WHAT A JOKE!!! – Called for a party order for 20 people and said I gotta call some dude named Ashok and 303-506-0798...what a joke?? Its funny, when I go to this place I feel like I'm in India.... You'll get treated like you are in India, with an attitude, tone and get the monkey off your back concept. DO NOT GO THERE... I don't understand; why are indian businesses so rude? Are they depressed all the time or something???

Very very good food. Highly recommended. – I have been to many places in USA as my job is consulting and get to travel around quite a bit. I can tell you this place is really great. Food is probably one of the best Indian food you can find in USA. Quality of the food is always consistent. Highly recommended. Whether you want to just order an item from the menu or whether you want to try their buffet, you will not be disappointed. Very authentic Food. Good job and keep it up.

Downhill....going, that is - going, going, soon will be gone! (Part One of Two) – What can I say about my last couple of experiences. I thought I would give Masalaa another try and went to lunch yesterday with a friend. Walked into the restaurant. Was greeted by the manager/supervisor with a feeble attempt at a smile. Like the last time, we were not offered a menu, though all we wanted as a masala dosa. The manager insisted that the buffet would be the best choice, though we were not in the mood to eat a heavy meal. Dosa is included in the meal, he added. ANd this happened during a prior visit as well. We picked our own table and sat down. Water was not served, rather there were a couple of steel cups with a pitcher of water. So be prepared to pour your own water.

So we checked out the buffet line. Looked interesting. Large idlies that had dried out in the heat of the warmer that looked far from appetizing. A couple of vegetarian curries, biryani, plain rice, rasam sambar, fried bread (small bhatura triangles). The cold section looked unappetizing from the start. Masalaa - a word of adive, you don;t need to serve a salad if you DON'T KNOW how to. A bowl of a lettuce salad, looking sad and brown, a couple of chutneys, tamarind and mint chutneys, curd rice, and some king of kheer.

I did sample a little bit of everything. I will not say all the food was bad. The good items were the Potato 65, the rasam (hot and spicy), an onion masala curry, and a south indian style kootu with coconut. The others were average to below average. The veggie biryani was terrible, sambar was average, a couple of other veggies below average.

Now Masalaa has also changed their plates - they have moved to thalis without any cups. Now everytime you want a refill of an item, "you can take another plate", the manager said. So if I want just a refill of a curry, I have to take an extra plate, rather than serving myself a smaller portion in a cup.

Consistently Poor Service – Several negative experiences in a row - Quality of food has declined considerably. Several times, we were served food that wasn't warm enough. Managerial and serving staff were very unfriendly except for one short-statured South Indian gentleman who was quite nice. Several times, we were denied help with dividing up our food. We asked for aloo chat, and were given the filling for masaalaa dosa (essentially aloo sabzi). The Thursday night buffet seemed more like a collection of left-overs and stale food rather than a freshly cooked meal. We were still eating (around 9:50 p.m.!), and the lights in one area of the restaurant were switched off indicating that we had to leave. The overall attitude of the staff seemed to reflect that they were doing us a favor by serving us. I love South Indian food, but will probably just learn how to cook it instead of going back.

Never to Return – This restaurant was a let down. Let me preface my review by saying the food was good. Being from the southern region of India myself, I was very disappointed with the service that was offered. Upon entrance there was no greeting or direction as to where to go. My group was eventually escorted to a table and seated without menus and still no greeting. After waiting for several minutes, I ventured to the front in hopes of getting menus and pricing for the buffet. Needless to say, this was indicative of the rest of the experience. Servers came and picked up plates still being worked on without a word, requests for napkins were never fulfilled and even though two people in our group ordered from the menu no one came to check on the satisfaction of their selections. The food could not makeup for what the service and ambience lacked.

Authentic Indian Food and Awesome Service – This resturant is awesome. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Great value for money and their Bollywood song collection is great too. People nice and friendly. My kids love this place. Great Indo-chinese Items as well. Try it to believe it.

South Indian food is not very common in the U.S. Perhaps because it is vegetarian. It is it's own unique cuisine, and is well represented by Masalaa. If you are not familiar with it, you should give it a try.

Best South Indian Restaurant – This is one of the best South Indian Restaurants in the country that I have come across. Awesome food and very nominal price.
