Warning! DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE FOR WEEKEND/AFTER HOURS EMERGENCY CARE!!!! They'll keep your pet for hours of observation, but when the time comes to take action, they do not have the staffing.
My dog Prunella was brought in late Saturday evening after we suspected she had swallowed a foreign object. I had called the Vet Center after Prunella threw up and had blood in her vomit. Initially, phone conversations with the vet on call ended with the recommendation that we wait to bring Prunella in until Sunday morning. As she continued to vomit blood, I expressed interest in Prunella receiving immediate attention. The male doctor on-call on Saturday night seemed to feel as though Prunella’s condition was non-threatening and that he wished to give her an x-ray and keep her overnight to “ease our mind.” And honestly, he just gave us the impression that he was irritated to have his Saturday night interrupted. However, in the morning Dr. Lewis, informed us that if Prunella had an obstruction and needed to have surgery that the Westside Vet Center could not help her until Monday. She then referred us to Blue Pearl. Because Prunella required immediate attention, I wish we would’ve received this bit of information on Saturday evening. We could have saved a great deal of time, money, and grief if we were initially referred to Blue Pearl. Though I understand it is not ideal for patients to come to the Vet Center during the evening, we were under the assumption that center would be available to provide Prunella with the care she needed. Not until after Prunella stayed overnight at the Vet Center and received $1,200 worth of observation did we receive the notification that the Vet Center did not have the proper weekend staffing to meet Prunella’s needs. The only follow-up we have received post-operation was from Rubin at the reception desk who first asked how things went at Blue Pearl and then said we “more importantly” needed to discuss how the balance of our bill would be paid. As a first time dog owner, I know that I may be naïve to what should be the proper procedure for pet health care; however, I think that the staff available on Saturday was monetarily irresponsible. $1,200 is a high price to pay for wasted time, little prognosis, and a referral to another veterinary clinic where we should have taken her in the first place. This whole interaction has really made me question whether we shall continue brining our pets to your facility. After sending in a complaint, we were told that management would be calling us to discuss what happened. We followed up again and were told the same thing. We have yet to be contacted by management here. We have, though, received a bill in the mail. Horrible service, excuses, and broken promises of being contacted by management. Is this really the way to run a business supposedly centered on the well-being of our pets?
Westside Veterinary Center is a truly professional, warm and friendly place. They came highly recommended by friends and neighbors. We have been bringing our dog there since she was a puppy (she's now 6), and have had the best of care from vets and techs alike.
You can expect caring, informed professionals who will take time with you to discuss your pet's particular needs. Inquiries are addressed immediately and more detailed phone calls are returned promptly. The staff, vet and clerical, remember you and your pet and your needs. I particularly appreciate the understanding that every animal has different needs and a unique personality. Westside Vet is patient with your pet (and you) and will support the choices you make for your pet. You will never be pressured to pursue options that your pet doesn't need or that you aren't comfortable with. You always have choices. I am an informed patient in my own healthcare and ask a lot of questions -- I do the same for my pet. I've often asked questions about current debates in pet wellness, and the responses I've received are always knowledgeable, broad-minded (from alternative to conventional medicine), and sensitive.
We see Dr. Karen Cantor, who embodies all the qualities I've described here. She has been a joy to work with, especially since I was a first-time dog-person. Patient and kind, with good advice, Dr. Cantor is never put off by my thoroughness and proactive concern for my dog's well-being.
If you choose Westside Vet Center, you'll appreciate the staff there and the entire experience. You'll also be glad that there's someone on call overnight if you have a concern and need some reassurance or guidance, or to deal with an emergency. I highly recommend Westside Vet Center.
I only gave them five stars because there isn't an option to give them more. The folks at Westside Veterinary genuinely seem to love animals, and it shows in their work. I hope that your pet has nothing but the best of health. If you do need a vet, though; I hope you love your pet enough to bring him / her to Westside Veterinary.
like it – I took my dog in today and was relieved to be able to arrive at 7pm and still be charged for a normal visit. One of the biggest issues I have with clinics are their hours. Every person we interacted with at Westside was fabulous, including all of the front office staff and the doctor herself who was extremely thorough and patient. The bill was normal and there were no weird/unexpected charges. I will definitely bring him there again.
great job – Lou did a stellar job on my tattoo and it went very smoothly. The design was great and I am really satisified with my new tat!
westside veterinary – My dog is a golden retriever named Bailey 5 years old and West side have saved him twice. Shepard was hit and treated him with the most care in the world. I felt my dog was really love here. The doctor, nurses and technicians where on top of everything. They are true professionals.
Nice – Westside is a fantastic Veterinary Hospital, the staff really is compassionate about the animals and I never seem to have any problems when my dog needs to come here. I definietly trust them with Lucy!
nice job – We originally started taking our dog here four years ago because of the convenient weekend hours, but after the attention and care that we have received, I wouldn't think of taking him any place else. Ringo has gotten into some strange situations, he has eaten our bed, our couch cushion and most recently a bra strap. Not to mention all of the instances of kennel cough and giardia we've endured! Each time an incident occurs, the vets and nurses here have been professional, caring and most importantly accurate. Plus, Ringo loves going there. My husband, Ringo and I all highly recommend the Westside Veterinary Center.
Great service.... – My puppy started puking uncontrollably and Westside Vet was able to see him within a HALF HOUR. For alot of us, our pets are family, so being able to get him taken care of ASAP was absolutely amazing.
Good job – Wonderful hospital. They really care about the patients and clients and are giving the best quality medicine. I am surprised to see any negative reviews. This hospital is available 24 hours day 7 day a week. They have been there for the community for over 25 years.
