Reviews for Exhale Center For Sacred Movement

This place boasts some of the best Yoga teachers in LA that even taught a few classes in my own teacher training. They even dealt with my super UN-flexible muscles without judgement and offered perfect adjustments.

Great classes – The spray tanning place sent me here to take a class with a friend of theirs. The main teacher (think her name is Annie) and her assistant teacher were very professional, knowledgable and patient with helping me get into some positions I had a hard time with. I really like how I felt after. I was proud of myself for making it through my first yoga class.

I will go back again soon.

Favorite Yoga Teacher Ever!! – I hesitate to write this review because Brian's classes aren't crowded, yet.

I came to Exhale to try classes with the teachers I heard about and had done their DVDs.

Reality: too crowded, no personal touch, competitive and in all honesty, the big names are the reason to stay away from Exhale. There is one teacher who is such a ridiculous joke that I couldn't help but wondering what everyone was one, the class was sooooooo bad and everyone sat there basking in his chubby, lazy, self important glow. Doing the same stretch for an hour!!! Worst class ever bsides the stupid Yoga and U2 nonsense I tried one evening. (Some yoga practitioners truly need to retire.)

Then I tried Brian's Forrest yoga class and was hooked from day 1.I experienced healing and transformation on such a deep level that I've been raving to all my friends.

Brian is so intuitive, you know you are in good hand because you are working with a gifted healer.

Within 6 months of regular Forrest yoga and I had a strong, lovely body that I was proud of.

I love Brian's classes and he is the only reason I still go three times a week.

When Brian is out of town I attend Brad and Micheline's classes. They are both excellent teachers and lovely people. However no other class can compare to Brian's.

The only drawback is that Brian only teachers 3 days a week. I would love to attend class 5 days a week with him!!

All looks, no substance! – I too took a Yoga Teacher Training at Exhale and found the whole experience frustrating and lacked any real substance. All the people who conduct YTT here have worked to make a name for themselves. These "Yoga Stars" seem to think being in their mere presence is enough to take the fees they charges. Heaven forbid you actually ask a question that conflicts with something they have done or said and be prepared to be made the one at fault. I used to be a member at this studio but cancelled my membership due to the way the studio is fun and the sense of real hypocrisy that prevails. All the great teachers mentioned above all teach at other private studios and I would find them elsewhere. None of the so called famous teachers here, with the exception of Seane Corn, offered anything beyond their own limited sense of the way they view the world. Most of their classes are like "Simon Says" as there are so many crammed in the room you are lucky not to get kicked in the face. The vibe here just odd, the studios is owned by a big corp, all the employees are drones, everyone who goes there has the $300. yoga outfit on trying to look as eco-chic as possible, they listen with rapt attention to the "Yoga Stars" but you would be hard pressed to actually feel any real warmth or Sangha here.

Intensive Teacher Training with Shiva Rea – Shiva?s Yoga Shakti DVD is one that I?ve enjoyed for years. So when I found out I could do an intensive teacher training with Shiva, I signed up. Bad choice.

Exhale was filled to capacity elevating the daily room temperature to upwards of 95 degrees. AC was forbidden. I was told after my third day of headaches to get electrolytes to add to my water, which did help, but I did not appreciate being crammed into a room with no air, people sweating on me, and growing a new appreciation for claustrophobia during last summer?s heat wave.

When we were not crammed into the sweatbox, we worked outside in the blistering sun in the public park nearby cheerfully dubbed ?The Grassy Knoll? to practice poses that were never explained to us save for the best part of the workshop: the spiral bound books that included photos and helpful body cues for poses. The teacher training neither gives the students a basis for understanding body mechanics in poses nor offers augmentations for bodies with limited mobility. You DO get taught Shiva?s way of sequencing a class.

Communication is the worst part of how Shiva and her staff operate. I paid $108 for a mentor whose duty it is to check in with me; this has yet to happen in spite of my making several attempts and we?re now going on 8 months. The education coordinator takes over a month to get back to me regarding anything. An example, I submitted my final test a month ago, I have not received my certification of completion nor feedback. Shiva emailed me in February to ask if she could phone me, I affirmed and have yet to receive a phone call - it's April.

If you are looking for a comprehensive yoga teacher training program, enjoy personal attention, desire a foundation of body mechanics and understanding goals of poses, need room to grow in and out of the education setting, require clear support in your learning process, and expect efficient business practices ? do not go to Shiva Rea for your teacher training.

Awesome! – Want to be surrounded by good karma? Exhale is not only in Venice, but in Santa Monica too. The staff is super cool and friendly and ZEN. The healing waters are a great place to unwind after working your core or channeling your breath.

User review by lisa_amille – The "soul" purpose of my tirst trip to LA was to take yoga classes with micheline berry and shiva rea. I also had the delightful pleasure of a couple classes with hala khouri and one with sean corn. All the yoga classes were devine. These teachers all seemed to honor the true creative and living essence of the poses; all taught poses in a natural flowing manner sprinkled with their personal truths, conveyed in an honest way that honored the feminine in all. The staff at Exhale couldn't have been more hospitable and kind. I recommend you treat anyone you love to a yoga class and/or a dip at the spa! Will definately be back! User review by sepavia – I was disappointed by my experience here. The classes have too many students and it is rare to get individual attention from instructors. The classes are on the expensive side, which makes the experience all the more frustrating.

Know your teacher – Classes at Sacred Movement are categoriezed as a level 1, 1/2, 2 etc. Teachers have very different styles, so call ahead.

Bring your own mat, rentals are only $1, but who wants to lay down on someone elses sweat?

In the afternoon classes, you're bound to see a west side celeb. Community classes are half price.
