are some of the best hang outs in LA. But we got a lot of discouraging looks here from most people for being the only straight couple. It was just a very unwelcome atmosphere so we were out after one beer.
The atmosphere is of a very worn-in pub. Not dirty, but its deffinetely been there a while. The second time we went they were sold out of most there taps, either that or they were trying to get rid of us. It was very strange the contrast between my two visits...
anyway, it seems to be the best 'lounge' bar in the ontario/upland area, but that may be because there is practicaly no competition. I doubt ill ever go back. I'd rather drive 45 mins to "The bigfoot lodge" where the atmosphere is amazing, and the service is always top-notch. The Black Watch is just not worth it. I dont go to pubs that often, maybe once or twice a month, so when i do, I want a great experience for my money. Guess ill keep driving to LA...
Cool hang-out – Last night was my first time there and it was pretty fun. The drinks were cheap and the service was pretty good. The best is the darts in the back. Alwasy fun. They have one pool table, but it gets kind of tight. I would recommend at least trying it out, see if it's your type of place.
The best Pub in town – This place is just cool. The bands are sometimes cover bands but soemtimes you can find an original that is just wonderful !! YOu can drink , smoke, and just be yourself. The staff is strict with under age kids but they should be . The people are friendly , the staff is friendly and so are the regulars. It's just a dark place to hide out for the night.
Editorial Review – Fun-loving, mini-mall British pub boasts broad range of ale on tap, weekend live music sets, darts and single pool table.
Best fish and chips around – To be a regular at this place is to get it. They say the test of a great pub is longevity. I've been going to this place for nearly 20 years as have most of it's regulars. Loads of great people to talk to. The staff is super friendly. The place rocks on Friday and Saturday nights with the live bands. Sunday, soccer lads dominate the scene. Fun place to go have a few pints and some authentic British food.
Great bar!!!! – This bar has great service and an outstanding atmosphere. The live bands on the weekend gives this bar a unique atmosphere. And best of all a great selection of beer on tap makes this my favorite local drinking hole in the weekday or/and weekend.
