I recently went to Preston Animal Hospital to get my 55 lb. dog groomed. First I got an estimate over the phone, and I was told around $60. They recommended bringing my dog in to meet Cindy to get a more accurate quote in person. So I brought my dog in and Cindy told me that it would cost $60. I made my appointment for two weeks later. When I came to pick up my dog she charged me $70. I asked her if she had problems with matting or my dog wasn’t behaving. She told me no. I asked her why the price was $10 higher than what she quoted me two weeks earlier. She told me that her competitors charged $75 so that was her price. She didn’t give me the price that she originally quoted me and couldn’t give me a good reason. My dog’s hair cut was OK and my dog seemed to be OK so I gave her a $10 tip and told her I wouldn’t be back. This is false advertisement. She told me that if I could bring her in every 6 weeks she would try to keep the price at $60. I don’t feel that this is right. The cut was only OK. She got her money, but I feel that others should be aware of this unprofessional practice. In talking to other dog owners at the dog park, I was told by other customers that she did the same to them. Hopefully I can help others to avoid the same frustration in the future.

Boarded my dog there one weekend, horrible experience. Called prior to weekend and asked all questions, was charged when I picked him up for things I was told I wouldn't be, etc. Asked for an exit bath. Picked dog up with whole mouth bloody. Was told he was terrified of hair dryer and 'punctured' his lip. And dog was dry.... So incredibly bloody. Took him home where the amount of blood ruined my jeans, an area rug, his bed, and spent an entire evening of bleaching everything. $186 for the weekend of boarding with doggie daycare and a bath only to have to deal with all of that. Plus my dog was the most upset I have ever seen him in 9 years when I picked him up. Emailed my concerns and disappointment to Preston and it has been 2 weeks and no response. AND on top of that his nails were not cut at all which was the main reason I wanted the bath, they talked me into the bath once I told them I would like his nails trimmed. HORRIBLE experience and will never take him there for boarding/grooming ever again.

Great Vets, very friendly – I've been coming to Preson for 4 years now, and have never had a problem. I used to live in Morrisville and was right down the street, but now live in Durham (40 minutes away) and I still go see Dr. Bauer. I don't drive 40 minutes for nothing! She knows both my doxies explicitly well, down to their exact personalities. I have always had excellent care when I bring my dogs in and am very satisfied. I could go to a closer vet, but why change a good thing?

For the people who complain about money, they will always complain. A $50 vet fee is nothing. And that only applies when the doctor examines the dog. Not every visit.

Yes, they are a little up there in cost, but hey, it's Cary, and you sometimes get what you pay for.

As far as grooming, unfortunately they are not the best groomers. But why go to a vet anyway for grooming?

If you're looking for EXCELLENT vet care from a very personable staff, take your dogs here!

1. VERY EXPENSIVE: they charge doctor visit fee for $50 everytime, and disposal fee for $2, and other fees for vac and test are almost doubled compared with other hospitals.

2. IRRESPONSIBLE DOCTOR CHECK: I went to preston hospital for my cats' vac. The doctor told me they did check cats and there is no flea..Two days after I came back from the hosptial I found fleas on my cats. .Even such a simple test, they can't get it done well. And I can't help thinking the fleas are from the hospital.. if this is true, you figure out their working environment yourself..

For God's Sake now I can't even believe what the claimed to check for my cats.

I give them thumb down down for the treatment.

Snooty, Poor Vet Care, Poor Customer Service, Poor Grooming...Poor all around! – I have taken my dog to this vet for both vet care and grooming. He's been seen by the vet once, and has been groomed 3 times. Each time, the grooming is poor, and too expensive, ($42 for a 10 pound dog). I've even tried taking in pictures of how I want him groomed, and they still can't get it right. It ends up looking choppy, and they often completely ignore your directions on how you want them groomed.

As far as the vet goes, I found them to be quite condescending. They ask you questions about the health and habits of the animal, and then won't actually listen to your response. Before we left, I was given this big presentation of all their dental supplies and asked which ones I would like to buy. I was also heavily persuaded to change his food to the brand they sold. I've been told by more than one vet that the brand he is currently on is best for him, since it is specific to his breed. I felt the whole thing just revolved around money.

My dog was groomed here this week, and after I got him home, I noticed that he did not want to open his right eye. I thought maybe they had gotten soap in it, so I irrigated it with saline. He was better the next day, but would only half open the eye. I called and they told me to bring him in. I asked if there would be a charge, and I was told that they weren't sure. NOT SURE???? He was perfectly fine and healthy when I took him in. When I got him home, he would only use one eye. HELLO! They caused whatever problem it was. I'll take him in, but I'm NOT going to pay!

In general, there are much better vets and groomers out there than what you will find at Preston. Beware.
