Neighborhoods: Marina Del Rey, West LA, Marina Del Ray
What an EXPENSIVE Disappointment! – Don't try to make sense of anything here. If you do, you will make yourself crazy. Example: My neighbors had a door mat and a door decoration up (for 2 years). I decided, what the heck, I'll put mine out, too. Within a week I had a note telling me I was violating the lease, that my items needed to be taken down immediately, blah blah blah...so I take my things down--here we are a year later---neighbor still has her things out. No notes for her. Same with balcony items: I had a small section of bamboo outside-BAM-note on my door. My neighbors? Bird feeders, curtains, piles with rubbermaid bins, clothing rack-DOG BARKING INCESSANTLY. That's TOTALLY ok, apparently. Items inside the apartment are old and worn out. Chipped, um EVERYTHING. Noise is constant and the disgusting smell of cigarette smoke would make a hard-core chain smoker sick. Actually wish I would have read YELP! prior to moving in here.
A Little Paradise in the City – Mariners Village is a little hidewaway from the concrete jungle. There is wonderful landscaping, with different plants around every corner. There are decks where you can watch the boats from the Marina go by, pools throughout the premises, a waterfall, clubhouse and tennis courts. The maintenance crew takes good care of the grounds and promptly fix whatever needs doing in the apartment.
WORST PLACE I"VE EVER BEEN – This place SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SHITTY AND OUTDATED APPARTMENTS, NO MAINTENANCE. FORGET ABOUT YOUR DEPOSITS !! When you move out, they will charge you for everything, even after 2 years living at the place you will be charged for;
1. repainting walls 400
2. carpet cleaning 100
3 appartment cleaning 180
plus anything else they may not like
Also this suckers have a habit of fixing parking lots and changing pipes etc, well, when your car is in their way they just tow it FROM YOUR PARKING SPOT YOU ARE PAYING FOR !!! and then you have to pay 100$ per day to a towing company. THIS IS INSANE !!!!!!!
Stay Away – The grounds and location are nice, but the apartment's themselves are nothing special. The plumbing in the buildings is old, and horrible. Drains get clogged all the time. Cell phone signal is really bad in that area. The laundry room is constantly breaking down. There is quite a bit of theft. The buildings are infested with termites and silver fish.
They will raise your rent every year, usually $75 to $100 a year.
There is very limited parking. Expect to be fighting for parking spots.
They've signed a deal where you are forced to pay at least $75 a month for their internet and cable service. (They get a kick back from the service provider) - You can get service elsewhere, but you still have to pay this amount.
Their policies are restrictive. The staff has improved over the years, but it's hard to value them when your rent increases every year, you're locked into their cable/internet services. You can't do your laundry because the machine's are broken for the forth time this week. Squirrels run amuck eating everything on your deck and chewing through your screen door. Your bike was stolen, your car broken into. Termites fall from the celling and silver fish crawl on your bed.
The location is nice, but that's it. I highly recommend that prospective tenants stay away.
Gorgeous apts – We have lived in this complex for 7 years. It is a great place to live. The grounds are fabulous, the amenities bountiful. Yes, it is older but that is the charm. Maybe the people with black mold should keep an eye on things. They are constantly painting, fixing and updating things. The location on the Silver Strand is fabulous. The 4th of July fireworks barge parks right in front on the channel. If you are an overstressed, ego driven,X gen, then this place is NOT for you.
This apt. offers a quiet, woodsy lifestyle found in very few complexes in the LA area.
BEWARE THIS PLACE IS TOXIC – SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE this place is horrible the place is rotten and so is the staff, don't be fooled, we had black mold in our bedroom and the staff was useless and rude. they made us feel like we were bothering them when we confronted them about it then they made us wait a week before doing anything about it, it was not fixed properly so it came back they took no fault, also this place is infested with rats, roaches, termites and lazy employees I HATE THIS PLACE
Great Views & Location, High cost, no parking & lots of pest problems. – Mariners Village is located at the end of the Marina Del Rey Pier. It is a beautiful location and the apartment complex grounds are quite lovely with ponds and koi fish and lots of trees.
Unfortunately Mariners Village has horrendous parking. It is not helped by the unfriendly residence service staff. If you like paying lots of money (2k and above) to not have parking then this place is for you. Don't count on having friends or family over either, as they won't have a parking spot and both of you will need to walk 10 to 15 minutes.
Mariners Village also has a savvier problem with pests of all sorts. Silverfish are a huge problem, termites are everywhere, and spiders & squirrels are also quite common. Their maintenance staff is quite quick and will come to help, but often does not remove the problem. Get used to living with a large amount of insects crawling along your floors and walls! And don't expect the residence service staff to care or offer any sort of compensation. This is common they say, and you should just except it.
The buildings are old, which means that the pipes are bad. You either get little to no water pressure, or you get plenty but can't use it as the drain pipes are so clogged that the water backs up.
The apartments are small for the cost.
Did I mention that the parking is horrible!
Check out the Mariners Village Community forum at marinersvillagecommunity dotcom where you can read the various rants and problems by residents there.
Or you can also read the blog of a Mariners Village resident at marinersvillage.blogspot dotcom for another's personal opinion of the complex.
Like I said, the location, views, and grounds are killer. The management, staff, pests, and parking are horrible. If they fix the parking, listen & respect their residents, and solve some of their other problems this will be a good place to stay, but until then, spend your money elsewhere.
