Top sushi restaurant in Los Angeles County – After trying over 500 sushi restaurants in LA, I finally found my favorite spot. It's a B- location with A+ quality food. You pay for the fish and not the rent. Service is excellent, whether seated at the bar or at a table with a larger party. One recommendation: do not use the commercial-grade soy sauce with the red or green lids; Chef Saito imports different soy sauces (some aged 10+ years) from around the world, and uses specific sauces to pair with different types of fish, always resulting in a mouth watering combination.

Very Good & Creative Fish Specials – My husband & I discovered this place a year ago and have gone several times since. The fish is fresh & they always have unique fish to try on special, Flying Fish, Needle Fish, etc. It's somewhat expensive but, good Sushi always is expensive!

If you're tired of the wait or crowds at Katsuya, try 4 on 6 which is right across the street! Don't get me wrong, we love Katsuya but, its good to have variety.

To disagree with the reviewer that said their food was very good, then gave them one star....We have always been treated very warmly and kindly by all the personnel at this restaurant & we're not "their kind". The Chef smiles and greets us when we enter. We usually sit at a table & several staff members come over and attend to us...no attitude whatsoever. I think there may be an attitude problem with a reviewer that would give a restaurant one star after saying their food was very good.

Amazing! – Just went there for New Year's Eve and had some of the best sushi I've ever had in LA. So fresh! And delicious combinations. A little expensive, but worth it. And better to go in a group so you can try more!

Great Food! Terrible Service favors japanese clients – My wife and I have gone to this little hole in the wall for over a year, The food is very good. Very expensive! But still a nice treat once in a while. The last 3 times we have been I have noticed a unique service to the Japanese clients that are dining there. We sat next to a Japanese couple that had received there food for about 10 minutes before the owner even acknowledged us. Than once the order was taken it took another 10-15 before we received it. (there were only about 10 people in the restaurant as well) after we got our food I ordered another roll that took 10 + minutes to get but before i got it another Japanese man walked in sat down and received prompt service,Not sure whats up with the owner, but defiantly something going on here. I have noticed a huge ATTITUDE problem with the owner. he never smiles never says hello. ONLY to his own KIND! Certifiably not worth the money......if the service and attitude suck. To bad!

Best sushi I've ever had – The only reason one would say they didn't enjoy 4 on 6 is if they must drench their sushi in wasabi, mayo, soy, and other heavy sauce's in order to eat it. Saito knows how to choose the freshest fish and serve it to you with little accents of flavor in order to preserve the actual taste of it. To me it is like a great steak served medium rare, if you drench it in sauce you've ruined it...

Pure Unadulterated Sushi Bliss – Chef Saito is the personable, quiet master behind this small traditional sushi spot where they focus on high quality fish accentuated by subtle Japanese flavors. They avoid the California style, lots of chopped and mixed with mayo mixes of two or three kinds of fish, fried in crunchy batter, with eal sauce on top type of appetizery sushi. (Chef Saito laughed at my description of American sushi). The sushi comes prepared as a precise cut over warm rice with a dash of yuzu paste, ponzu sauce, ground sea salt, lemon, shizo leaf, pickled nori, or a hint of wasabi, as appropriate.

Chef Saito often serves his fare with a friendly instruction: no soy sauce or wasabi. I noticed that he stopped serving wasabi with the fresh ginger he gives to his patrons. He said "You don't need it. . . sometimes wasabi is ok, but most people abuse the sushi." He is all about pure sushi accentuated with fresh, subtle flavors, but with reserve.

I order almost exclusively off the daily specials menu. When they have Keiji, you are in for a treat. The melt in your mouth baby salmon are not at all fishy, and have the fattiness of toro. The toro and live scallop, also amazing, are prepared with respect for the ingredients as well. There are always a variety of mackerals and snappers too. The rock shrimp tempura and spicy tuna biscotti (fried rice cake with thin jalepeno slices) are the highlights of the kitchen-prepared choices.

The name refers to a certain meter in jazz music, which the 4 on 6 features on Sunday nights. Saito is proud of the name. He pointed out to me that "4 on 6" is an expressive, while most other exclusive sushi restaurants take the chef's name. The jazz is great, but gets loud. You will absolutely enjoy the music, but it does make conversation difficult.

4 on 6 is "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey." My best advice is that if you are headed to Encino for sushi, ignore Katsu-Ya across the street, and find the place behind Tony Roma's.

One of the BEST in LA – Half of my family is from Japan, and my parents are hard-core foodies, so I literally grew up eating authentic Tokyo-style sushi. I was born and raised in California, so I have tried many different sushi restaurants and I came to this conclusion... This place serves one of the best sushi in LA, hands down. Sure, Nobu and Sushi Roku is fabulous for people who love the hip crowd. But located in a back of a strip mall in Encino, 4 on 6 is an absolute gem, such a great whole in wall. If you want to enjoy delicious sushi made with the freshest ingredients in a chilled out atmoshere (they play live jazz on certain days), you will not be let down. Chef Saito is always at his best w/ what he does, everything he serves is spectacular, and the servers are extremely friendly and attentive. So just sit back, relax, and enjoy some great Tokyo-style sushi with half the Tokyo-style price tag.

Best Experience – Achtung! Kawaii overdose follows!

First of all, what can I say? This is a little sushi bar in the back of a strip mall, shared with the likes of Office Depot and Tony Roma's. The one thing I could not believe is that this place is A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH!!!!

My wife and I decided to try this place out because it got 5 out of 6 excellent reviews on Citysearch. Boy, am I glad we followed our instincts on this! This place rocked... From the ever present Jazz Music in the background, to the warm, friendly service, to the melt-in-your-mouth sushi, the overall experience was, for lack of a better term, unparalleled. I mean, Chef Saito had Charlie Hunter playing. Jun was paying close attention to our evening's enjoyment. We spent almost two hours in this little sushi joint, and thourougly enjoyed every minute of it; Enough to come home and write this review, post-saki!!!

The one review that states "worst sushi ever" is so far from the truth, we have no idea what that person is talking about! Every bite was filled with deliciousness! Even the Bonito, a very bloody Tuna species, imported from Japan was to die for!!!

You NEED to try this place!!!!

Sushi At It's FINEST – I have been coming to 4 ON 6 for 5 years now . The quality of fish is exquisite. Chef Saito is a sushi master and anyone who has interest in Sushi MUST try this place. I walk in feeling at home, I am treated like a king and the taste ALL the fish is just perfection. Anything you order will be Great, ranging from the Uni all the way to a simple California roll, which is made with real crab. Please disregard the review written two below, as the person who wrote it must be mental or INSANE!!! The Albacore is the best tasting albacore I have tried ANYWHERE...Even better then Nobu in NY, Matsuhisa, Sushi Gen in Downtown LA, or R-23. 4 ON 6 is the best most authentic sushi restaurant outside of Tokyo without having to pay $2000 for the flight.
