this place does have very good food but the service does horrible they're both very ignorant people especially the man so so rude
Best Chinese Food – I've been going to this Chinese take out for the past 2 years. The lady was very helpful and nice every time i have a question for her. This is the best chinese food in PennHills. Their general tso's chicken is the best i ever had. Very reasonable price too with a lot of food!
NASTY MANAGER – I use to order food from here all the time & we spend about 28- 30 $ Lately every time i call the lady is just NASTY & DISRESPECTFUL SO I STOPPED ORDERING FOOD FROM THERE FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHES. tODAY MY DAUGHTER ASK FOR CHINESE SO I CALL START PLACING MY ORDER ASK THE LADY IF THEY SOLD GARLIC CHICKEN SHE TELLS ME WE SELL WHATS ALL ON THE MENU I SAY TO HER I DONT HAVE YOUR MENU, HOWEVER I AM ASKING A QUESTION IF YOU SELL THIS. SHE GETS SMART TELLS ME DONT ORDER THEN. I SAY TO HER WHY ARE YOU SO NASTY & UNPROFESSIONAL .SHE HANGS UP ON ME. NO NEED TO CALL HER BACK BECAUSE SHE A VERY RUDE
INDIVIDUAL. I WONT EVER ORDER THERE AGAIN. WHENEVER ANYONE ASK I WILL TELL THEM NOT TO GO THERE.
POOR SERVICE OK FOOD – i AM WRITING TO GIVE YOU MY TAKE ON A PLACE THAT MY WIFE AND I WERE ORDERING FROM FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS IN THE PENN HILLS AREA. WE HAD MOVED FROM THE BLOOMFIELD AREA SIX YEARS AGO. NOTICED THE RESTAURANT AND MY CHILDREN WANTED CHINESE. WE ORDERED FROM THEM ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS. SOMETIMES EVERY WEEK ABOUT $26 DOLLARS WORTH OF STUFF TO BE DELIVERED. WELL FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THE SERVICE HAS BEEN SLACKING. BEFORE I COULD CALL AND THEY KNEW MY ORDER. I CALL TODAY 2/1 AND ATTEMPTED TO PLACE AN ORDER. I ASKED THE ORDER TAKER HOW COME I ALWAYS ORDER OVER TWENTY DOLLARS WORTH OF STUFF. WHY DO I NOT GET THE FREE ROLL THAT THEY HAVE COUPON FOR. SHE SAY COUPON EXPIRED. I SAY I KNOW AND WHY DO YOU NOT SEND ME A CURRENT COUPON WITH MY ORDER TODAY. SHE SAYS WE HAVE NO CURRENT COUPON IT IS PART OF MENU. I TELL HERE WELL JUST GIVE ME THE ORDER LESS THE SHRIMP ROLL. SHE GETS AN ATTITUDE AND TELL ME DO NOT ORDER FROM THERE. I ASKED HER TO LET ME SPEAK TO OWNER OR MANAGER SHE SAYS SHE IS MANAGER THEN HANGS UP ON ME LIKE A CHILD. i CALL BACK TO SPEAK TO MANAGER. THEY DO NOT ANSWER DUE TO CALLER ID. PICK UP AND HANG UP ON ME AGAIN. I CALL FROM ANOTHER LANDLINE IN MY HOME AND THEY ANSWER. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO MANAGER OR OWNER. AND THE IGNORANT WOMAN SAID DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE WHICH I DID NOT AND IF I AM SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO ORDER FROM HERE. I WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE AND I KNOW THE DRIVER IS GOING TO MISS THE $5 DOLLAR TIP I ALWAYS GAVE HIM FOR HIS RUSH DELIVERIES. CHILDREN LOVES CHINESE FOOD. NEED TO FIND NEW ONE IN PENN HILLS AREA
Poor Service & Awful Food – Having just moved to the Penn Hills area, and having lived in both San Francisco and one block from China Town in Philadelphia I was worried that I would spend weeks - or longer - searching for a good, not spectacular, but good Chinese Take-Out restaurant near my new home. I looked at the reviews ans the #1 Chinese Restaurant got some really great ones. I MUST assure you that they were eirther written by the owner, or someone who has never eaten decent Chinese food. The food was awful and the service was worse. These people do not deserve to call themselves number one anything.
Best Chicken and Broccoli EVER! – I love this place. They are so polite and the food is wonderful. When I call, the lady recognizes me and knows my order. Everything I have tried has been great! I'm lucky to live as close as I do and they deliver!!!
Yep, pretty much number one! – Since moving to Pittsburgh from the West Coast, I've had a big issue trying to find good Chinese food. Luckily, when I moved to Penn Hills, I ran across No 1 Chinese Kitchen. Problem solved!
Not only do they make really good chicken, pork and beef dishes (their sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken are awesome!), but I've found the employees there to be super helpful. I'm not a big fan of vegetables and their fried rice dishes are loaded with them. On a lark, I asked if I could get their fried rice without vegetables and they're able to do it. Which tells me that...
A. They don't just have a big vat of fried rice sitting around, they cook to order.
B. They're not jerks.
Best thing of all is that they deliver and ordering over the phone is no pain as the counter people speak very good English. Finding this place helped solve a big issue I had with this city.
Best take-out!!!! – No. 1 Chinese really IS #1! The food is always great, the service is always prompt and friendly, and the prices are very affordable.
I wanted to say that the other review is completely unfair and rude. This person overheard the husband and wife arguing and actually mentioned the specifics on the internet... HOW DARE THEY!!! How would that reviewer like it if their "dirty laundry" was posted on the internet????
Anyways, I highly recommend No. 1 Chinese...... AWESOME!!! :-)
ps.... the General Tso's and Egg rolls are the BEST!!!!!!
Good food, Nasty Guy Running the Place – The food here was comparable to some of the decent sit down Chinese places in Pittsburgh. The restaurant has three small tables where you can eat your food if you so desire. However, it is geared more toward take out. I ordered Szechuan Chicken and my daughter ordered General Tso's Chicken. The lady who took our order was lovely. Her two young daughters were also present in the restaurant, and they were running around a little bit--as toddlers do. While somewhat distracting, they weren't horribly behaved.
As my daughter and I sat there eating, the male employee (who I am assuming was the lady's husband) began yelling at the female employee about the little girls. He told her to get the kids under control and that she was worthless. He was yelling that she had spent 3 hours on snow peas and had gotten nothing done. It calmed down again and then the lady gathered her children a short time later. She must have walked back into the kitchen area to get something for the girls to eat because the man suddenly started screaming at her again. He was yelling, "All you feed them is noodles. That's not real food. And whole milk! Are you a mother? Are you a mother? Are you a mother? Answer me!"
He yelled, "You're not a very good one!"
Had my daughter not have been with me, I would have interceded on that woman's behalf. I probably would have gotten kicked out. I did tell the woman that her kids were beautiful and that she needed to unload her old man. The poor thing started crying as she left. One thing I know is that no plate of Szechuan Chicken is worth supporting an abusive owner/ chef/ employer/ spouse/ whatever. Therefore, I will not be returning to No. 1 Chinese.
One last note: The restroom was too dirty to use and the kitchen had a bunch of ribs sitting on top of a bucket. I'm glad I had the chicken and not the pork!
