Best pizza pie in SD – Excellent pizzas and subs. Definately the best in town. Delivery is always hot and fresh, way better than Bronx. Drivers are always kind and courteous. Great pizzas by the slice, huge selection during lunch, 2 slices and a soda for $6, very busy from 11:30 to 1:00 during lunch hour, but always manage to get in and out in a hurry. Always have good coupon prices, if you don't have a coupon just ask for current specials when orderring on the phone, they usually will hook you up with a good deal.
NOT New York Style, and NOT recommended – This is NOT "New York style pizza" by this adoptive New Yorker's definition, and not "one of the best in town" (as reviewed elsewhere here) by ANY true foodie's definition. The "crisp" crust was oversauced and soggy, the toppings franchise-average, the seasoning pedestrian.
I'd prefer franchise fare over this any day, especially since City Pizzeria's prices exceed typical franchise prices by about 15%(?!). The only good thing I have to say about this experience is that the delivery was quick (as it should be, at only 1/4 mile from my East Village high-rise).
Resident East Villagers and visitors, if you want REAL New York style stick with Pizza Station on Park between Broadway & C (in the SmartCorner complex, with entrances both directly on Park and via the City College station Trolley platform) despite its narrow menu and relatively restricted hours of operation. I know, I know...great pizza in a convenience store??? But improbable as it sounds, Pizza Station is the real thing: inexpensive, fast, consistently good-quality ingredients, as close to authentic New York style as I've yet found here on the Left Coast. And who knows what might happen if enough of us NY-pizza lovers beg Pizza Station to stay open later...
YUK YUK YUK! – Don't even think about eating the hot wings they serve here. They taste like they've been boiled with the skin on and then a rather watered down hot sauce is put on them and possibly stuck in a microwave. Limp and soggy. YUK! Certainly not worth the almost $8 price. If you can get the pizza in your mouth right out of the oven, it's okay. Walk a block and then eat your lunch, it generally taste undercooked, underspiced and cold.
Always Quality – The quality of the food was fantastic every time I ordered. The pizza and ingredients were always fresh. They always brought what I asked for, which is rare for a pizza delivery service. I wish I still lived nearby to get their pizza!
New York-style pizza and calzones in the heart of downtown San Diego. – In Short
Catering to city residents, tourists and office workers, this popular pizzeria offers a cozy dining area, friendly service and a choice of traditional and gourmet pizzas served by the slice or whole pie. A variety of salads are available individually or as combos with pizza slices, and the affordable menu also includes hearty sandwiches and calzones. The house specialty is the chicken ranch pie featuring a thin, crispy crust topped with barbecued chicken, mozzarella and ranch dressing.
Great Pizza Great Service – I like to suport local business & this is a good one. Good pizza & sandwiches, too. Nice people, good delivery service & VERY good pizza!! Strongly recommended
Best delivery downtown – Pizza hut and dominos have good coupons and the cheapest prices, but I would always rather support the local businesses than the larger chains. That's why I order from City pizzeria often. It's a bit more expensive, but they deliver right to my door downtown, and are always pleasant, on time, and gracious for the business. The pizza's decent, too.
