Trying to be something it's not – There are cities in which a club such as Escape belongs--New York, London, Paris. Unfortunately, Minneapolis is not one of those cities. In an effort to act like a club that belongs in a swankier city, Escape just becomes a parody of itself. The clientele are laughable, and the staff and management take themselves far too seriously.
To enjoy a slice of genuine Minneapolis nightlife, head to the Block E bars with no cover and less pretension. Better yet, don't bother with Block E at all!
Good Thursdays – I hear the weekends are pretty dead, so head there Thursday if you like a good crowd and very, very inexpensive cover (FREE) and drinks ($1 wells). Love the hip-hop beats, and should I mention again, super cheap drinks? If you don't like a mixed crowd (all race/ethnicity), then go somewhere else, but if you don't care and just wanna have a good time, Escape is the place for Thursday nights.
We were NOT impressed! – We were not impressed! Staff was rude and not helpful in any way! We came to have fun and spend some money, but by the service we received I don't think they wanted us there or our money. Bathrooms were filthy, music was boring and the dance floor was sticky with broken glass in every area. Most "upscale" nightclubs that I've been to don't allow people on the dance floor with drinks.
Never will visit again!!!
High End – I always enjoyed going to Escape, but when I tried to reserve a VIP section I ran into problems over and over again. I was told a different price and policy each time I called. I was offered a deal after I explained my situation to the management. The VIP section in the bar is the only place one can really function on a Friday night without feeling like they don't have room to breathe. But, the music is great.
great music – good, love the dance floor and selection on menu. Great parking and location. Service was great also. I would go back again and again.
A sleek, chic nightspot ups the glam factor at Minneapolis' Block E. – In Short
Shimmering lights fade from amber to yellow to deep gold, bathing the crowd in a warm glow. Polished woodwork, sumptuous leather furniture and a sultry global soundtrack complete the club's upscale look. A steep cover charge weeds out the younger crowd. The Twin Cities' most beautiful congregate here, chatting over cocktails in the glittering, conversation-friendly lounge overlooking the skyline before the infectious deep house, hip-hop and trance beats bring them onto the dance floor.
worse birthday VIP ever – made reservation for VIP 1mth in advance for my big day at this place. I was very excited at how they sold it to me over the phone. I mean the price was steep but what they promised made up for it. Bottom line when I got there my party section was not reserved or decorated as promised. In fact they couldn't even remember that I had one reserved even though I called the night before to confirm it. Okay everything was a go right, well wrong. everything was total disappointment. I advise to never book a party at this place. I didn't have my party setup until after I got there (I"m glad I showed up 1hr before my guest) the cake didnt even have my name on it and I had to ask for a b-day shot out from the DJ my self (how fun). not to mentioned that they had my funds tied up for 10business days after I kept calling them to tell them I have a hold on my debitcard even though the price of my party was already deducted. not by surprise no one never returned my calls. after 4 tries I said forget it. dont get me wrong the money finally came off but this was the worse birthday ever and the most I have ever paid. The music was fair, the atomosphere was boring and the waitresses was not friendly. Advise keep the money and Just go and have an okay time.
Wonderful environment, weak music – While visiting Minneapolis this establishment was recommended by a DJ friend. The environment was great but smaller than we expected. Some of the specials advertised on their web page were not offered the night we visited. However, the cover was less than we expected. The bartenders and waitresses were fabulous, very friendly and helpful. However, what proved to be the biggest dissapointment was the music. The first hour was a good mix but around 11pm the DJ started a set of almost pure rap or rap based tunes which continued uninterrupted. Many tunes were undanceable much to the annoyance of my date. By 1230am we could no longer endure the monolithic rap tunes and had to escape. It would have been tolerable if there had been some variety, but the musical transitions for which we were waiting never happened.
Not my favorite. – I don't like being a snob but I paid the steep cover to get in and hated the clientele. Space was alright but...I felt like I had left Minneapolis and was in Asia somewhere. Went into VIP which was definitely better. Much better people and a great female bartender. My plastic was at home. Had my visa checkcard; which they don't take. Alright time if you want to spend One Night in Bangkok.
1st night exploring downtown – Bouncer at 1st Ave told me to check out Escape, it was very intense and noticed a heavy amount of fine Asian girls. A lot of people on "E." Made it more interesting. Don't have to be young, but you must be trendy, and there is a mild dress code, jus dont look like a bum.
