I can't stand this bar!!!!! – The service at this bar is terrible. The people who work there are the rudest people I've ever met! The scene there is "average" but nothing you can't get at any of the other Halsted bars--minus the attitude. On weekends they often charge an unusually high $10-15 cover (high by Chicago standards)... Everything they've tried doing is better done by another bar... Major skip it!
uptight isnt allright – i loved hydrate first few times i went i stood in line an hour and a half to get in last year at pride cool some of the bartenders are uptight jerks if u dont like ur job get a new one smiles are good and so is respect they work at a gay bar and think there gods NOT! i dont look like the blond hair six pack havin cute boys that everyone loves so i guess that why i was disrespected for asking for a couple more drinks after gettin one made music is hot most the time small dancefloor feels like a house party but the drinks are cheaper at house partys no space for good dancers just a good place to hump sweaty shirtless guys
KICK IT UP A NOTCH! – Hydrate is what it is! It's a place with friendly service, good drinks, and phenomenal dj's that are both local (Ralphi, DJeremy, Chris Eterno) and national/international (Thunderpuss, Frankie Knuckles, Susan Morabito). If you want to go look at cute guys and listen to kick-ass dj's spin, go to Hydrate!
Don't bother... – Highly overrated! In addition, if you drink Bud or any of their products you will have to go across the street. The music sucks and no real men seem to go there.
Don't be fooled by the crowd waiting to get in on the weekends. They will leave.
Go to Charlies or Little Jims. LJ's has no cover.
Cheerful gay bar by day, pumping dance club by night, this Boys Town hangout keeps pretty boys busy till dawn. – The Scene
Stylish 20-somethings fill this energetic three-room club, a popular late-night dance destination for the Halsted Street set. The space has undergone an extreme makeover since its dark, windowless days as Manhole: Walls are now splashy shades of aquamarine (in the front bar) and fire-engine red (in the more open middle bar area), and front and side garage-door windows open to the street on warm days. Club music thumps, and dance videos give posing patrons something to look at. The crowd is mixed early, but after midnight it's boys, boys, boys.
Hydrate has something going on every night of the week, from dollar drinks to drag shows, exotic dancers and a "gay lotto" with money giveaways. The main attraction is on the dance floor, though, where mist machines keep weekend revelers cool while stand-out DJs like Ralphi Rosario, Teri Bristol and Grammy-winner Frankie Knuckles spin tunes into the wee hours.
Hydrate – You would think this was a New York bar, it`s not.
At least if you stand in line at a New York bar for more than 30mins, there would be people in the bar. Why on earth would you just let three people in the bar at a time. Are they afraid that bartenders would be overwhelmed by the 8 people in line outside.
I thought it was funny that the two guys in front of me and my friends walked into the bar, and walked outside and got in line again. I guess the are trying to make it look busier than it is.
Then you would think for being the first people in the bar you would get a could beer. I guess I was wrong again. Being there bad me wish I was at home watching the paint dry.
