Unfriendly and rude – The food portions vary greatly on takeouts, and when I brought this to their attention, I was immediately was given the "Nazi Soup" treatment by the guy that always wear the black top and bottom attire.

The entire staff seem too casual, unattentive, busy doing other personal/socializing stuff, while the customer endure their slow and unfriendly service.

great food, average service – Highly recommend the sugarcane shrimp hand rolls, and green papaya salad. I have always been satisfied and come home with lots of leftovers. On weekends I recommend early dinner (5-6 pm start) for best service and quick food.

Unsatisfied – To be perfectly honest, anyone will tell you that the best pho in Portland involves a journey to the East side. When I saw the setting and ambience that Pho Van had to offer, not too mention the closer proximity to home, I had to give it a shot.... Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The best quality in any cuisine is it's authenticity. Pho Van, in my opinion, represents a battle between the authentic and the "Americanized", with the victor being the latter.

The service end was prompt, however extremly crude. I will never go back for exactly that reason. Upon leaving our server took a look at the tip we left (which was right above the 20% standard) and rolled her eyes with a dissapointed huff. I'm sorry but her service did not even warrant a 10% tip, but if you've been to many Vietnamese restaurants then you know you're not exactly in for a social experience with your server. This is perfectly acceptable with me, I actually respect the privacy in a sense, however a lack of grattitude towards my grattitude can only be explained as disrespect.

As we left my girlfriend said goodbye to our server in a sincere tone, but all she received in return was a scowling "bye" from a girl younger than the two of us (26). Both of us have worked in the food industry in the past, hence we treat our servers as if our Granmothers were waiting on us; with utmost respect indeed.

Long story short: If you want some good pho in Beaverton, then go down the street to Jin Wa. But if you want good Vietnamese cuisine, stay away from Pho Van because you'll leave unsatisfied and disgruntled with your server.

Decent food but nasty service – I was a regular customer at this restaurant until recently when they cut the Chicken Curry's portion to nearly half of what I used to get as a takeout. And when I mentioned it one of the short waiter/server said that it's never that much, inferring that I'm not telling the truth. Instead of acknowledging it or explaining why the portion has been cut so drastically and the price has gone up, he answer was a terse accusation.

The food is not bad but the service could use a little more smile and friendliness, if not some truth!

Great Food, Great Service Period – My friend took me out to lunch at Pho Van for the first time. I had the #43 Honey Lemongrass Chicken and it was delicous. I enjoyed it so much that 3 days later I took my wife there and had the same thing. I was also impressed by the quick service that would constantly fill up my water glass.

Aficionados of Vietnamese noodle soup slurp it up in this smart outpost in the 'burbs. – In Short
Stationed in Beaverton's largest strip mall, this third incarnation of Portland's favorite pho shop is almost too slick for its locale. Lemon-colored walls are accented by the glow of modern red lanterns, Asian antiques and old family photos from Vietnam. Westerners and Asian families pack in for inexpensive, traditional fare and more upscale specials. Pho aficionados will appreciate the rich, anise-tinged beef noodle soup and buttery tenderloin wrapped in leaves.

Quality food, beautiful ambience, inexpensive – It's not often that a restaurant can cover all of the bases -- ambience, quality food, and all at a a very reasonable price. When my hubby and I walked into Pho Van the first time on Valentine's Day, we expected the prices to be at least $5 per entree higher than they are, but virtually everything on the menu is $10 or less. We soon discovered that the quality and flavor of the food matched the elegant decor.

My personal Beaverton favorite (thus far). Highly recommended.

What all Vietnamese wishes it was – I've had alot of very good rustic, every day Vietnamese, but I've always wondered what it would be like if someone stepped it up and took it to the next culinary level. Now I know. The first impression made by the dinning room matched the whole of the experience- sexy, modern colors intermingled with beautiful (expensive) Vietnamese antiquities. Wonderful, authentic wood carvings everywhere. Great artwork and fun photos of very happy, very old Vietnamese folks. I really enjoyed the chill, modern music in the backround, as opposed to the usually loud, whiney Veitnamese folk music found other places. the server was very concerned with our enjoyment of everything, and though he was clearly smoked with too many tables to handle, he managed to keep up with everything. Oh and the food- I loved my 5 spice duck soup! It was exactly what I was wishing it would be- deep rich, complex flavors, perfectly textured noodles, warming broth, and tender duck. Here's my one crank- the duck was served on the bone, and with no knife, just chopsticks (i'm glad they're autentic, but..) it was nearly impossible to eat. I hate food that takes work!

Pho = comfort food – Enough pho options to keep you happy, but lots else on the menu as well. I love the curry with chicken and yams. The only downside is that all the chicken dishes are with thigh meat (no breat or tenderloins depite the "chicken tenders" comment on the menu). Pho Van is great for dates or even a family dinner with the kids. It's always popular but hardly ever a wait.

Pretty darn good – I've been coming here since the restaurant opened, more than once a week, and have never gotten tired of the food. There's enough variety on the menu to satisfy a variety of appetites, and the quality of the ingredients is good. Being on a first-name basis with the servers doesn't hurt, but even if you aren't, they'll give you good service. Recommended.
